VERY VERY Frustrated!

I have been increasingly frustrated with Chase credit card company.
I have two credit cards with this company. One I have had for over six years back when it was Washington Mutual, which I loved until they merged with Chase. The other I got as a result of purchasing on Amazon.com and decided to get the credit card almost two years ago for some bonuses and whatnot...
Recently I decided to write a cash advance check for $300 because I had an extra bill to pay this month and wanted to make sure I had plenty of cash in my bank account... Two days later I get a call from the fraud department of Chase. Mind you, I always pay my account off early and do not have a high balance, and I use the card regularly so it's not as though it hasn't been in use or anything. They said there was suspected fraud on my account so I talked to them and cleared it up right away saying I did write the check, etc.
They decided to decline the check anyway.
I DO UNDERSTAND a credit card cash advance check may be declined at any time, but I have over $2000 available in my account and wrote a check for $320. Two days later I get a call saying there is suspected fraud on my account. I called immediately and spoke to a representative.
My check was returned unpaid, which is fine, but, because of this, I have incurred a fee from my bank which I don't think is fair. I tried calling people at Chase and telling them why I feel this way:
* I have a good history of uses and payments with this card
* I have never had fraud on my account
* I called the fraud department right away as soon as I received their recorded message to clear up the situation.
I don't think I should be responsible for paying any fees I was charged from my bank because of this and am seriously considering closing my account. I know others have had problems with this company and they have also been raising interest rates, which would be fine if it were the ONLY problem... But of course there are several others, so I am very very frustrated right now I just want to scream! UGH!

ask for the ambudsman's office for the back and see if the credit card company has one as well. I had to do that to clear up a dispute with my back, and believe me it was cleared up fast once the ombudsman got involved.

Uh oh. I'm sorry about your frustrations.
My mom helped me open my first checking account with WaMu just a couple months ago. I really don't know anything about credit or banking, so when I heard they're becoming Chase I didn't really know what differences there'd be. To hear your distase for Chase worries me. XD

Sounds like an absolute disaster. I know that you live in the US so things are different sp I am not even going to give my opinion on it to much. But over here I know what someone would do is contact the local newspaper. In most papers there is someone that contacts these companies and tries to resolve the persons situation and tries to get them some compensation so maybe you should think about that. Good luck.

Hi, Bethany! Sorry to hear about your credit card woes. I suggest you stop using credit cards and switch to prepaid debit cards. I have done so and have had no problems. Credit card companies put the burden of managing one's account, even from their end, squarely on the consumer. The credit card companies usually win in the end so I decided to leave them behind for prepaid debit cards. What you should do is scream, scream and scream some more and then try to reach resolution with them; if that fails, report them to BBB so other consumers will have the opportunity to know how they conduct business; you may save someone else a scream fest.

Sounds good, thanks for the tips. I have already contacted a supervisor who doesn't seem to care, even after I told them I plan to pay off and cancel the card immediately, so maybe I should report them to BBB! Great thinking!

roberten - you are right and I don't get it. Course for me not to get it is nothing... why don't the credit card companies get it? I mean.. they gave credit to anyone... those "anyones" bottomed out... so they had to pick up the slack.. okay fine, but don't make your "good" customers pay the price cause if the "good" customers were intelligent enough to make themselves the "good" customer, don't the CC companys have any thought as to the possiblity that those "good" customers obvuiously know how to take care of themselves so once they have their interest rate hiked outrageously high, or have problems like this discussion it is talking about.. don't they think those "good" customers are going to take their toys and go home? Talk about jumping from the frying pan into the fire... for heaven sake...why are they literally killing off the "good"customers that hold the life of the company right now? The "bad" ones are gone, and soon all the "good" ones will be to.. a product with no customers, doesn't make much a profit!!!
I have 2 WAMU/Chase credit cards. one has had zero balance for awhile. The other I just paid it off all but $100. So far, I have not had a notice of increase of interest, however, since I only use them for emergencies... I'll probably keep them "just in case". I have a Capital One card and they sent notice that they are going from 14.99% to 23.99%. That card is going in the safe!!!
I heard on Suze Orman.. don't close the accounts, leave them open just don't use the card as the credit limit on the open accounts is where they derive alot of the basis for your FICO score. FICO is based on "credit limits" vs. "credit used"... kind of like the home mortgage qualify thing of DTI - debt to income ratio. If you have a high credit limit... but aren't using it... your FICO will be higher

I ised to bank with Chase. I stopped when the bank I was at refused to wave the fees I incurred when my card was stolen. I called and canceled my card within an hour of it being missing but I was at a mall and there had already been charges. In my experiance they are horrible at what they do, I am sorry that you are having problems with them.
They are only doing it because you actually pay your bills with them and so they make no money off of you.

Well I do have a low balance with them so they are making a small amount of interest each month, but I am getting more and more frustrated and very angry. They are horrible at customer service and satisfaction.
I'm sorry you also had a bad experience with them. I am hoping to spread the word so some people might think twice before signing up with them and using their products/services!!

That's about the same way I ended up losing my bank account. I was with capital one though. I was and credit card doing all of my banking on line card payments. I only had a balance of 600, and they kept randomly changing my payment due date, so I woul be late. I missed it one time and they tripled my debt by ballooning the apr. It eventually became too much to pay and now i've got over 3500 in debt to them and have to set a court date. I personally think they purposefully set people up to fail. I'd be more then happy to pay the original debt.

I'm so sorry to learn that your having trouble with Chase credit card company. I have card with them and have never had any trouble. Have had it for about 10 years now. My interest is at .03 but then I have never tried to write a check for the cash either. In fact last month they were allowing me to skip a payment. But I didn't .

That is terrible to hear and I hope that things will get sorted out for you. It wasn't your mistake so you shouldn't have to pay the extra charge to the bank. In my home country credit card companies like to have complicated rules and an extensive list of extra charges.
I went to South Africa and whilst there asked a banking machine to give me 2,000 rand. I just got an advice slip and not any money. A shop assistant kindly took me to the bank. They rang my bank in England who thought it was fraud. Of course it wasn't and I soon go the money from my account I needed.
Good luck.

I am sorry to hear that. It sounds very unfair though I know nothing about the Chase. You must be an American. We don't use the credit card so often! I hope everything will be better!

I would drop them and stop using credit cards all together, its guilt by association, they don't want to loose any more money than they have to so they will treat everybody like a criminal. They didn't have to move into California territory and when they did they chose the customers who make the good ones look bad. Fight for the fees and then leave them, don't wait for an apology, you won't get it.

UGH! Sorry to hear about all this. We have two Chase cards that used to be Washington Mutual also.So far, we haven't had any problems since the switch. We had Chase as the mortgage holder on our last house also, with no problems. I'm not sure they are one and the same though...maybe different divisions of the same corp.
I hope you can get it all straightened out. Good luck.

I agree with you, I would fight them tooth and nail... or at least threaten to leave. there are plenty of credit card companies out there, you don't need to put up with that kind of treatment. I had a similar frustration with my cc once. The company suspected fraud so they put a hold on my account. I guess that it is nice in some ways, but it was very inconvenient to find this out on black Friday. My shopping cart was full of bargains that were about to expire, people were waiting behind me in line. In the end their "fraud protection" cost me BIG BUCKS that Christmas.

Hello my friend Bethany1202 Ji,
Before it gets very late, better close the account and snap all relations with such
bankers. May God bless You and have a great time.
