Anyone ever had a colonoscopy

My primary doctor said I need to have a colonoscopy. What do I expect with this procedure? I was told it is part of my physical. I am kind of uneasy about the whole procedure. I am unclear as to what to expect.

It's a very simple procedure. The day or night before the procedure, is a little tough. Have to drink nasty stuff and need to plan to stay home after you start drinking it. Will keep you in the bathroom off and on for a long time. I had no problems during the procedure, couldn't feel a thing. Felt fine afterwards also. Good thing I had it done since there were 5 polyps that needed to be removed. All were fine. I would do it again as a safety precaution. Good luck, carolbee

It was an easy test. Didn't experience any after effects from the test at all.

I talked to one of my coworker today, and she said piece of cake. I feel a whole lot better about doing the procedure.

Yuck, I had one about a year ago. It wasn't so bad. Here are the procedures I went through. 24 hours the day before, no eating. And I had to drink a gallon of this foul stuff throughout the day to thoroughly cleanse out my bowels. It was pretty nasty. Then early the next morning, I went to the doctor. They put me under or had me partly sedated (I thought I was still awake, but I guess I was dreaming) and they performed the procedure. As I recall, the procedure involved sending this tube into my colon that allowed the doctor to examine the walls of the colon. The risks are minimal. The procedure was done in less than an hour and someone picked me up after the procedure. This had to be prearranged as they would not permit me to drive. It wasn't so bad really, except it was kind of unusual for someone to take so much interest in an anatomical place where the sun doesn't normally shine.

Gosh, it seems they can have a pill to take rather than drinking that mess. I guess I will just have to deal with the taste. I am going to get it done next month. I am going to ask them for full sedation.

Don't worry, the hardest part is drinking the stuff the day before. Everything else goes pretty smoothly. Hmmm ... one more thing. Like another poster, I also had polyps that were removed. The second hardest thing was waiting to hear back from my doctor that those polyps were benign and not cancerous or anything. And that was over a week of waiting. But it all came out well in the end. ;)
