I am confused. Why will you earn more on Mylot by learning to type without looking at the keyboard?

Thanks Dhawan :)
And Sharla, what are we doing here on mylot? The source of communication here is only via typing so if you are a good typist and you manage to type fast than it won't be a problem for you to reply on more and more topics everyday and by doing that you are going to make lots of money ;) isn't it? I hope you got that now :)

i learnt at school how to write without look at keyboards.
at that time there wasn't a pc, but just a typewriter machine, but it has been
usefull too.
i'm very speed and i'm able to typewrite and talk at the same time.
my collegues told me that this is very strange!!!

Hi.
I can type both ways, but prefer typing by looking at the keyboard. It is this way that I can achieve maximum speed. If I do it the other way around, I speed declines as much as 45%.
This way I make less mistakes as well.

My posting count is nothing seeing your speed.
It has been almost 4 years I joined here and you have half of the number in front of your name in just 3 weeks!
I guess you must be typing at a much better speed then me.

I type looking at the computer. But,I really am not looking on the screen to see if I made a mistake. I know the keyboard without having to look at the keyboard to type.

I don't look at the keyboard because I don't have to. I am a very fast & adequate typist. I know the keys on the keyboards without looking at the keys.

Well I always type looking at the screen. To be honest, I do type so many things that now, putting my hand over the keyboard, I can practically feel which key is where. It's just a matter of practice and patience. It does take a lot of time to master this but believe me, once you get hold of it, there nothing fun than tying while sitting infront of the computer.

I type without looking at the keyboard and have been doing so long enough to 'feel' a mistake when it's made.

I type looking at the screen. I remember my first days on a computer, I was a very slow typer and had to always look at the keyboard. Back then I was jealous of how fast my older cousin could type, it was amazing! (or so I thought at the time). Now I'm pretty much at the same level as her.
I think the longer a person works with computers, the more familiar everything gets to them. If they put their mind into it, of course. If your not very interested in computers, or barely use them, then I think you'll type slower/looking at the keyboard more.
One way I learned to type without looking: just type. Find the hand positions that feels comfortable for you(I don't place my hands where the "professionals" say you should when typing!), then just type. Look at the screen, and type. If you type the wrong letter, keep trying to find the correct letter, without looking. This will train your sub/conscious to automatically know where each letter is on the keyboard. It's all in your mind!!

I'm not yet that expert when it comes to typing.
But somehow, I can type now without looking at the keyboard but still wouldn't be considered as good enough. LOL ^_^
Some day, I'm hoping that I would have master the use of the keyboard, typing fast without any look at it. ^_^

I type looking at the screen. Looking at the keys confuses me because I type so fast. It also slows you down to look at the keys. Once you have them memorized you will be able to type alot faster and you wont have to look at the keys and then look at the screen to see that you made a mistake.

Ya, one of the way to test or measure our typing skills is to time how many words we can type in a given time period, and also typing all the words in one go without mistakes. For me, i didn't learn or take up any course in typing skills. I learn typing by myself and through continuous practice in typing. I usually will try not to look at the keyboard now while typing. But this will usually make me type slower and sometimes with typing mistakes. Of course when u type and look at the keyboard, i can type without mistakes but i think this is the process of learning and not the profesional ways, haha. I hope in the future i can type without looking at the keyboard and type without mistakes. Wow, i think that will be cool, haha.

The only time I look at the keyboard is if I'm typing a number or shifting and putting in something like an ampersand (&) or other things like that. Otherwise, looking at the keyboard messes me up horribly. I don't even do it if I make a mistake on one of the words.

When I am typing thoughts out of my head, I always look at the computer screen. That way I can make sure I am typing everything right. It is much easier to do as I am typing rather than having to read over it!
If I am typing something that was previously written, I look at that document. I only look at the computer screen occassionally to make sure my fingers didnt slip. I hate when I type gibberish!
Now if only I could come up with a way to get my fingers to move as fast as my thoughts!
