Do you call this working from home?

So you're on Mylot and a few other PTC or GPT type sites. Let's say you make around $100 a month or whatever. You're obviously not earning as much as you would at a real job, that's for certain.
Is this considered a "work at home" job?
To me, I don't consider it "work at home" unless you're actually making enough to pay the bills. If you sit home and work on the computer because it pays better than a job you can get out there, that's a work at home job. If one of the websites or companies you work for actually considers you an employee, and will pay you unemployment benefits if you lose that job, that's a work at home job.
What I'm doing here, chatting on Mylot, doing a few PTC sites, earning $100 or so a month, that's not working from home! Not in my opinion.
What do you think? What's your idea of working from home?

I was actually thinking about this the other day. I don't do mylot much anymore, but I have been working on my etsy site. I have made over 20 sales now. Not a substantial amount of money but I expect things to grow. I have been saying to people now that "I am starting an online business". They seem to comprehend that I am working and probably not earning much.......YET!

Yeah, that I can see. That is something that is a bit of a home based job. You're not making a measly $10 here and there from various websites. You're doing 1 thing and earning an income for it. I could consider that a work at home job.

What I would consider the situation you described as would be a stay at home mom who makes a little money on the side. Not work from home. Earning a little bit of money here and there from online sites is nice, but it is not enough to pay the bills, so you are correct. It is not working from home.

I consider working at home mother as a person working full time at home.
Extra cash is additional spare time income for staying at home mother.
My best friend named her staying at home position as "Residential manager"
I wouldn't consider making an extra cash as work at all.....

On one hand I agree with you, on the other I don't...
Let's say you have 2 kids that would require daycare if you were to go to work. And with the rising cost of daycare, you only end up making $100/month after you pay for daycare and gas. That's not totally unreasonable. I remember when my kids were in daycare, about 60% of my check paid for someone to watch my kids so I could work. That's pretty lousy. If you consider the care and nurturing they would have gotten when I was at home, it really wasn't worth it for me to work sometimes.
But now, I make a LOT more than that and my kids are grown. $100/month is just "fun" money for me. Actually, I probably make $100/quarter with my online stuff. But it does still help out and it's extra money I wouldn't normally have...

Hi katsmeow1213, No I do not that considering working from home, if you only earn about $100 a month. I might earn about $20 a month as it is. I am not really that hard working online, but, again, I have a fulltime job offline as assistance nurse for geriatric care. That do pay my bills. The Money I earn online I let it be to be used when I really need it, when it is really nessecery. Again, that will rather not happen however you never know...
As you I like chatting, writing and relax by just surfing and text typing now or then....

Same here I have a "real" Job outside of cyberspace. I think anyone who believes they can make a living on the net to support themselves is crazy. There's to many people out there ready to take your money and not give back...they're called scams. Yet whoever thinks they can then I say good luck.

this isn't my idea of working from home either, too bad myLot didn't pay a bit better then you & I would both be doing pretty well. Really it's more like a hobby than anything, though we are out to make some money but one can't always count on when we'll be rolling in any of it.
THough I do think Kat if you are making $100/mo that's doing pretty good. I"m excited to make my $10 payout on here every month, except last month *sigh*

My idea of working from home is.That the person sits at home and makes money. No matter he makes less or more money he is still making money from the comforts of his home.Yes we are not paid like we get paid in the full time jobs. But people starting these kind of jobs from the age of eighteen with the full time job can have more savings in their bank accounts.

I agree with you. Working at home is when you're aiming to earn enough to pay the bills. I'm never going to earn enough to be more than a nice bit of pocket money on here, so I couldn't call it 'work'. It's fun with a bonus of a bit of cash at the end of the month.

I think it can be. I think if you make enough that you have to claim it on your income tax at the end of the year, then I would consider it working from home. I am trying to pump up my online writing enough that I can pull in some more money. But I also sell used books on online and make what I would make at any part time job doing that, and I also do a lot of online sites too. I consider the combination of it all working from home.

I have the potential to make that much, I've only done it once actually. I'm on Mylot, Ciao, Neobux, Clixsense, Mypoints, Mysurvey... and a few others. The biggest money maker for me though has been ChaCha. That's the one I made $100 on. I can normally do $20 a month on Mylot.

I consider paying my bills on line while at home, a "work at home" job. $100 a month is more of a hobby and just some spend money. My focus is to truly work from home full time which means paying all of my bills and having extra spend money. I think people tend to forget what paying "all" the bills mean and that would include your health insurance and your life insurance and possibly your 401K/IRA. That is what you would normally find in a full time job. When people want to work from home, they just look at the surface and not the deeper scale. Just my thoughts. I have not reached that time yet unfortunately and still surfing the net to see it. Found a few things but really need to sift out the legit sites from the scammers. That is what this site is great for, all the feedback that people can give each other. Good luck to you.

Well, if does pay a few of my bills that are smaller and I am able to buy household items that are needed and stuff when my husband is out of work. I actually do call it work sometimes. Otherwise my husband would call it lallygagging around on the computer all day. I don't make $100 a month but would love too..I only make anywhere between $10-$50 a month all depending on my payouts at certain sites. I consider it a part time job for me since I can't actually get a real job with my disabilities I have right now.

I agree with you. I don't consider this working from home, although sometimes it really feels like work. I spend hours doing this and only for a few dollars a day. But, I enjoy it. It is more like a hobby to me, though. I wish this could be a real job making more money. I would love that!

I believe it depends on how much money you need! For me, making $100/month is plenty. I am still in college- and my family is paying for the classes. So, because of this, $100 would be enough to pay for books/ food every once in awhile. So I suppose it would be a matter of opinion and situation.

It's not work really it's more like internet stuff that brings in a little extra cash. I lost my job last monday and filed my first claim for unemployment and did not claim any of my sites I make money on. Plus, my real job is lokking for a job and this is stilla side thing just as it was when I was employed full time. So I do not consider it a job in any way, just a bonus.

Like wasinperez (or whatever his name is) said, it's not a lot but it is income. I'm enjoying it here at mylot even though it doesn't pay very much. In the meantime, I'm lookig for something to supplement my SSI check. No, I don't consider what I'm making here on mylot working from home because it's such a small amount. Every little bit helps, though. Kathy.

Well first of all i'd like to know how to make $100 a month. I've just started this and ive made a total of 6 cents in a week my goal for a month is going to be $10 dollars but for now i don't even know how to make that much. But in reply to the question i would consider it working at home because you work and your at home. It's like homework you can't call it homework if you do it on the bus.
