Are you living up to your father's expectations or making up for his mistakes?

i find the above question an interesting one. for me, i find that i might just be unconsciously doing both. expectations from my dad or rather from either of my parent will evidently shape my thoughts and mould my aspirations in life to a certain extent. as to any of my father's shortcomings, i accept them and embrace them and i definitely try my best to avoid repeating them. what about you?

i tried to live up to my dad's expectations before, always in the honor, doing what he wants till the day i came to realize i am not happy following what he wants, it was like choking me, i am not allowed to this because he does not approve..till the day came when i really let him down. it was hard, and there was a time where we did not speak with each other for 1 year or more. it was hell. but eventually, when i became who i really am...we got closer through the help of my kids and we are closer now than ever, he came to accept twho i am and what i like.

I try my best to live up to my father's expectations. I am actually doing my best to do more than that. To exceed my parents' expectations and to see them proud of me gives me a sense of direction in life - it makes me feel like I'm doing the right thing. Although my father have had mistakes from the past, he tries his best to keep it apart from our relationship. He is a good man and I couldn't have turn out as well as I did if he was not exactly who he is :) Thanks for the response on my discussion!

i dont think i've ever or still not living up to my dad expectations at all, he wanted education for me, and wanted me to be more then what i've became. it's not that he made any mistakes it was me dealing with things well i was growing up
