Has someone ever scolded or teased you for watching anime?

Most people who are ignorant about anime think that all anime is, is just pokemon and pokemon rip-offs, stuff for little kids to watch when they wake up on Sunday morning so in many cases when you tell someone ignorant that you are watch anime he'll think pokemon or something and tell you to grow up or just go ahead and let everyone know that you watch stuff for elementary school children. Either that or he'll tell to go watch football or something...
So has this happenned to you? If so, by whom?
For example my parents always tell me to grow up and stop watching anime...and I hate that.

Yeah, my parents noticed once or twice that I'm watching anime ("cartoons" as they say...) and told me to stop wasting my time watching cartoons, that they're for kids... and said I should be doing something more useful... I tried to explain to them what anime means and that it's NOT for kids only (actually some aren't for kids AT ALL!) But they didn't understand... So now whenever I wanna watch anime I just make sure they're not around cause it's annoying to keep hearing the same thing...

No, I never even watched it myself. I heard about it though... What is it about? Is it horror or someting... with a lot of blood?
They saw me watching Naruto... :) I remember that once my mom happened to pass by just when I was watching a scene with some fights... and she was like "Ugh! How can you watch this stuff!" :D yeah that was funny lol

They tell me that stuff too but I have no problem to watch it in front of them, I just make them watch a minute or two so they can know that what I'm watching isn't something "for kids"...ever tried watching Hellsing Ultimate with your mom? Try it, its fun ;]

Yeah Hellsing has a lot of blood and severed heads, arms, legs and whatnot, weird thing is that my mother actually likes that stuff...ok not all the time but she doesn't really have a problem about it, she watches horror movies too sometimes lol.

A LOT. Seriously.
It's like watching anime is a crime, or at least here in our office. Either they will scorn you for watching kid stuff (which is not, because I'm watching Ecchi Anime), or laugh at you for being immature.
They think watching anime (and cartoons) makes you immature, and then telling you to "grow up". Meh. Watching sitcoms and reality shows doesn't make you a mature person, or in any way more (mature) than us.
Everyone has their own preferences, I watch anime because I admire the Japanese' artwork. I simply love them (and I wish I could draw like that too!). Also, their interesting and once you watch an episode or two, you might like it too. But people here are really close-minded...
I don't care though. I'll still watch anime until I grow tired of it (which will be a long, long time). :)

I'm lucky I guess because in my school the only thing my classmates say to me is "otaku" and is just once in a while, only when the conversation leads to it or all of a sudden a teacher starts talking about anime (yeah something very normal xd). And the good thing is they don't say it in a despective way, it's more like joking. One of my closest friends even went to a convention with me, and she didn't see anime at all. In that sense, they are all open-minded, with a certain limit but open-minded in the end.
I think that it's because, in my country, most of people who have now my age (around 16) used to see anime when they were kids because it was shown frequently on TV, so they aren't completely ignorant about the topic.

My parents always tell me the same things too. I get to hear the same thing coming from them every now and then that I guess I am already immune to it. I am glad that I have a few friends, female and male, who watch animes too =)

I have been watching anime since before it had a name. Believe me you haven't live until you go into a video store and tried to explain what Ramama 1/2 was or been told your part of a cult or something. Or out of your mind.
Trust me no matter what you watch or do someone will not like it anime is just an easy target. Everyone thinks you have to do what they do to grow up, truth is you can be responsible and still enjoy anime. I took my niece to an anime convention with me when she was a baby. She and I both enjoyed ourselves.
By the way I'm old, very responsible adult and anime manga and comics have always helped me deal with stress.
