Hello composers out there!!!
I am sure there are surely many song composers around here or at least who are very good in music.
Composing new songs is one of my hobby. Mostly I write the songs by myself and give melody to the song myself. Sometimes, I also prefer to take the lyrics or poem from my friend and give melody to it.
While composing music, I may follow number of methods. Before when I didn't know how to play guitar, I used to think of some sentences or lyrics and start lost myself in finding a good tune for that lyrics. Well it was certainly a difficult approach than having a musical instrument. But it gave me some unique creations.
Now I know how to play guitars at least play with the chords. So nowadays, I take the help of my guitar for composing songs. I play some patterns, lost in it and then find a matching nice melody from that. That was easier in some way.
But I am not professional yet. Though I have many creations. Don't ask me for posting it. Because they on my native Nepali language.
Do you compose. If so, how do you go on?
Thanks in advance for the responses....Happy mylotting...

I am not a song writer per say, but I am a poet.
Occasionally I have put music to my poems, but it usually techno that I piece together on freeware software like audiacity.
I often write poems that rely on a tempo, and sometimes that tempo starts a rythem in my head that I feel is really important to the feeling of the poem, and so I search around for sound bites and samples and put something together.

Hello lululastrange and citychic!!! Glad to find you people in the this thread...
Poems can turn into songs when you sing the poem with melody, oops then it becomes sing the song, not more poem. That is nice idea to play a tempo and then start writing. That will give so rhythmic peoms that will be so good to be used for the further composition of songs. Actually many songs are previously written in the form of poem. If the singer likes the poem then he may sing it as the song.
And citychic, why do you lay your writing somewhere? You should give life to your writing by yourself, come on....
Happy mylotting...

do you compose songs?
Good for you lululastrange. It sounds like you might be on to something. I've heard about the freeware software. I do wished that I knew more about music so that I could do more as far as composing my own songs but like you I can write a poem and have a melody in my head then I will just lay it down somewhere and I never really wind up doing anything much more with it. Maybe this year I will try to work a little bit harder to take it to the next step just as you are doing. Great job and keep up the good work.Happy mylotting!

Garage band is a good way to compose your music because of the huge amount of options and instruments available on there, it is also fun to play around with, but if you need to remember it and play it using real instruments then Garageband will give you a flavour of what it will sound like. So you need to write it down or you will forget it.

Hello goapples!!!
Well you are absolutely right. If we don't write or record what we just create there is definite chance that we forget it immediately when we stop humming or singing it..But I am very much conscious regarding this thing. Immediately after i get some tune i record it either in my cell phone or the computer just to keep the creation safe. Then I may go further, find another tune and again record it and then finally merge it at last...
But I don't know what is the Garage band. What is it actually. Can you clarify a bit...?
Thanks for your presence in this thread...I hope to see your further response...Happy mylotting...

Do you compose songs?
Hello nzalheart. Yes just the other day I started writing a song. I would really love to be able to play a guitar so that I can get a tune and melody for it. But I don't know how to play a guitar so I'm kind of like waiting to see how else I can get my song into the hands of the right people so that it can be a success. Did you teach yourself to play the guitar or did you have a teacher? Normally when I'm writing my songs I will just write down whatever happens to be in my mind at the time, then I will try to think of something that ryhme with it. Writing songs is a lot of fun but if I can write and get paid for what I'm writing it would be even better. If you care to share any tips I would love to hear some. Have you posted any of your songs out on youtube yet? That is where you should post them if you would like to get more exposure. I have a few out there that I've been singing. They are not my own original songs but songs from other artist that I enjoyed singing. Hope you will check me out over there sometime. Once you sign up just look for candylady1625 Thanks for responding, happy mylotting, have a nice day friend.

Song writing is the great fun yeah...It gives very great self satisfaction to me. In the future I want to take these creation a step higher i.e exposing.
About learning guitar, at first my uncle used to teach me some chords. Hardly I kept the fingers over the fret of the guitar. many times I wondered, only if I could play the guitar and give music to my songs. Because I had to ask my uncle to give music for me, but don't really care. Its good to learn by ourselves. I don't think I learnt with any teacher supervising me. I have guitar in the home, and just hold it, put the chord pattern, try to change it fluently and play some rhythm. Slowly I became able. But still to sing song with it was difficult, I would always confuse with the beat. Its only because I needed the practice. And I have my best friend, immediately after I learned to play some songs, he started touching the guitar in his life and started practicing. And he learned it within a month, at least play few songs.
I don't know whether there is any earning site with the songs. I was once thinking the same thing. I don't usually write in English and I think not at all. I write in my own native language. But I will try to write a English song soon and sure I will post it in the you tube and won't miss to publish it in you tube if I do it. I am already the member of you tube and I can watch your video. But I have never posted a video in youtube yet, I just use it for commenting.
Candylady1625, got it...I will search on you tube...
Happy mylotting...And good luck for your songs...

Hey nzalheart! I wrote a song several years ago. I got somebody else to write the music, though. I'm still not sure how good it is. Everytime I played and sang it for the family, they always laughed at it. I have learned since then that your family are usually your worst critics. It might have been better to not tell the family about it at first but to sing it for a friend to see what he/she thinks. Then, play and sing it for the family.
I wrote the music to a song a friend had written and he liked it. This friend writes songs all the time but most of the time he writes his own music as well.
As for me, I haven't written any songs in a long time. I just haven't come up with any ideas, I guess. Kathy.

Hello singer...
So you have written a single song in your life? When I started my song was not that good. I only felt it good, though now I don't feel them really nice. But that was the beginning and the beginning is always important. If I had quit at that time, I couldn't have created many numbers till today...
Yes, like you I also don't usually sing the songs in front of my family. But about six months ago, I created a song about the feeling of a dying son to her mother, and I sang that song in front of my mother and my mother loved the song very much, both the lyrics and the music. Though music field is not a good choice that can earn a livelihood here, it could convince my mother that my song has quality to be played in public. But I am still learning, I am not really confident with my voice yet. I got lot of things to learn still. And since that song, I made few other songs, and that all of my family liked and they were in our own native language.
I don't sing mine song in front of many friends but I have a friend with who I always share each and every song though good and bad. And he is the very one, whom I mentioned above, the one who writes lyrics and then I give tune to that music.
I thing you should give a try to write also, at first it won't be very good. But if you continue on, slowly and slowly it will get better and better...
And I am very much interested to learn piano. But I am not being able to buy it. So I have planned to earn a piano via mylot earnings...Let's see how much I can manage...The real composers need piano isn't it that will give more dynamic creations...
Happy mylotting...And good luck for your music....

Good luck in earning your piano!I know this isn't a very long post but I have just been reading up on the information you guys are writing about music and you are inspiring me to want to play the piano and learn how to play the guitar too. I had bought myself a guitar at one time because i was determined to learn how to play but then I wound up giving my guitar away to my son because he had been expressing an interest in it too. So now maybe I will focus on getting a piano too. Thanks for posting and good luck with your songs everyone.

Hello shibam!!! Yes there are some people who don't really sing themselves but still can be the great composer. I hope you are one of them. And you are really lucky to get a friend to give your song the final touch. I am also glad to have a friend who write really nice lyrics for me to give the music...To have this type of combination is always rocking...
Thanks for sharing your experience...Happy mylotting...

Hello nzalheart! From your writing,I can see that you are really a music lover and love to compose!Well, there are some similiarity between you and me.I love to compose too,I start to compose song at the age of 15 and did my first song after 2 years.I do not know how to use musical instruments but I know how to create melody.Sometimes my friends just don't believe that I can create a song instant that I do not now how to use the instruments!Yeah,I'm so pround that I can do something that mostly people can't do.There are 2 ways to compose a song.First one is thst I write the lyris first, after that I will create melody for it.The second one is that I compose the melody first, later only fill in the lyris.Mostly I will ask my friends to help me complete the song with some insertment of musical instruments,if they are not free,I'll use programe called 'Guitar Pro' to create melody that I want.Great to share this with you! Happy Mylotting!!!

Hello enruschew!!!
Yeah you seem to have very much similar story like me. Like you I also used to compose the songs thought i don't really know any sort of musical instruments. So I felt my songs were never complete. I request my friends, they also couldn't do it nicely. But I got one of my song given music by my friend. I had already created melody and the lyrics too and that friend helped me with the complete lead pieces as well as the interesting beats and relevant chords.
Trying to seek others for this case is always problematic. I think you should also learn guitar. I guarantee if you learn to play some other songs, then you will be able to select the relevant chords for your song by yourself. Because you are capable in creating songs in mind means that you also have the type of music in your mind, isn't it....
The learning of guitar became very difficult to me, I have to admit. Though I had guitar in my house since so many years, I just became able to play some songs only about 6-7 months ago. But as soon as I became able to play some songs, I became able to select chords for my own songs. If you try you will surely learn the guitar in a month and at least play some of the songs in a month. I want to recommend you to learn the guitar for improving your compositions really....
I think I was less than 14 when I started to write the first song. Hey is your song recorded already. You said, you did the first song after 2 years???
I haven't learn guitar pro much. I just use it to know the formation of chords and tune my guitar. Do you know how to create music with it?
Thanks for your nice response...Best of luck for your further creations...happy mylotting...

I make my own music either by humming it when in the mood, playing it on my piano (which I am horrible with playing the piano, but I don't care), or using third party VSTi plugins in Fruity Loops Studio.
Quite frankly, I am not so great at the reading and writing music, and I have learned multiple times. But it really messes with how I truly make music - It just comes to me naturally, and I do it the way that seems best. But I always end up making good songs. At least songs that are pleasing to me, anyways! :P
I'm very instrumental based, but I do enjoy using "techno" instruments.

Hello kelpie!!! I too used Fruity loops some times. But I am not used to with using that software and still like it. Think I have to start adding drum beats through the fruity loops for my songs.
I think piano is really good instrument for the compositions. Go on playing the piano with a mood, loose one self in the pleasantness of that music and we naturally get a nice melody that hangs up in head isn't it.
Nice to hear that you end of making good songs even though you play the piano horrible. That means you play the piano less horribly than I do because I don't know how to play the piano at all lol...
Thanks for your participation in this thread...Happy mylotting..
