I have a phobia about mice, so I guess rats would be in the same line! It is not that I don't like them, but have this "thing" about them!

Disgusting creatures really .... carry vermin and germs .... my oldest daughter had one till we made her get rid of it. didn't want it around young grandson .... daugher is not really careful about some things ... better to be safe than sorry with young grandson around. Niece also has some .... keeps them in the loungeroom so brother and s-i-l tell us. It might depend on how well they are looked after .... but for most people .... no way to rats or even mice as pets.

oldboy i wouldn`t have them around if not for the snake who eats them .But infact rats are cleaner than cats and they carry no diseases not like a cat who carries the dreaded toxoplasmosis virus which is contracted to humans and can effect the development of an unborn child if contracted by the mother

When I was young I used to want one... They are okay... I think I would rather have a bunny rabbit though:)

Rabbits are great. I have one named Olivia. She's litterbox trained too.

Rats are not beautiful creatures. i do not like them one bit. they are big, dirty, hairy, stinky and I would never have one for a pet. the worse ones are the hairless rats. Yuck! How anyone could think a hairless rat is beautiful is beyond me. The only thing I like is when they run in their wheels. Stupid rats. I do not like rats.

I heard that they make great pets, and are very intellegent. I have two cats, so I don't think it would be a good idea.

Actually domestic rats are quite clean, it's the wild rats have given them a bad reputation that they don't deserve. Pet rats actually carry less diseases than pet dogs and cats and they are also very clean as they are constantly grooming themselves.
