Folic acid in pregnancy

Folic acid is a crucial vitamin needed for the proper growth of your baby's brain and spinal cord. It is a proven scientific fact that the development of brain starts very early in the fetal development. Hence women need to be cautious enough to take a folic acid rich diet or vitamin supplements at least 3 months before becoming pregnant.
Rich sources of folates include spinach, beetroot, fermented foods, peas, lentils, and walnuts.
So ladies... do remember to consume recipes regularly made of these foods...

Hi there,
Yes, Folic Acid is one of the vitamins that is needed and important in pregnancy. It helps support the placenta and prevents spina bifida and other neural tube defects. It needs to be in the system at the time of conception, so it is recommended to take folic acid before starting to conceive. As with all B Vitamins, Folic Acid also improves low sperm counts. The Recommended daily intake for it is 400mcg.
You can also get folic acid in some of the food sources of it, including Oranges, Orange juice, Strawberries, Green Leafy Vegetables, Spinach, Beets, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Fortified Cereals, Peas, Nuts, Pasta and Beans.
