I must tell this as delicately as I can. First of all, I am a fairly intelligent almost middle aged woman who has learned a thing or two over the years. There are things I know like the back of my hand but there are times when, like I did as child I like to take shortcuts so I'll test the waters.
Due to two rounds of anitbiotic treaments, I developed a yeast infection in my (you figure it out. Being a very uncomfortable and short on money I decided to use a product I already had at home....clalmine lotion. Yes I knew better in my head but at the time it seemed like a good idea. Well a week later and one ER visit that lasted 5 1/2 hours, a new even worse infection that has gone through other parts of my body, stronger and nasty antibiotics to combat the now new infection, pain and weakness my brilliant idea did not seem so brilliant afterall. Why do smart people do dumb things? Do you ever do things that you know you should not do, only to regret it later?

Oh my God, I can't imagined what you went thru. Yes I have a story for you. I have OCD - I like things clean and in their place. One day while taking a shower the fan that is in the wall was unplugged. So I thought unplugged no electricity right? WRONG! I open the fan to clean it - you know kill two birds with one stone LOL LOL LOL well needless to say I had a big shock. Thank God I'm able to laugh about it now. Plus I learn something don't touch anything but the water in the shower! LOL LOL LOL

I have experienced the shocking to. We were painting our house and had all the electrical outlet covers off in one room. So I had a redio plugged in and went to unplug it and it pulled the outlet out of the wall. So I figured I would rip the wires out if I kept pulling. So, I just walked over and grabbed both sides of the plug and got shocked so bad!!!! I felt like an idiot.

I feel kinda dumb right now but I did not know you could get shocked if something was not plugged in. Where does the electricity come from? I have been shocked before, it was along time ago and I don't recall the circumstances but I do remember it did not feel good and I never wanted to feel it again!

LOL I've done the big shock thing myself. Not in the shower but just as stupid. I was a teenager walking in the wet grass in my bathing suit on a hot summer day. My brother was working on the family vehicle and needed the trouble light. I got it for him plugged in and everything. I noticed on my way that the metal part right under the bulb was coming out of the rubber insulator so I grabbed it to push it back in place. My brother says my eyes lit up.

LOL! I hope that you are able to laugh about this. That really is the best thing to do now that it has been done!
I think that we all do stupid things sometimes. I remember one time I was welding something together. I noticed after I had started that it wasnt quite how I wanted it. So I grabbed it to try to move it a bit. I ended up with pretty nasty blisters on my fingers. I knew better, I really did. But I just didnt think it through before I did it!
I hope you are feeling much better now that you have the antibiotics!

LMAO. I know how you both fell. I had to share this with you derilila. I was using a cutting torch one day and cutting a piece of flat steel into small pieces, so I get all done and decide to gather up all the pieces. I had some blisters too. Because the first piece that I grabbed was the last piece I had cut. LOL I knew better to but was not thinking about it. I was just thinking about how I needed the pieces of steel I had just cut.
Now this one I did not know better on. I was welding and did not have nothing to cover up with and put on my robe and it had like a V neck. When I got done I was so burnt that it was not funny. STUPID of me. I know better know though.

V-necks will get you every time! My husband and I had gone to the shooting range. I had on a tshirt that had a small V-neck - so only a little bit of skin was showing. One of the shells managed to hit me just right, burn me and then fall down my shirt. Thankfully it only burned on the first touch!! I never would have thought about that happening, now I know.

I do not know much about welding (which is probably a good thing), but the thing I can agree with is this: " I knew better to but was not thinking about it. I was just thinking about how I needed the pieces of steel I had just cut. " or in my case, instant relief. I can laugh about it now but this was a very valuable and painful lesson. My father says the school of hard knocks is the best teacher

LMFAO.... sorry but i can't help but laugh.. But well it does make me remember something. Once while cooking i had to attend a phone. When i came back i saw that the dish was on fire. My immediate response was to put water on the fire. I had completely forgotten that you can't put out oil fires with water. What results was that the flames suddenly leaped sky high and i got several minor burns on my hand. Thank god that was the worst of it and the whole kitchen didn't catch fire. Smart people do sometimes make stupid mistakes

Wow ,that could have been a complete disaster! I am sorry you got burned at all but I'm glad it was not worse. I have had many dishes myself that I forgot about and while cooking and though I never had a fire I have had a lot of smoke and messed up pans.

Everytime one of my electronic equipment has something broken, I try to fix it myself. And everytime I say to myself "You should stop, you know you're going to make it worse". But I never learn. And I also consider myself fairly intelligent.
I guess it's our incapacity of admitting to ourselves that we can't do and make everything work, so we really need to learn it the hard way :P

Yes sometimes it so hard to admit when we don't know something or we try things thinking they are going to work but we end up with disatrous results. This was really the hard for me, as this is the worse infection I have ever had. It felt like every fiber of my body hurt. Though I am still taking treament I feel better now and I don't ever want to feel like that again.

Bad thing is those are the things that we remember the most. I remember when we bought our electrical fence box and hooked it up. I never read the directions. I knew that if you touched it that it would shock you but I did not know that if you pulled grass that was touching it that it would throw you backwards. I saw grass on it and squatted down to pull it and when I touched it I was literally thrown backwards.
I remember when my daughter was 4 we went to someones house and they had a huge electrical fence box in their house in the floor. And my daughter went to the bathroom and started screaming that the black box bit her. She knows to this day that those things bite bad!!!

I would like to quote GB Shaw here: " A life spent doing mistakes is not more honorable but more useful than a life spent doing nothing" This doesn't of course mean you need to commit mistakes all the time. Whenever something goes wrong, I say this out loud and this gives me some positive energy. Please don't be so harsh on yourself! It's okay to do some not-so-smart things once in a while! ;)

Rampant, that is a great quote. I do tend to stay on the safe rather than aventurous side of life and so I have less chance of making mistakes but I surely don't want to make another one like this one!
Anirudi, it is funny that you bring up the different modes of healing. The ironic thing about this story is normally I would use the most potent allopathic medicine (the 1 time use stuff) and I would seen some relief probably in one day. Since I now trying to use more natural and homeopathic products I chose a homeopathic yeast product that you have to use for 10 days. I by the third day I was not prepared for the intensity of the itch (some of you know what I'm talking about) and was not patient enough to research and find something less toxic to calm the that feeling.

I basically am here to say something related to the topic. There are three basic things when it comes to medicine is concerned:-
1)allopathy:-
This mode of medication is possible the fastest of all and has a quite a hefty amount of side effects. This is suitable only for certain type of people who's natural instincts can over come the side effects. And whats even more worse is that these disease can regenarate even after the treatment appart from side effects.(i tell u this cuz i had the same problem.)
2)homeopathy:-
This mode of medication is quite good and has a very little side effects.
3)ayurveda:-
the slowest but the steadiest method of cure.we the products of nature, are getiing cured by natural elements and has absolutely no side effects and mind it... SLOW
thanks for allowing me to express something on this topic.

Once I lived with this couple and we were out on the patio and theres this big beetle and it looked a lot like a stag beetle when I was growing up and they were everywhere because I lived in the woods. It was similar but different because it had these two horns and because stag beetles never bite I just assumed it was ok. My roommate was all freakin out so me trying to be a showoff just picks it up puts it on my palm but eventually it locked its two 'horns' on the skin of own of my fingers and the GRIP of the beetle, let me tell you!! So my roommate is freakin out EVEN MORE because now the beetle is stuck on me and Im trying to pull it off but it was so tight. OMG,lol, me and her boyfriend had to take a fork to pry his jaws of life open. It was pinching me for a good ten minutes but I hardly felt anything after we got it off. Her boyfriend thought I was crazy afterwards and his girlfriend probably had a story to tell (didn't encourage any appreciation of nature, thats for sure, lol), they were both from New York City.

I cannot imagine what I would have done. I would have been freaking out, especially when I could not get the beetle off. I just wonder how you were able to pull on the beetle without squishing it. I am a city girl myself but I have an appreciation for most of nature....I just can't get into the insects.

I hope now that this ordeal is done you are able to laugh at it now. I have never ever thought of doing something like that. For yeast infections my mom told me yogurt helps it. I have done this on a few occasions and it cleared up.

the sad part about this is that you did it because you were short on money and needed medical treatment. no one should have to go without medical treatment or compromise because they are short on money. i hope you feel better really soon and i am sorry you had to go through all of that.

Yes money has been so tight that we think do sometimes have to think outside the box to get things done. A friend of mine who is very into homeopathy gave me a product to try that I guess I just was not prepared for and when the symptoms got worse I tried to improvise. Not the best idea.

Too much take of anti biotic would really caused Feminine itch (yeast). That's what i have read on the internet. But if you used Calamine lotion there, ohh my, very bad. I am sure you have learned your lesson about this incident.
What i do know about Calamine is good to battle skin bacteria. But used only on facial skin. I used a calamine cream for my face which battles oiliness on my face and it was really a good stuff.
But i haven't heard about putting calamine cream there . If you would take anti biotic, it should be properly Advised by your Doctor. Happy mylotting!
