Okay, here's the deal... We.. the wonderful US of A are going through a major economic struggle so here's what I think. If you have a job, shouldn't you be loving the heck out of it considering that you are blessed to have one? Well, to me is seems like people are doing the total opposite, lately. Everywhere I go people are in a HORRIBLE mood and they don't even care to smile of have any type of proper customer service skills. So I say let them go home and let those who REALLY and TRULY want to work take over!!! :)

I agree that we should be happy and thankfull to have a job in these hard time, but reatil and other customer service type jobs can be hard. You dont know what kind of customers they have put up with before they got to you. I know its there job to be friendly and happy but sometimes when you have a bad day you just cant fake it no matter what. I do agree that sometimes, even when things weren't this bad in the economy some people who work in customer service jobs should be working there with the attidute they have, but we all sometimes can't choose what jobs we get, you just have to take the one you can get.

I've worked in VARIOUS retail industries for the last 15 years and even if I was having a bad day I DID NOT let anybody know about it nor did I lash out at my customers. Smile!! :) (MY HAND TO GOD!!)

Alot of places are cutting hours of their workers even if they are holding onto them so we probably have many people walking around WORKING but barely making enough to pay rent

Well everbody is different. You can hide your emotions while having a bad day. Others can't. Some people are silent when in a bad mood and others tend to go off on everybody. Not good if your in the customer service business. Either way people should always try to keep there attidute in check.

I agree that people should just quit their jobs if it makes them so unhappy that they lack customer service and general politeness. People should be more thankful for their jobs. My job isn't exactly the best job in the world, but I'm very thankful to have a job. I work at a tutoring center, and my boss is CRAZY! She gets upset about random things like her eye surgery. She can't keep her emotions in check, and she unleashes her angry on her employees. However, I try my best to be happy and polite to everyone because if they don't like my attitude then they might not want their child to come back. If the parents don't want their child to come back then we have no customers, and if we have no customers I don't get paid. I try my best to put a smile on my face and be grateful despite my emotionally unstable boss.

More than likely they're going to get fired anyway if they keep acting like the world is falling down around them all the time. I've seen it happen many times before. Sometimes people have bad days and they just need to go home and take a day off. However, I've learned from experience that most people who are rude act that way frequently. They just need to suck it up and do their job or not do it at all. I've worked at some pretty sucky jobs before, and I've worked during very difficult times in my life. I understand how people feel when they're in bad moods at work but the whole point of being professional is not letting that side show. It's not good for customers or coworkers when someone is throwing a pity party or being rude. There is always someone else happy to take their job.

I understand your situation, it seems that this Crisis is getting on the nerves on almost every one. most specially with their jobs, it's hard though but some doesn't really have the edge to be professional even in these times. But also understand that these people are also fed up with the same work every day. i have seen in some of my co-staff were they get pissed with more work with no bonus. some had even resign cause they said it's too much. only a few is really up to the task. I wish companies are like that but some of does with the Attitude are good at what they do.

Yeah. I agree with you. I just read over my last comment and it sounded a little rude and kind of harsh. I didn't mean to sound rude or try to put anybody down. I've been working ever since I was fifteen to help support my family, and it has been pretty hard, but no matter how hard it has gotten I have always kept my faith. Sometimes good people go through rough patches and it reflects at work, but I think people should find something to help them relax. I love to ride horses so I make time to do it, and it really calms me down and helps me deal with life. I hope that everybody working difficult jobs can find something that makes them happy to help deal with stress during these difficult times.

I know exactly what you mean, I am from the UK and everyone is struggling here as well. I got made redundant from my previous job and am having to live on part time wages at the moment. Some customer service is really awful and it does make me think that they should be grateful they at least have a job. I am a part time mystery shopper and some of the customer service I receive is shocking. If i had their job I would be very grateful!

now I have went places and ran into nothing but frowns, I think now the expectation is that you just have an expressionless face and its good. I got some sandwiches for my daughter at Wendys once and I saw that I had some change but when I was driving up to pay window and I took 5 seconds to count it but right when I finished making sure I had the right amount the girl at the window shut the window!! I had to wait at least 2 minutes until I knocked on the window and she came back out, I was heated

I dont think that is really fair. Yes, you should be able to brush things off and move on with your day. Yes, you should be able to fake it for the sake of your job. But there are some days when that is just next to impossible! Especially when you are dealing with the public, there are so many nasty people. When you see someone that is miserable, maybe it is because of something the last customer did to them. Smile and be friendly. You neve know how much it might help them!

I am but IT NEVER RECIPROCATES back. I try to see things from their point of view and whenever possible I do say God bless you before I leave that usually takes them by surprise and I've gotten a few blessings back. But I know it's not easy for ANYONE right now. A SMILE GOES A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG WAY!!

I truly understand what you are saying here. I have worked for at a minimum wage job last year cleaning dishes and bussing tables, and helping waitstaff with there customer issues. I did what I could do, for the sake of my job and trying to keep it the best I could, in the end for me at least, it didn't seem to pay off even if I put my heart into trying to help. Whether your in customer service or your working directly for the customers, an angry customer or abusive customer can change a good day into a bad day. What I don't understand is that the customers blame customer service and others first before calmly trying to resolve the situation. I guess what I am trying to say is that, its a big chain of events. A customer is in a bad mood because the customer who dealt with someone else that was in abad mood, directly reflects that anger upon the next person in order to try and relieve some of there anger and stress. This CSR who is taking the call starts getting repeated amount of bad calls is less likely to change their entire perspective or attitude over one person for five minutes who is trying to work it out with them.

I see where you are coming from on that one, we should be happy that atleast we have a job. On the other hand I can see where people would be upset working for minimum wage at a job that will not pay their bills. I love my job, but it does not pay but one bill and I will not quit it but I would love a better one. I think that they would be friendly for fear of being fired and replaced by someone willing to work for less.
