Aside of Earth of course... what is your favorite planet?... there are 7 other planets to choose from... in different sizes and colors... and with their own set of mysteries...
I would have chosen Pluto because it is the farthest thus the one shrouded in the most number of mysteries... but since it is no longer considered a planet... my favorite is Jupiter... not only because of the massive size... but because it is considered as a solar system in its own right... with the number of satellites and some believed to have the potential of being capable to hold primitive form of life...
Do you have a favorite planet?... have you ever been interested in the astronomy?... i was when i was young... until i realized that i am much too small to study something as infinite as the universe...

Although I am pretty well intrigued with the whole solar system thing, I haven't been too studios of it! I always liked making the models when I was a kid, but then I am a hand's on learner!! I would choose pluto as my favorite planet, but now they say it's not even a planet! Poor guy... to just all of a sudden wake up and be an outcast! :) So.. with Pluto iliminated, I must choose Saturn! It's the only one I've seen with a telescope... and it was awesome!! It's just cool with its sporty rings and all!!! Yep, gotta go with Saturn!

I must admit that Saturn's rings is a bit plus... and it is definitely cool to be able to see it first hand using a telescope... i only saw the planets through pictures... so, you are quite lucky to have experienced that...
Thanks for the response...

You know it was really odd when I got to see it. I wasn't expecting the emotional rush of the experience. I was homeschooling my children and we recieved an invitation to a science museum that was setting up for the event, which does not happen that often because of the orbits of the planets. We went to the roof and we all got a chance to see it. It was really quite inspiring and a wonder to see!

I really like Jupiter because I think it symbolizes power, intensity and potentiality which really mirrors me as a being! Hehe!
POWER - my ability to control and influence other people and also their actions.
INTENSITY - my capability to involve concentrated effort, usually in order to achieve something in a comparatively short time .
POTENTIALITY - my capacity or ability for future development or for a future achievement or action.
Happy MyLotting!

There were nine in the past... but since Pluto is no longer considered one... so now we only have 8... i really feel sorry for Pluto to be demoted like that... but people like us would always consider Pluto as a planet... no matter what those books say...

I would say that my fav planet apart from Earth is Saturn. I have always been fascinated by the ringed structure it has. When I was in class 12th I would stare at my physics book for a long time which had quite a beautiful pic of Saturn. Moreover the satellites and the structure makes it adorable for me....

I think Saturn has an advantage because of the rings... and i must admit that is a very nice addition to an already beautiful planet... Saturn is actually my second favorite... and i know a lot of my former classmates who also feel the same way about this planet...

I like Venus because the rotation is different .. it's inverse rotation.. and Venus involves a mystery because of its clouds that cover the surface..doesn't let easily know what's going on inside..

I agree with you... Venus is the twin of Earth but the two planets are so different... and it is very beautiful to look at at night and even in the morning... it is like the brightest star there is...
Thanks for the response... welcome to mylot and i hope you enjoy every minute of your stay here...

If you believe in Hindu astrology, then all planets have some influence on us or rather our destiny, our character, or moods our build-up etc. In my case, the Planet Jupiter is said to be the most beneficial planet for me…I have almost nothing going in favour of me but only Jupiter and it being the king of planets, that is all I supposedly need!
On another side though, Saturn is a very powerful albeit wicked planet…controlling Saturn is like riding a tiger! It is a very fickle-minded planet and it being in favour or against you, can change destinies of kings and paupers. So I kind of like Saturn too…though I would not like be under its influence (which is mostly bad)…but if only Saturn was in my favour.

The astrologers who prepare you horoscope tell you which planet is beneficial and which is not. Accordingly they suggest you stones for remedial actions.

Like you, Pluto was always my favorite. My first pets name was Pluto, he was a great dog, and I have fond memories of him! I was sad to here when they decided that Pluto did not meet the requirements of a true planet, and is considered to be a dwarf planet. Apparently there are many more dwarf planets, and we are continuously learning about more.
"Pluto is the second largest known dwarf planet and tenth largest orbiting the Sun. From its time of discovery in 1930 to 2006 it was considered to be the ninth planet in the solar system, but because additional objects have been discovered including Eris which is 27% more massive, the IAU reclassified Pluto and the other objects as dwarf planets. The New Horizons spacecraft was launched on January 16, 2006 and will make its closest approach to Pluto on July 14, 2015. This mission will provide an increased amount of information about this peculiar dwarf planet. The uniqueness of Pluto's orbit, rotational relationship with its satellite, spin axis, and light variations all give it a certain appeal. " http://www.solarviews.com/eng/pluto.htm
Now I would have to say Mars is my favorite. They continue to learn more about it, and there is more and more suspicion that life (algea, plants, etc.)may have once lived on Mars.
"The first global views of Mars, returned by the Mariner 9 orbiter in 1972, revealed that the planet was far more complex than the earlier flyby missions had shown, with huge volcanoes, an enormous canyon system, and evidence of running water at some point in the past. But the wave of darkening was shown to be the result of seasonal redistribution of windblown dust on the surface, the atmosphere's composition and density were confirmed, and most of the evidence for an Earthlike Mars was swept away." http://www.msss.com/http/ps/life/life.html

The information you posted here are very important... and i really feel sorry for Pluto to be demoted like that... but that is their decision... and there is nothing we can do about that... but i love the mystery this planet brings... and Mars is also a great one... i wish i will still be alive when humans decide to travel or colonize this planet...

Hello aseretdd,
*Laughs* I am not interested in astronomy and if you asked me this question, I think I still prefer Earth. Unfortunately, I can't choose Earth right? Well, Pluto is just too far and too small (for me) and recently, I watched an old movie about Mars. It doesn't look good to my eyes; the way the film portrayed Mars and because of that, I don't think I will think twice of the planet. Neptune sounds nice to me but it is just because of the name maybe... *laughs*

Well, not everybody find astronomy that interesting... some even find it very boring... we all have our own set of interests... and i respect yours... and the Earth can be enough fo some people... but i must agree that Neptune does have a sort of cool name...

I don't have a favorite planet (aside from earth) - I think it's because of their lack of life. Life is exactly why earth is such an amazing planet. It's a probability miracle - the probability that it would be of the right size, of the right warmth, of the right composition, and that its creatures would evolve as such into a spectacular number of species!
I'm not a fan of astronomy... For some reason, even though I like looking at the stars, I don't like studying them :P
Thank you for your response on my discussion!

Well, we all like to look at the stars at night because they are so beautiful... but that doesn't mean we are interested in studying them... i love astronmy but would rather just look and sometime read about it... since studying the universe can be frustrating at times...

I too would have chosen Pluto because it as the smallest. But since that one is out of the running I would have to go with Saturn.

Well, Saturn is also a good choice... it is the second largest planet in the solar system... with rings that give it more character... i also would have chosen Pluto... but since it is no longer a planet... i go for Jupiter as first... and Saturn second...

I guess I never thought about a favorite planet...I was gonna also say Pluto, but the poor thing was kicked from the planet club! I see by the other responses that they agree with me. But I am also going with most of the people here and choosing Saturn. Not just because of the rings, they are wonderful, but I also drive a Saturn!!! It's a 1997 copper sedan. LOL!!! Take Care!!

Wow... that is a great car... and the name Saturn suits it very well... it is really sad that they demoted Pluto into a sort of planetoid... but it will always be considered as a planet by people like us...

..Hi there, My favorite planet would be Saturn. I chose Saturn because of the many rings that it has. I think that is fascinating and very, very cool. The pictures of the planet Saturn that I have seen in books and on the internet are spectacular. The entire solar system itself is remarkable and awesome. We live in a great world, regardless of all the problems we face. Amazing beyond belief.

Aside from earth, not really no. Though back while I was in elementary school I remember studying about the planets. I was really fascinated with Saturn. I loved how there is a ring around it. Now that I come to think about it, I thought each of the planets were all beautiful in their own way.

Maybe let's put it this way, "if i'm a planet, what would it be and why?" well for me, I guess that would be Saturn. A saturn has its rings and personally I also love being surrounded by people around me.. haha.. saturn is also the god of harvest so that means good luck :) great discussion you have here.. unique :)

We cannot really be sure if there is or there is no life in other planets... our own concept of the word life might not be applicable to that in Jupiter or even Mars... but i do hope there is life there... and the friendlier they are... the better...

Hi aseretdd....well I have never thought of a favourite planet as such but now that you have asked I can say Venus is my favourite...Actually a few months ago I happened to go to an observatory and through their telescope they showed me venus which was bright and shinning...I learned that Venus is the brightest object in the sky and can be seen with the naked eye, shinning in the night sky since it is situated very near the earth.....So every day now I look up at the sky and always look out for the bright and shinning venus smiling at me.......

Venus is indeed the brightest star at night and even during the day... and it is equally as beautiful a Earth... but i just hope not that deadly to human life... but maybe if we give this planet a couple more million years... it will be like Earth... teeming with life...

I have to say Jupiter. Jupiter protects the Earth from large meteors and comets. The high mass and gravity attract them away from the Earth. The last comet hit Jupiter instead of us. It's almost like all of this was planned. Couldn't possibly be random chance. In any event, we would not be here today if not for Jupiter.

Wow... that is a nice way to put it... i always believe that God put thing even the planets where they are for a certain purpose... and what you wrote is very very possible... nice to know that something as massive as Jupiter is out there watching over the smaller or rather puny planets in the solar system...
Thanks for the response...
