I am talking about buses, coaches, trains, trams, subway and any other public transport you can think of...
How do you choose your seat when you board a public transport?
What goes in the thought process??
For me, my first priority is a window seat if I am having a long journey ahead. Next would be a clean seat next to a lady... Come on, I am a girl, I don't like sitting next to male strangers... Sorry guys, but I grew with stories of how bad people are usually guys... LOL...
Only on occasiona that I am in a hurry, I sit nearest to the exit as much as possible...
Hmm.. I just realise there are occasions where the vehicles(bus/train) would be fully seated... So when that happens, how do you decide where you would stand??
I would stand near somewhere I can lean to, provided it is clean...
So how do you decide where to sit/stand on a bus and/or a train?

Looks like u are a clean freak huh?? lol =D MOst of the time, i will not really choose my seat even though there are alot of empty seats around.. However, i will always try to avoid those last rows as seats there are very much uncomfortable and small.. haha =D
Other than that, i have no perference, and i dun mind guys or gals sitting next to me, as long as they dun invade my space as well.. hehe ^_^ As for standing, as long as there's something around for me to grab hold on, i dun minf standing anywhere too.. haha
Also, i dun have the habit of sitting when it's just a short distance.. 30 minutes of ride, is considered short for me.. haha =D

Hi kun2349,
LOL... I don't know if I am considered a clean freak... I just want to avoid the cockroachs that might be crawling around... I still remember the time where eating is still allow on buses... THERE are always quite a few cockroachs crawling around, making the journey on the bus uncomfortable... *Double Shivers*
I stand when it is a short distance ride... I define less than 10 stops short... But I would still chose to sit if the bus is crowded.. I don't like to obstruct people at the exit... Neither do I like those who insist on standing at the exit even they are not alighting yet... It's like there are creepy stuff at the back of the bus or something... LOL...

LOL.. Don't get me started on stories... I might just post a discussion on it too.. LOL... haha...
Yup, the buses now are a lot cleaner than before... I just don't like cockroaches or even baby ones to crawl into my bag or something... Just send another shivers down my neck... lol...
haha... I am glad my country's train system is quite clean... I get sit just anyway, though i still sit by the windows or near the rear end of the section.

lol =D IT seems like u have lotsa of phobia concerning public transport right?? Did u mom tell u all those stories?? hehe ^_^ Den i guess, u should dislike small narrow alleys and dimly lited areas right?? lol =D
Nowadays, there are not as many cockroaches on buses as compared to the past.. Even if there are, it's only baby cockroaches.. haha =D I dun like standing at the exit too, unless i really have got no choice.. lol =D

Well, I will say that this had to depend whether if there are seats left. If there are a lot of seats left, then I will sit usually around the middle to the back of the bus/train. If I'm going down soon, I will usually be near the exit of the bus/train sitting/standing. However, if the train/bus is very crowded, I think if I had a space to stand, I will be very happy...

I consider myself lucky, i guess... I would usually wait for the next train or bus... I have to admit, I am lazy to squeeze in a crowded bus.. And I do not like crowded buses... =
Afterall, transportation in Singapore is consider not too bad already.. So I would usually prefer to wait.

Well, I will say that sometimes the buses timing are quite "irregular" due to the traffic. In addition, it's very hard to guess when the next bus is coming, so if I can get onto the bus, it's already very good for me. Well, for the train, it's certainly a lot faster in between trains, and timing of the next train are usually known. However, during peak hours, when you need to go to work, everyone are also using the trains as well. So, if we can get onto the train, it will be best, as you do not know if the next train is even more crowded than this current train...

Hi.
I first of all look for a clean seat and then check whether I can find a company or not. If it is a girl, better it is and if there is no seat to settle down I would like to lean against something clean, near window or door. The first thing that I look for while entering any public transport, if I have a baggage, where can I put it safely.

Hi.
I don't know why I prefer a girls company over a guys' while traveling but it is the way it is. Other then that...
- I look for a company because the journey that I usually have to undergo is for 3 to 4 hours and it is quite boring if you don't have someone to talk to all the while.
- It is usually so hot here at if you keep your baggage in your lap, you'll sweat a lot.

I use the local transportation every week, I take the bus in to town for shopping. And there is one thing that happen every time. When some one get on the bus they first look for an empty seat. And most sit by the window. I am doing the same. Now, here is the funny thing, if the bus is full people rather stand in stead of sitting on a empty seat if ther is some one already sitting by the window.
Like you I also like to sit near the exit doors. I like to move fast, but not becouse of any fears from others, it just seems right.
You never know why this is, but to be honest I do the same. It seems like we are afraid to sit beside someone you do not know, or people only like to sit by the window.

For me , I prefer the middle seat..mean not too front and not too behind...This is because front there and the back there got tyres..When it comes to any humps, there will be some uncomfartable feeling. And I dont like to take the window seat..because the sunlight is coem in through there.. and I had experience before, when I open my eyes, the raining water splashed to my face when the lorry go over the water..OMG! my face and my shirt were wet! Lolz..
Yet, i do agree! I dont liek to seat beside guys. This is because it is weird and so strange.
In LRT, I prefer stand then sit. Because the seat is hot. And i dont like to torture my butt! Lolz..
Have a nice day!

Ooh... Humps... I didn't think about that... Guess I wasn't affected by that... I remember when I was younger, I think it's 6years old, I took the school bus to and fro from school... I like to jump when the bus goes over humps... You tend to jump pretty high and the ceiling of the bus is like within reach then... Those were the days where you think small things are fun.. haha.. Miss those days too...
Are you from Singapore too? You mentioned LRT... haha..
Singapore's weather can be hot sometimes... But I am someone who is feels cold easily, that is why I tend to prefer the window seat.. Furthermore, looking out the window is a natural past time for me on the bus....
Thanks for sharing, veron044!

I see.. Sorry for the mistake..
But Singapore has LRT too.. It's in Chua Chu Kang and Sengkang MRT Train Stations... They are smaller circuit trains that goes around that 2 areas only...
Is Singapore really cooler than Malaysia?? That I don't know.. I think I am a quite a frog in the well.. LOL... Only been to Genting Highlands once... It is extremely cold up there.. Then again, I feel cold easily... My judgment is very opposite from the general public...

Lolz..i think we can only jump when it reach a hump.. Now, I am already reaching 20 soon. I cant imagine if I jump now, what will be the respond of others! Haha..
Yaya..it is comfortable when the wind is blowing in. But, I prefer to take bus with air-con. I have almost 5 years do nto take bus. I start to take back bus since last saturday. Because I came to other state to continue my study.
Nope! I am not a singaporean! I am now staying in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. There is LRT provided. Singapore is MRT. My hometown is in Penang, Malaysia. How about u? A singaporean? Lolz..
Ya. Singapore is much more cooler than Malaysia. Here is soudn like desert. Get sweat after bathing! But it is better than Afrika d! I shoud appreciate it rather than blaming! Hehe..
Have a nice day!:)

i HATE public transport, for this reason, interacting with wierdos.. not that all people who travel with public transport are wierdos.. i just think that you ALWAYS get somebody thats either drunk or just a bit doolally that tries to talk to you or chat you up, it's abit scary sometimes!! I just sit in the middle of the bus.. on my own, near the window with my bag on the seat next to me so nobody is tempted to sit next to me.

I agree, ignoring is sometimes the best solution but not in my case.
Mine is not wierdos.. LOL.. Mine is more dirty-minded uncles... You will know when you notice where their eyes are heading...
Lucky me, there is lesser these kind of uncles on the train...
Since you hate public transport, how do you get around? Drive? Cycle?
Thanks for sharing simonjayme!

oh so it isn't just me then haha, i tend just to look the other way, getting up and moving would probably make them angry and throw abuse or something, or make them talk to me more.. ignoring them makes me feel better. i love listening to my ipod too on the bus but if some wierdo is eyeing it up then i put it away! haha you never know do you

many people love to sit the window seat. it has many uses and many problems.
the most important problem like smell of wastes and excess wint. but no one
think about that. during my journey in bus I would like to sit the toolbox
near the driver or last seat there is low effect i think that i can never enjoy journey through bus.
but going through train i select window seat where we can easily buy our needs
and in many trains there is small table near the window seat we use this more effectively
Have a nice day!:)

I preferred to seat besides the window and to the two sitter row when it comes to bus. Near the window you could grasp air especially when the bus is not an airconditioned and you'll just have one passenger besides you. I don't seat at the back as I felt dizzy while at the front, I don't forget my mom's advise, in case of vehicular accidents the front seats are severely damaged, so as much as possible I don't seat at the front maybe on the second or third row. In case of standing, I stand at the aisle where I can lean on any side of a seat near me. Like others of course, I want to sit beside a female passenger as well.

When i take a bus,i will choose a clean and no people sit beside the chair.Second,i will choose the chair which in middle or back position.I like to sit at middle or back because i will not smell anything bad or stinky like smoke or body's smell. If there are not have empty chair that no one sit on the chair,i will cit on it too because i dont want to stand for a long journey.I will never take train again because it takes a long time to go.I suffer of it and also got back ache when i take train last week to go to my sister's house.

it make me feel relax.

I normally sit in the very back of the bus, right next to the window. If those two seats are full, then I sit in one of the seats where you're facing sideways, not forwards. As far as sitting next to people, the only time I had any real trouble sitting next to someone was a few weeks ago, when this guy started talking to me about what a pimp he was, and how he liked me, blah, blah, blah...the whole harassment deal.
Oh, one more thing. I don't mind sitting next to someone as long as I'm sitting next to the aisle. I start feeling like I'm being trapped if someone else is sitting next to the aisle.
@ksherrie (891)

I see... The only time I feel trapped is when the someone else who is sitting next to me is when it is someone really big sized. No offence to big-sized people but the space in between each chairs are not big enough for them. It is a difficult task to try and alight with them by your side. They would have to stand, move aside, before I can move out...
Anyway, thanks for sharing coolcoder!

As much as possible, I don't like sitting with a guy. And it's a must for me to sit by the aisle when I'm commuting alone. This is because I had a traumatic experience before when I was seated beside this man who did something totally gross beside me.
I also sit near the front/exit for safety purposes.

I choose the right side chair in the bus or any
public vehicles. I want to be safe in case there
are instances of accident.I also want to sit iin a window so
that I can view all the things I've seen in doing the ride.
It is in the right because in my thought staying in sitting at
the right side area is th best for me.

I will choose the seat based on the following criteria:
1) I will sit on a seat where nobody has sat before
2) I will not sit on a hot seat
3) I will not sit on a seat facing the window because when the train goes into tunnel, it reflects my face and I totally doesn't want to see my own face.

I prefer sitting beside the window too. My husband is so used to it and he lets me sit first when we ride a public bus. Then when we ride a train we prefer standing when there are no longer available sits. We stand in the middle and find the place where we can lean our back. We also tend to look for where the air conditioner is maximized. In some other public vehicles I always check before sitting the seat area and the floor too. I hate it when there are trashes everywhere so I always choose the cleanest area possible. When in a bus I prefer sitting also beside a woman when I am alone and my husband is at work. I do not want sitting beside men because I hate them when they stare to me. That is wrong and very improper.

I would try to avoid trash if possible as I want to avoid cockroaches... I don't like any of them near me... *Shivers*
Ya I agree, the guys/men always stare when you sit beside some of them sometimes... It sometimes makes me wonder if there is something dirty on me or what... Then again, if I think further I would think that guy is having improper thoughts.. LOL..

I like sitting at the window seat for the view, and also I can lean my shoulder against the wall. I guess everyone prefer that. I like to sit at the back of the bus too because I don't feel comfortable when people are behind me.
I feel like they all staring at me,lol even though they are not.
Happy lotting!

Ooh.. I see... I have a different opinion as yours about sitting at the back.. I prefer to look at the people who board the bus from the back... They have weird expressions sometimes when they evaluate where to sit... Then you can discover that they have different sitting positions... LOL...

I also prefer to sit beside the window. It is because I don't like sitting in the middle. Another reason is that I don't like to close the windows. I also like sitting near the bus door for me not to have long time to get out the bus. But sometime I like to sit in the middle of the when me and my friends or classmates ride on a bus. But sometimes when the bus is fully loaded we sometimes stand. If we ride in a jeepney I like to sit in the front or at the last sit.

First of all I'd say 90% of time I couldn't find a seat on a public transport in my home city because there are so many people and less seats are provided. The rest 10% of time I have to give up my seat to those who really need it, like the elderly, the pregnant, the disabled blah blah. Then this question becomes where do I usually stand? Well, I'd say I can't have a choice. I would be lucky if I can only find a room to stand. Also, the ticket seller often urges that we should stand at the tail. So, yeah, I'm not a big fun of public transport. :)

Hi wmfhed,
That's some bad luck you are having with public transport! Where are you from?
That is nice of you to give up your seat to those who needs it more than you.. I seldom or never had this chance... It is either I don't see them around or other passengers are a lot faster than I do... Yup, I admit I am slow.. My reactions are slow sometimes...

i always, when ever u have to choose a seat or anything else
go for the one furthest away
that doesnt necessarily mean back, and on buses i never go to the back, i always go to the middle and i always sit on the left. if im standing i stand nearer the front, not to far back.
things like trains, i always sit on the window side, and i always sit travelling backwards.
things like public toilets (i know this doesnt count)
i alwways go for the out of the way toilet, or the toilet hidden behind a wall or whatever
:)
