Jon and Kate plus 8.. being investigated for child labor laws!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31001777/ seems as if the attention from the rumor of jon cheating has drawn enough attention to them both and the show as a whole to where they are now being investigated.. its most likely gonna be thrown out but i find it humorous that people dont think about the down side of becoming famous like how they did and now i wonder what other can of worms is gonna be opened?? do you think there is any ground to the investigation? i do worry about their mental health though.. think about how when they are older they wont be worried about their parents showing embarrassing home videos to their boyfriends or girlfriends.. they could just rent the box set of the show!!

There is a law on the books about how much time a child is allowed to be in front of a camera. I wonder how they get around that law. I just think its terrible to have these poor children paraded in front of a camera. They did not ask for this. I believe when they grow up some of them are going to have regrets. Especially if the parents breakup they will see it as the fault of the show. Sorry but to leave a man in charge of 8 kids while she runs around promoting her books and the show its not fair to Jon or the kids Kate has the easy part I believe. Kate get your act together or your husband is going to be gone.

yeah i think she is being very selfish and it amazes me that she doesnt see that the show shows it.. i mean no one is watching that show and thinking she is fair and an equal partner.. they see her doing what she wants and him being a slave and miserable

I like this show also but when they have news about cheating thing, then I haven't follow up yet. It is not too good for their children, and I am sure everyone knows about this family cuz it is a show that the world watch. I hope everything is alright and they get back together and raise these wonderful children.

they never seemed like they really loved each other to begin with on the show.. if they are miserable together i rather the kids go through the divorce than have that as an example to follow for when they grow up and get married.. of course im talking off camera

I don't believe they are technically violating any labor laws. The kids aren't acting. They are just living their normal everyday lives. However I do wish that they had something in place to keep Kate from using her kids as her own little cash cows. The money should be put in a trust for the childrens future. I don't think the cameras really bother the kids. Its what they have grown up with so they don't know any different. However, I do believe there should come a time when the cameras finally get turned off and let the kids live normal camera free lives. But I doubt Kate will let that happen without a fight.

http://tlc.discovery.com/tv/jon-and-kate/jon-and-kate.html its a reality show following this couple that has 1 set of 8 year old twins and then 6 babies that i think they are 6 or 5.. anyways the husband on the show has been rumored that he is cheating on his wife in real life and well if you ever watch the show you can see how mean she is to him on there so there is this huge drama over it and now they are worried about child labor laws

I think the Kate and Kate plus 8 investigation probaly won't lead to anything. I can't believe those two parents don't get it when it comes to all the paparazzi! Kate, especially,is so full of herself she throws a birthday party for the sextuplets in a park! If you don't want the paparazzi around then that have the party at home! I also laugh when I hear Kate complain that she can't be home because of her book tour! Hey if you want to be home, stay home and say screw the book tour! With Jon he should of known better to have an affair in public! Both don't get it and I can see them getting divorced! If they do what will happen with the show? The story continues!

You know the only losers in this are the children. They didn't ask to be a part of this fiasco , but yet they seem to be front and center now that the word affair has come into the picture. These children will never be able to walk down the street at anytime now without being recognized or a camera following them for the rest of their lives. Something to look forward to, huh? I can see them doing this show if they are doing it for the right reasons and that is to give their children a college education with the money they are making from the show. Otherwise they probably would not have been able to go to college. I mean who can really afford to send 8 children to college and most of them at the same time. I am anxious to see how all this comes out and if Jon and Kate do stay together or decide to go their separate ways. I hope they make the right decision. flutterby

That's so weird. I know that kids who are working can only work X number of hours, but they are taping the kids lives, not having them on set working hours. There is a lot wrong with that family. I feel bad for them.

well i dont think they can get them for it since they arent taped 24/7 just a few days a week but psychologically i wonder..

First thing i have to say is these kids aren't in front of the camera everyday like most people think. They only film 2 or 3 days a week pending the schedule of every one. With Kate gone often, school for the kids, and other activities they have going on they don't have time to film everyday. I don't see how they could be in voiolation of child labor laws. I am not directing my anger at you the poster of this discussion I am directing it at all the people out there that think the cameras are on these kids 24/7! I'm directing it at all the people who feel the need to make little things into big things. For instance there are a few articals out there right now about Jon's $5 a day allowance BUT if you read WHEN his allowance was $5 a day it makes PERFECT sence! He had that "allowance" before the show started and at the start of the show. Which is when they really didn't have any money. So in answer to your question ... NO there is no grounds to this investigation!

i think the CLOSEST thing they could come to in this situation is seeing if its affecting the kids mentality but thats about it.. like you said and the article they dont film every day but i cant imagine growing up with my life being documented in that way and especially now that jon and kate are having problems then that is just being common knowledge to the kids and their friends..

Something like this was bound to happen. Cameras on you 24/7. No one can live like that for long. The victims will be the kids. It's a shame.

I've watched a handful of episodes. I am sure that the TLC legal team has enough people in it to know what the child labor laws are and to make sure the show doesn't violate them. As for the actual show, if I was Jon I would've cheated on Kate. Actually, I probably would've left her. She treats him HORRIBLY. That household is a complete dictatorship, Kate controls everything and everyone. It would be absolutely miserable being married to her. And then I watched the interview they did with GMA or whatever that show was. I'm with the critics, I wanted to just yell at her. She's stupid - whining about not getting time with the kids but she CHOOSES to leave the house so often for publicity crap. Nothing is her fault, she blames Jon or anyone else, but the probelms she has caused are not her fault. Ugh - that woman needs to hear from someone how she's messed up... and listen.

ugh i know! you know this is horrible to say (not that that would stop me) but doesnt this remind you of when you watch news shows about spouses that kill off the other spouse just to make them stop and shut up? i picture that happening.. well if the cameras wouldnt be around that is.. i dont see how he puts up with her bs.. i feel no sorrow for her at all!

Oh, I love this show, and I hadn't heard about any controversy before now. (Although we're several seasons behind here, so I don't know much up-to-date stuff about them!) To be honest I hadn't even thought about the implications for child labour laws; with all the reality tv that's on these days seeing cameras following families seems so common-place, but it's an interesting flip-side. I would imagine that they've given thought to whether having an intrusive camera team there such a lot would have a detrimental effect on the kids, but it seems as if they didn't fully anticipate the publicity effects. I don't know whether there's any grounds for investigation, do the kids consider themselves to be working? probably not. Are they working, by definition? i suppose so. Does the situation add stress to their lives? well, probably. It's difficult to say whether, on balance, they suffer in their lives more than a normal (less filmed) child would. In the episodes I've seen they seem to be very well balanced and to be enjoying their lives, and to not notice the cameras. But then we only see the final, edited version, and things have probably changed since the series we're watching, in terms of how aware the children are of everything. So, I'm waffling on here, but I agree they probably hadn't thought it through very well, and were perhaps being a bit naive when they agreed to do it, and especially carry it on for so long. The longer they do it for, the more I guess it will effect the children.

it would be really sick to be a publicity stunt since some of their kids are prob getting asked crap in school
