I Just Couldn't Stand It Anymore~~I HAD To Do It

Get your mind out of the gutter when I say I had to "do it" Ever since I've had my combo carpal tunnel and strained wrist injury I haven't been accomplishing much--not here at MyLot, writing in general, and certainly not housecleaning--no my place doesn't look like Katrina smashed through my apartment, but I've been babying my hand to let it heal. Normally, I clean the floors for instance faithfully once a week---and not "mop" so to say, but I'm of the old school you might say, and still am one of those that gets on my hands and knees to clean the floors. Well I haven't done that for two weeks now, ever since my injuries..BUT I JUST COULDN'T STAND IT ANYMORE--- Being the neurotic clean/neat freak, I just had to clean the floors and just finished a little while ago--I started at 10:30 p.m. and finished around 11:00. Yes...I started late--I usually clean in the daytime hours, but I was bored sitting on my fanny and wanted to do something. Now I have nice clean floors....uh, just HOW do floors get so friggin dirty anyway? I walk around barefoot so it's not like I have dirt from shoes mucking up the floors. I remember in times past, I would clean no matter how lousy I felt--like the times I would have serious bouts of bronchitis and sounded like Darth Vader breathing, and the other times I've had carpal tunnel--so I just got real friggin determined to clean those friggin floors---can always put ice on my hand if it acts up more again..but I feel better about myself now for my "accomplishment"---LOL Have you ever put off cleaning due to sickness or injury then reached the point you just couldn't stand it anymore and shook you're fanny and decided to clean anyway? Did it make you feel better?

I have cronic shoulder and back problems, and I know exactly how you feel. I can only put off cleaning for so long before it drives me crazy. And with 2 cats and 2 dogs, it doesn't take all that long. I don't very often move furniture, but I have to dust and vaccuum to get rid of the pet hair, or else the edges and corners start looking like there's a layer of felt on them. Of course it's worse in the summer with all the shedding. I can brush a cat for half an hour, until the brush comes out clean...then I can pet her and have a cloud of hair come off. If they can invent self-cleaning litter boxes, why can't they invent a self-vacuuming floor? I'd glandly loose an inch or two of room height to be able to flick a switch to have all the hair and dirt sucked under the floor and into a central collection bin. Wouldn't THAT be cool?

a self-vacuuming or self-mopping floor--now THAT would be the invention of all inventions!!!

Yes it would be. Since that doesn't look like it's going to happen any time soon, maybe some one could design a tiny vaccuum to have the cats pull along behind them...lol. Wouldn't THAT make them mad?

LOL--your girlfriend sounds like Oscar Maddison of that old show "The Odd Couple"--even with my injuries I still keep the kitchen clean--can't stand to have dirty dishes so wash them...and yes by hand since I don't have a dishwasher--I hate mess of any kind to be honest and a real neat freak--that's why I just had to do those darn floors...LOL I haven't seen Bell, Book & Candle in ages but I love the movie :-) My black cat IS named Pyewacket BTW

Had that same feeling today. Although, I postponed cleaning for another reason. Before we moved, I had a lovely Electrolux vacuum that picked up all the dirt in my house. Ironically, we had stone tile floors, so it was hard to vacuum. Before we left, hubby accidentally put my beautiful vacuum in storage and had no time to retrieve it. In our new place, we have nothing but carpet. I'd forgotten how tracked up carpets get. Have to vacuum them almost daily. However, with no vacuum, I'm doing my best with a regular kitchen broom.

I'm so glad I don't have to vacuum anymore---I pulled up all the wall to wall carpeting ages ago and it does make it so much easier to deal with --otherwise no doubt I would have tons of kitty hair to deal with on carpeting

LOL! I am a clean/neat freak too. You know what? I often wash my floors on my hands and knees too. I think I can get them cleaner that way then by just using a mop. Anyway, I have 2 boys, 2 cats and a husband who tends to be a slob so I have to housecleaning daily to keep things done well enough that I can stand it, including the floors, at least a sweep even if I don't mop, though I usually mop at least every other day as well. The only time I don't clean is when I'm really, really sick, like when I am so sick I can barely get out of bed. The thing is, I just can't relax if my apartment isn't a certain level of clean. So even when that happens, if I am sick for longer then a couple of days, usually by the third day I am dragging myself out of bed, even though I feel like dying, just to clean the place up because I simply can't stand it any more! Sometimes I can get my kids and/or husband to clean a little when I'm sick like that, but I am suck a clean/neat freak that whatever they try to do in that situation just doesn't meet with my specs and standards and it gets to the point where I can't stand it and I just have to get up and do it myself!

I'm the opposite--no matter how sick I am, I get out of bed----I think that is a hangover from when I was eleven years old and had a serious case of the flu and was bedridden for weeks and hated it----for me to stay in bed now would freak me out...lol...although I might sleep later than usual

Hi pye, I am sorry that you are still suffering and I know it must be hard for you, when i was ill I still had to do things as my hubby is complete useless, but I drew the line when it came to cooking and couldn't stand the smell of it, so he had to get a take out. I hope you will get better son, sending healing your way. Bright Blessings. Tamara xx

My mother when she was alive was completely useless too and never helped out not even if I were dying...LOL. I kept saying to her, "What would you do if you lived alone--then you would have to clean"---would give me a look like I just landed from space--as far as cooking...I really WOULD have to be dying if I had let her cook--she would burn water if she could...LOL

Yes I ALWAYS have that happenwhen I'm sick. There is always a breaking point where I just have to clean a little. And I do think it actually helps me feel better b/c I'm getting rid of all the germs from being sick. The biggest thing for me when 'm sick is dishes and blankets. Dishes end up all around the sink b/c after I eat I'm ready for a nap (when I'm sick). Blankets end up feeling "germy" over time b/c I'm sneezing or coughing or whatever. So after a few days of being sick I always feel the need to really clean the kitchen/dishes and wash the blankets I was using. After I do that, suddenly I feel better like I'm starting to heal :)

I like things to be clean also. I can tolerate some messes, dust, etc. But then I have to deal with it. It always makes me feel better. I do a lot of general cleaning to try to keep up with the kids. There are the days I clean much more. I have no set schedule. Please don't hurt yourself. Cleaning is good. Hurting yourself doing it is not good. Clean in small sections. One room at a time.

Hi pye my fellow clean freak lol! I am like that too! Accept with having a 3 year old and a hubby in the house I clean my house once a day including the floors! With being pregnant again (due in October) I can't do as much in a day as I used to do so it got me mad and I "went on strike" for 2 days and then I just like you couldn't take it anymore!

OOOOHH yeah. After I had back surgery in 2006, I was flat on my back for several weeks after that. My kids tried to keep the house clean, my 18 year old son was the main cleaner. He'd done a really good job for the most part. Except that my refridgerator was a stinkin mess. Leftovers that should have been thrown out days before, tea had been spilled, there was a carrot that was rotten beyond recognition! LOL FInally one day, I literally sat on the floor and cleaned it out.

I am about to try to do my "catch up" cleaning this week. I finished college finals Sunday, and did some cleaning Monday. But I took today off. Funny thing is my Mom always wondered if a person is never home how can they get their house dirty. I can now explain it to her! I am in the same boat, I can't stand the mess! My floors also have the dirt stuff too. I think there is someone who we can't see who comes through with a basket of crunchy dirt and sprinkles it on the floor like a flower girl at a wedding. Plus there are others that take things out of their respectful spots and move them so that they create clutter and mess. Of course I have four dogs and four cats that help out. Especially Khuay! He managed to get into my wrapping paper cupboard this morning. I haven't had the courage to check it out. I didn't know he was in there and I closed the door locking him in. I heard meowing and checked my bedroom and Willy was in front of the door clawing at it. He stopped when I came in and looked at me very seriously. I was a bit dense this morning and didn't get the drift right away, until the door went back and forth. I opened it to see a white streak go hurtling through the air and down the hall. It was Khuay! I try to clean no matter what, but this past semester really has wiped me out. So, when I recover from the semester and from the odd job I picked up, I will seriously clean house and get ready to be laid up for about 6 weeks.

I once accidently locked my Kissy in one closet---she does have a habit of snoozing in there, and I do check to see if she's in there or not before I go to bed...well didn't see her so locked the closet...next day I get up--start feeding Pyewacket and fix my breakfast when I hear a scratching noise--OMG--it was Kissy! Meaning she had been in that closet for eight hours--she was okay, and she didn't make a mess but I sure felt guilty as all heck--uh, she milked up all the extra attention I was giving her...LOL And yes I agree--there must be an invisible "dirt" fairy that sprinkles dirt on the floors

I was cleaning today and decided that my "dirt fairy" must be the size of a dinosaur! I can't beleive how much dust, cobwebs, and general dirt there is in the house! I can excuse part of the dust as last weekend was Memorial Day weekend and we were busy here where I live...and the dust was really flying. But it is totally incredible how much other dirt I am finding. It looks like I haven't cleaned for the past 20 years!!

i do chores even when i am terribly sick. there are certain things that even sickness can't be an excuse for me. also i am not really a fan of lying in bed when i am sick, i move around the house, do chores, even hang out during the late nights.

I wish I were more like this. Unfortunately, most times I can easily turn my head the other way when it comes to any kind of housework. And I will dream up any type of thing that is a priority before I do any kind of cleaning. Eventually, even I am forced to clean, but I would never be considered a neat freak. I am the type to have piles of papers on my desk, but I know just where everything is. If there is one area that I am best at cleaning, it's probably laundry. I enjoy doing laundry and having clean clothes and towels and sheets, so if I have a ton of cleaning to do, this will always be first on the list. Be careful of your wrist!

Being alone I have to do everything myself whether I want to or not and it really sucks at times...but the same thing would happen when my mother was still alive--she would sometimes do some of the cleaning chores and I just plain didn't like the way she did things...so I'd wind up doing them over again...LOL

lol. I would rather do anything then clean. I am not a neat freak, I flat out hate it. I only clean when the mess gets so out of hand that I can't stand it anymore. Any excuse to not clean will do. I clean sometimes when I am antzy or when I am bored. Or when I am having company.

Yes I have cleaned in the past being sick or in pain, because just seeing the work and knowing it needs to get done , and it would get on my nerves and make me feel worse, so I would get up and clean, plus I would take my time and it did make me feel better afterwards.

Hi Pyewacket, I mop usually but every now and again to give a really good clean will get down on my hands and knes and scrub the floor clean. Well done for doing it feeling as you are with your hand. The only thing I can think of that I put off as didn't have the enregy to start was clearing out the under stairs cupboard but eventually I got to the stage where I couldn't open it without feeling bad about it and just got stuck in and yes once accomplished felt very good.
