And Wednesday is the day of Great Courses. Now, I know my friends here know how much I love my mother. And when she is able to go, I take her to Great Courses at the place she lives, even if she mostly sleeps thru them now. Then I take her to the Diningroom for lunch. Last week mom wasn't feeling good, so I stayed with her until almost time to go to Great Courses. Now, the program and lunch in the Health Care Center (HCC) are at the same time, so she can't do both. So, I left her to eat in the HCC and when upstairs to the program. Right now the Manor is remodeling the regular Dining room and the other facility for exercise, Harris Bell Hall (HBH) is being used as the dining facilities so they are exercising in the Solarium. Well, exercise ends just a short time before the program begins and I hate to see those 70-90 yr olds rearranging the furniture, so I've been pushing around the larger peices for them. And I would feel really bad if I couldn't do this. When I take mom, I do it too, so basically the only thing I do differently is arrive there a different way. Normally they have a staff member do it, but we can't be sure he'll get there in the 15 minutes between the activities so I've been doing most of the work. After the program, I then go back down and make sure mom is all right. And, even if I do all this, I will get back to my job earlier than I would if I had taken mom to lunch, so I feel I can linger with her a while longer. So, do you do anything special on certain days of the week like I do on Wednesdays?

Other then doing the trash, not not really. It's great that you spend so much time with your mother on wednesday's and that you do so much for the center. Glad to know there are still people in this world that care, with so much going on, sometimes you just can't be sure.

I don't blame you, when I'm sick I hardly want to leave the house, let alone go give someone else whatever I have.

The only thing I do on Wednesdays which is different, is go out to play darts. Sundays, I go to my son's and have dinner, and if the weather's good we'll go out with the children and the dogs, but other than that, I have no special days really. I just take things as they come. Brightest Blessings.

I think the doing nothing much sound good about now! I'm worn out on my 5ish hours of sleep - bed is sounding very tempting! Darts are good, I remember that you are on a team, don't know that we have dart teams around here - wouldn't know where to find one if there was one.

Hi Elic, I wish your mom the best of health ever. As for me, I love Wednesdays because it is something close to the weekend and even though some weekends I do have to work, I still feel that a sudden rush of happiness when the weekend is coming. It's like in the middle of the week and it's like not here and not there. I love Wednesdays, it's one of the best days on any given week.

Used to be that Weds was my favorite day of the week. I didn't have to do one of the chores I had to do 3 times a week at and I also didn't have to do the trash on it either. Hard to explain, there was data entered on Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, so the information was then checked on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Then trash was on Tuesdays and Friday. That left Monday and Weds for favorite day, and who's going to pick Monday?

That's some cool explanation there. If given a choice to me, I'd choose Wednesdays anytime over Mondays too. Mondays have always been a bit bluish for me.

I use to go visit my grandparents a couple times a week to help them out. Like cutting there grass and planting flowers. And even make a small garden. My grandmother loved her gardens. She use to tend to one all the time. But both of my grandparents passed away. So I go down and stay with my mom at times on the weekends.

I love spending time with my mom. We can sure make each other laugh. Even when we are talking on the internet. There are times she still cries because the lose of her parents. And it hurts me just the same but we both support each other all the time.

It happens that you had an enjoyable Wednesday. I like most of Wednesdays are shows on tv that I like most. Clark Kent happens to be watched on that prime time in our country as well as that experimental boy who happens to be so genius enough. Jobs always been the same even on any day for me. But Wednesday night would be a sit in the couch and watching the show on tv.

no I can't any longer since I am disabled myself and I rarely leave the house. I used to do all kinds of things in my earlier days, I used to be an advocate for families of juvenile delinquents, I serve on the pta, and did volunteer work at the school, I used to be a board director in a single parent association, and so much more, oh yes lunch mother, and library attendant for the kids. I did it all, but not at the same time lol.

well, I never did the "parental unit" things since I chose to not be a parent, and let me tell you, if I did have all these MUCH older than I am folks doing so much, I probably would be sitting at home feeling sorry for myself.

That's really wonderful, what you do for your mother and others at the nursing center! Wednesdays are special for me, too, because my sons always visit on Wednesdays, as long as everyone is feeling up to it. I'm expecting them here any time now. We spend the day doing "whatever" usually with nothing really planned, but they always come with a couple of movies on DVD. My husband bought himself a HUGE HDTV, 52 inch screen. My sons LOVE watching their movies on that TV. I guess it's a guy thing because I'm perfectly contented watching movies on our "small" TV, the one my husband bought before the big one, which is a mere 42 inches. LOL (Actually, I have a TV in my office here that has only something like a 25 inch screen and it's fine with me. I don't need to see people in movies as large as real life!) Sometimes, my sons and I will go out to lunch or we'll all fix dinner together. Sometimes we go outside, when the weather cooperates. (We've had SO MUCH rain this year!!!) It's raining right now, so it'll be an indoor day. They've also been helping me sort through all the stuff I inherited from my mother which includes, literally, thousands of photographs. I look at all the photo albums and it's such a daunting task that they offered to help. We make different piles of different photos because I want to send copies of some of them to various cousins scattered across the country. It's going to take awhile. So, that's my special day. We sometimes get together at other times during the week for different reasons, but Wednesdays are our "family" time together. I really enjoy them.

I probably would be home almost every day & night if mom didn't need me and I didn't have a job. When I wasn't working and going to mom's I spent almost every day at home. In fact, I would take a book with me and drop the roomie off at work and then stop and read in a park for an hour or so, just to be outside for a while, at least until it got too hot.

Wednesdays for me are not spent being so helpful like you Elic, you seem such a nice person always willing to assist and the way you take care of your mum is to be commended, I hope her health improves, I really do. As for me the most exciting thing I do on Wednesday is grocery shopping; I do it almost always on a Wednesday because that is when I start to run out of things and being the creature of habit that I am, I don't like to break away from my weekly routine.

Really great having our mom around, reminds me of my mom who passed away 2 years a go, though I I took good care of her till she's 93 and stayed by her side till her last breath, still I miss her much and am touch reading post like yours. Continue doing a great job for your mom and I wish you both good health and happiness of having her around. Now that my children are grown ups, on Wednesdays, after doing household chores I have to attend the Novena to the Mother of Perpetual Help at the famous Redemptorist church here in Baclaran Paranaque. So many people gathered here to say the Novena prayers, scheduled every hour, before the holy mass. People flucked her for their petitions and thanksgiving. Numerous testimonies from differrent people of granted petitions and prayer requests are being heard. So that's our Wednesday here, a fiesta like Baclaran day with huge crowd of devotees and vendors plus a heavy traffic. No regrets however, you feel blessed when you join the crowd.

Let me start off by saying that is a very inspirational personal anecdote ElicBxn. I admire that you would go through all that hassle each day. Though i would feel its a moral obligation to ones mother, i am not the voice of everyone. You have a great heart keep up the good work :) and enjoy caring for your mother as she had cared for you as a child. I personally love fridays. It is a bit cliche i know because everyone likes a friday because it means the end of the week. I however like it not only for that, but because it grants me the time to spend with my friends. Also it is the day of the week in which i max out on all my workouts. I usually just use low weights and high repetition in the weight room on any other day of the week, but on fridays i had on the highest weight i can do(of course with a spotter)and max out my body. I love the feeling of being sore. To me it screams improvement. Plus, who doesnt love the feeling of sleeping sore?. Best sleep in the world in my opinion :).

I do feel obligated to spend time with mom, but it is also a joy. Today was another day where she didn't want to go the the Great Courses, and because I stayed with her late, I also didn't get over in time to help move the chairs. If you check an earlier response, I mentioned that there was a time when Weds were my favorite day and why - you might want to look at that.

I am actually a very detail oriented person. My girls laugh at my routines, but hey, they work, so why fight em right? Each day of the week is the time to do a different household chore. Of course, laundry and dishes are done every day, because if not we would run out of clean clothes and be over run with critters if dirty dishes were left in the sink. Monday's are the days I change all the linens on the beds, vaccuum the entire house. Tuesdays, I take everything off the counter's and wipe it down with bleach water, and sweet the front porch, steps and balcony. Wednesday is bathroom day. I clean the tub, sink and toilets in both bathrooms. Thursday, I sweep and mop the kitchen, diningroom and both bathrooms. Friday, I try to make sure that all the laundry is caught up for the weekend, and I clean the refrigerator out and straighten the cabinets, and vaccum the whole house again. Saturday, I go to the grocery store and the discount store for household items I need to purchase. Sunday, I go to church. I try not to do much housework that day, unless it's absolutely necessary.

Hi Elic, You should not take away the task that the old people have volunteered to carry on. It hurts their sentiment though we think that why should they do all these and we the young people go ahead but you know this act serves as an insult top their capability. Hence now on let them do what they are up to and if you feel things are not in proper order you do it without their knowledge.

the Manor staff is supposed to do it, but like I said, there is only a small window they can do it in now, and they haven't been able to make it, so rather than let the older folks move the big peices, I have been doing it. They are welcome to move the smaller peices, but I really feel bad if they have to move the big chairs. Now, if they weren't on the gliders, I wouldn't be able to move them either, but they are. Still they are very heavy chairs, and at least I have the weight to throw at them.
