I live in buffalo ny (just moved here last summer) so its basically cold during winter. This year I would love to have some flowers surounding the house. But I have the one side of the house that seems to have no sun or I can tell that nothing will grow. Can anybody please tell me what kind of flower I can plan in the area where is is not much sun? Thank you.

Try columbines. They grow in shade and they don't mind the cold. (They're the state flower of Colorado and grow in the mountains here.) You might think about ferns, too, if you're not set on a flowering plant. Ferns can be quite pretty.

Go to a nurseru near your home. They should know best. But I think that for cold winters, bulbs are the thing, Check for liliums, daffodils, fraesia. Besides that, you can start plants indoors and transplant them In late spring. I hope this helps
