A US Veteran speaks his mind about Cheney, etc.

I happened upon this story while trying to verify something else I had read. Most of the items that were showing up were originally posted anywhere from 2002 through 2005. This particular article, however, was dated only a week ago. The man was aware of the recent speeches given by Barack Obama as well as D1ck Cheney's and spoke of his own personal experiences as well as though of his family with military service and the reasons they had all served. I think it's well worth reading. http://www.andyworthington.co.uk/2009/05/23/a-us-veteran-savages-cheneys-lies/ I've never heard of this person before; that is, the man whose name graces this site. I have no preconceived notions of where he stands or who he supports or favors. I only noticed the title of the article and opened it to see if it was talking about the item I had originally sought. But, as far as I'm concerned, what the veteran wrote speaks volumes about how many veterans view the previous adminstration. I realize that not all will agree with this man, whether they be veterans or civilians. But, he does share another perspective that many of us also have...that we, as a nation (meaning, how we were represented to the world) violated our known standards of conduct which put us at risk simply because it cost us respect and devalued our position in the world. I am not fighting; I am not attempting to put anyone of differing opinion down. We are a country that has long valued diverse thought (as Voltaire stated: disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.) Let's keep it civil. What do you think of this man and his perspective? Do you think that his being a Veteran lends validity to his argument? Do you understand why he feels this way, even if you don't agree with his final assessment? Tell us.

I read his story and agree with his opinion of Cheney and his co-harts. It's a known fact that they lied to Congress and the American public to drag us into Bush's War. Now, we and future generations will suffer the consequences that come our way. Cheney should be brought before a Court and made to tell the truth about their lies. I am a veteran of the Korean War and come from a long line of Patriots who served this country dating back to the French and Indian War, so I feel I have a perfect right to agree with Andy, a veteran who served our cause in Vietnam. My buddy who I enlisted with was captured and killed in North Korea on November 30, 1950.

"It's a known fact that they lied to Congress and the American public to drag us into Bush's War." If that were true then why is it that nobody at mylot has ever been able to give proof that they lied? Everytime I see that accusation I ask the person to furnish proof and they blow me off. Do YOU have any proof? If so, please post a link to it. If not, count yourself amongst the many liberals here making claims that they can't back up.

Sorry Taskr if you had opened your eyes you would have seen the proof just as most people did. You just won't accept that they did anything wrong regardless!

I agree 100% with the article, I couldn't have said this better myself. The one thing I hope that people will see in the future is how the Bush administration manipulated the american people by making them choose between the constitution, and "right wing patriotism". Right Wing Patriotism was based on the beliefs that in order to protect the country, we would have to ignor the constitution.

It's a shame but there are some people who would believe the following: Bush who avoided the Vietnam Draft by joining the Texas Air National Guard and had no Foreign Policy experience prior to becoming President... Rumsfeld who was a Navy pilot in the 1950's but never saw combat... Wolfalwitz and Rice who never served in the military... Cheney who avoided military service in Vietnam through the use of 5 draft deferments, during WWII we called his type "DRAFT DODGERS" I would rather believe a Veteran who had been there!

And yet - they accuse the current administration of behaving unConstitutionally within months of their taking office. Ironic.

Absolutely, I think his being a veteran lends validity to his argument! He's part of a family with a proud history of serving our country and I thank them all for their service as I thank each and every one of our soldiers and veterans. It just so happens I know some veterans and current military members who agree with him totally. In all fairness, I also know some who disagree and we know there are several here on myLot who have served who fit in that category and that is certainly their right. I've heard from my nephews who are in the military that the tide is really turning among our troops. Many were very strong supporters of the former Administration but that number has been shrinking for some time now and Cheney in particular gets very little respect from them. I know there are exceptions and I'm sure there will be someone here telling me I'm wrong but this is what I've been told. Annie

It seems like a lot of former soldiers feel this way.

I agree... I've seen people insult America. The people that are elected into office poorly represent us, and because of that, our reputation is tarnished. What we need is change... Something that neither the Republican or Democratic parties will give us. We need to be smart and vote for independent candidates. They are the only way America will ever be put on the road to recovery. If you look at the Democrats and Republicans today, you will see that they are very much the same. Even though they express different values, they're all the same beneath that facade...
