Have you done volunteer work? If so, what kind was it?

I have done volunteer work at a home for the aged, at my church, and with children. It always makes me feel good to help others in the best ways I can. I have health issues now which don't allow me to be very active physically, so I donate food, clothing, and a bit of money when I can to charities about which I am passionate, especially against child abuse and poverty. Most of us want to make a big difference in the world for good, but making any effort we can is something. Have you done volunteer work? What kind?

i have done a lot of volunteer work, I first work at a hospital in their emergency room, then I was in what I would call social service clubs and worked with children and for the Red Cross now I cannot do much because my health doesn't let me be stable some days I can't get out of bed so no one can count on me, including me.

Fibro is my problem also and it's so unpredictable, the only thing that helps is YOGA for me.

Ack, and I'm sorry. My body has "betrayed" me, too, with fibromyalgia, but I grasp the good days. You were extremely active, though, in volunteering when you could. Very gratifying, yes? Thank you for you comments, Pat, and be as well as can be. Karen

Gentle exercise also helps me, Pat. I think through the years, we stumble on things that help us every bit as much or moreso as the medical community. Hugs!

Hi karen :) I've been an active volunteer during my early years in college.. Been active in church in which we conduct functions from time to time. We visit the crippled, the poor, the elderly, and it really feels great to serve others through your abilities or just by being there for them. I really don't know if they also feel good being visited, but as much as possible we try not to show pity towards these people. But yeah those people were really fun because despite their condition, they still enjoy life to the fullest. I've been also an active teacher in young kids in our church. Every Sunday afternoon we conduct at least an hour session with storytelling and recount of charity works each week and it was really funny to hear from these kids that they have helped their parents in household chore that week or helped a classmate with their assignment;-and each good deed is counted and the kid who has many number of good deeds in a week will be rewarded with a round of applause haha :) I remember that we also assign each kids to tell a story of a saint every Sunday and explain what they have learned from that saint :) At school I've also been an active member of our course organization and since I'm an art student, every month we plan to create activities which will help my co-art students do better in art. :) It's either through workshops or contests. Recently I also joined a local writers' group and each month we have our free critiquing sessions and literary clinics to further develop our interest in writing. It really feels good to serve God through the best of your faculties. :) Even though sometimes I feel like pressured or exhausted, it's fun doing these things for God anyway. :)

What wonderful things you are doing. I am sure those visited did appreciate it. Some who are disabled or in special homes receive no visitors or correspondence at all. I think it is great that you are getting children involved. It will most likey carry over into their adult years. Service is a way to make our own lives and the lives of others much happier, so I commend you. Karen

Yes but I don't remember all the moments but only those I captures long before, we were a group of youngsters who were helping other children who had suffered from the storm, their houses were destroyed and we felt sorry, the state was doing the important work but in the meantime we were assisting the people who were injured and desperate. I love what I was doing and it is always a pleasure to meet those people again after the situation.

It is wonderful to see how many people pitch in and help others during a time of natural disasters. It is as important as what the govt. does, so kudos to you and your friends who did that. Karen

when i was in college i have done a lot of volunteer work... in mission, and in church. i was a sunday school teacher and did some youth group outreach too. in mission, we went to places and distribute goods to those poor people. i have never been to home for the aged, but i want to go there sometimes... we went also to an institution for those who are mentally retarded and gave gifts to them, that was when my mom was working for a direct selling company, and i went with here when they did that volunteering.
