My I have been a bust bee as I have just finished decorating my younger daughters bedroom. It was originally white walls and three of those had grafitti on them from everyone that ever visits our house and concert tickets in clip frames (the grafitti on the white walls was in black marker, pink paint or silver spray) and last week I found a perfect wallpaper for the fourth wall black grafitti wallpaper with the grafitti being in believe it or not white pink and silver. It looks fantastic especially as her furniture is all in silver and black too. Room still very light and spacious because of the three white walls. Not only did I find the perfect paper but it was only a third of the price of most heavy decent papers. Really pleased with myself as I haven't hung wallpaper in a while. What was your last DIY project and was it successful? Please share. Huggles. Ellie :D

The room sounds gorgeous, Ellie! (I bet you keep peeking in and feeling pleased when you go past the door!) I remember letting our youngest daughter paint and decorate her room when she was about 19 - she chose turquoise walls, lilac trim, and had a narrow, gold timber beading around the bottom of the cornice. She had turquoise curtains with gold painted patterns, a purple doona with gold hearts ... it was/is a very bright and funky room! Strangely, she actually only lived in it for a few weeks, and then moved into a farmhouse with her fiance ... so we still have that room, and our daughters stay in it when they visit! (Must admit, I can't wait to get it back to a more traditional state before we put the house on the market ...)

Hi Guybrush, Your daughters bedroom does sound rather bright especially against the black of my daughters. Funnily enough my daughter was only here for a while after the bedroom originally done as she was made redundant and the only job she could find was in the same town as her father lives so she stays there during the week. She thinks her room is fantastic though and I do peek LOL and even slept in there one night as the black curtains stopped me waking too early as the sun very bright in my room from about 4 in the morning. wow sounds absolutely wonderful. I never decorated my rooms like that before, I am not much of a decorator I like to write but I do not have that kind of artists talent though.

Hi Winterose, You are just so creative with your writing though, an amazing talent. I am pleased that the room came out well especially as I haven't hung paper for a while. Deciding which is the next one to decorate, either the kitchen or my bedroom I think. Huggles. Ellie :D

My last project was curtain making for most windows in my home...there are a lot of windows! I also painted my room. Once, it would have taken me a couple of days...a day for each coat...it took me a week! I was in so much pain because I was having to use steps for the high bits and my knees hurt when I go up and down. I also had to bend to get to the low bits because I cannot kneel down. It was not as good a job as I have done previously. If I had not done it then it would still not be done...the mistakes are barely noticeable - it's only me that sees them. How great that you found that wall paper...that's a bit spooky actually, that you found something to match the wall you created yourselves. Does your daughter love it? Hugz sweety..xx

Hi MsTickle that must be really awkward because of your kness so well done you for actually doing it yourself. I have slowed down a bit too, I remember wallpapering a bedroom years back whilst my daughter was at nursery but this time just for one wall it took me over two days. Very spooky perhaps the designer was one of her ex mates and picked up on the idea who knows. I buy ready made curtains as the one thing I really cannot do is sew, not even a button. huggles. It was a year ago when I did my dining room......but with vacation coming up I have a project in mind.....painting my stairwell to the up stairs..It seriously needs to be done. Then I plan on doing my bedroom....new carpet etc. I finally found someone to help me though....as I need to rip out the carpet and do a few other odds and ends to complete the project. Sounds like her room is very pretty!

Hi Jill, I remember you doing the dining room last year but the stair well is a major and one I will put off as I haven't got the safety ladders to reache the ceiling up the stairs and last time I painted I taped a paintbrush to a long pole but the cutting in was a nightmare and may save up to get someone in for that one. Sounds like you will be keeping busy, glad you have help though. Huggles. Ellie :D

The room sounds cool. When it's done you might consider putting a picture up here at myLot. I think it's awesome that you can hang wallpaper. I've seen comedies of people trying to hang wallpaper and getting it all botched up. (I think it was "I Love Lucy".)

Hi Littleowl, I haven't hung wallpaper in a while but it is not too bad to do and this one other than the paper being very heavy was okay as I didn't have to match up as edges were just plain black. My daughter here now and really pleased with the result. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi ellie333 Well done you! When do you want to come around and help me do mine? I am useless at DIY. Have lived in my house nearly 2 years and it hasn't had as much as a lick of paint! I have put some tile transfer tiles in the kitchen and bathroom but that is about it. A friend of mine has offered me some left over red paint to do a wall in my dining area so I am waiting for her to bring that around and rope her in to helping me do it!! Hope all is well with you X

Hi Humbug, Well just shout when you need me and I will drive up and give you a hand, I have always had to do my own decorating but it has been a while since I put paper up but I have done a pretty good job. I am gradually working through the house but this room is now complete, even laid a new carpet in there a couple of weeks ago, that was hard work but worth it. Been in a dip recently but things looking up again thanks, big huggles. Ellie :D

What an excellent idea for decorating children's rooms, no matter what their ages! Would be good for boys too, just with a different color than pink. Now I wish my son was younger, I'd love to do it in his room. Oh heck! I'd like to be younger and have MY room that way! Looking forward to pictures when you get familiar with your new camera!

Hi Catdla, Wherever we have lived my daughter has always been allowed to have at least one wall in her room where they can write poems, comments and draw pictures and each house we have moved from we have taken a picture and then had it enlarged and it goes as a picture on the new wall. It is interesting readfing some of the comments and dates and also to see over the years who we are all still in contact with and if you stick to either just a black pen on white or a couple of colours no others it looks effective and not messy. Once I find out how to use the camera I will upload some pictures LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D

I tried to do an accent wall. My living room is painted off white. I watched a show on TV (not good) and it looked so easy. I decided to paint the wall behind my TV. I went to the store and choose a color and painted the wall. It looked great after I had painted a majority of the wall. Then I had to paint where the walls come together and where the wall meets the ceiling. I went back to the store and bought several "edge" painting items and tried using a compound that the man at the store said would stop it from bleeding over. The edges are done, but I still do not like the way they look. That is my problem with DIY. I always know where I screwed up. It probably looks fine to everyone else, but the edges still drive me crazy every time I look at them.

Hi Simandsexy, I know what you mean about the edges I always have problems there myself especially on the landing as I just can't seem to ever reach high enough to cut in properly. They make it look so easy on TV don't they? One thing I have found that realy helps when painting edges is to cut a paint brush at an sloped angles and just put the pointed bit into the edge, tip for when you try another accent wall either that or wallpaper it. I don't know about that! Cheers to your younger daughters' bedroom! You are so considerate! I don't know how to decorate the rooms. Others just do the job! So, I have never just thought about the decoration thing! This is the reason that I will never become a designer or something like that. My sister's major is costume designing thought it is quite different from decoration. They are both sort of designing. Anyway, she is more pfofessional.
