Do you proof read your posts?

I certainly do not. I am terrible at this. Just last week I posted a discussion topic of " Do your parents treat you sibling better than you? " silly grammar errors.
I am wondering if this affects a persons decision to respond to a post. Does it even matter? If a topic is pertinent and interesting, do you still respond if it's poorly written?
I know that many posts on mylot are written in another language and then translated, I am sure this accounts for many grammatical errors. I have no excuse to account for mine.

eh, sometimes I do, usually I don't.
I'm pretty confident that I type what I want to, and I don't make many mistakes.
(Watch this post be messed up and full of errors.)
I sometimes still respond to posts with terrible grammar, but honestly, I don't always.
It bothers me to have to read through and try to decipher the meaning - it goes the same way for me and chatspeak.

I totally agree, no chat speak in discussions. It would make me feel like my discussion was being dumbed down if everyone started typing like a spoiled 15 year old kid texting their friends.

i'd have to say i agree with you. good grammar and spelling are not an absolute to me reading and responding to a post, but i don't have the patience to slog through a long paragraph of it, and if a post is full of chat speak the only reply i will probably make is a rude one.
chat speak is for cell phone texts which need to be short. if one is actually at the computer, one can at least attempt to write what one says properly.

Yes. I proof read my posts but I still make mistakes. My mind reads what I think I wrote but didn't really. I hope that made sense. lol

I think I suffer the same fate Mr. Goblin. I am pretty sure I at least reread everything once, but I still see what I think I wrote and post away. It's only later that I ever notice my errors.

Ditto for me...I swear I read them 20 times, and still never see my mistakes.

Smooth and efficient use of your technology. I don't look at the screen or my hands sometimes while I am typing. Sometimes I am reading a book or watching television, like right now. I am watching Mystery Science Theatre 3000 though so I am making tons of mistakes I am sure. I ussually go back and erase my mistakes ( I use Mozilla too) , but sometimes I just hit post and deal with what I've got.

Ya, i think part of the reasons for those discussions not getting good responses are due to the poor grammar and the way the owner writes it. I did encounter some posts which i can hardly understand them so i will just skip it and go to the nexts. For me, i will always make sure my grammar is fine and easy to understand, as well as no spelling mistakes in my post. For those discussions with grammar mistakes and some spelling mistakes, i'm sill fine with them and will still respond to it, as long as i still can understand. I think this is part of the learning process too, for everyone. Everybody is trying their best to post here, so i think just give them some time to learn up to write better in the future.![](/Content/images/emotes/happy.gif)

I never let it bother me when someone uses poor grammar. I amount most of it to online translators. I just make mistakes myself. It's all part of being human. I've seen people unfairly judge others in discussions because of their errors or poor grammar. I totally agree with you, that with time, they will learn to writer better and better.

I try to proof read all the posts I make but will miss something from time to time. As far as spelling and grammar affecting my decision to respond, no. As long as I can understand what the discussion is about and it is of interest to me I will respone.

I do read what I type but I still miss some mistakes. I do not think it really matters. It does not affect whether I post. I choose topics that interest me.

I am the same way, I'll post no matter how bad the spelling , grammar, or content is. As long as the topic is of great interest to me and I feel like I have something pertinent to said topic, I will respond. Kudos to you happy6162. And I see you are only 6 posts away from your star rating. Congrats on getting your star in a few more posts.

Sometimes but honestly not as often as I should becuse sometimes I'm in a hurry and just want to post what I have to say and move on, but lol my typing is not that good, and though my spelling has improved since being on mylot, I should definitely preview or proof read my topic and responses more.![](/Content/images/emotes/happy.gif)

I do read again before I post, and check the spelling for most of the time. Sometimes I don't too, when I am lazy. I always choose the discussion that I understand that, even it bad spelling or bad grammar, because every one got this mistake, it doesn't matter.

I try to proofread everytime I respond or start a discussion. But, sometimes, I just write whatever I have in mind. I guess, if people get the point in your discussion although it has grammatical errors, they will still respond it. Like you said, as long as the topic is interesting, I would love to respond to it.
Happy mylotting!

I try to, but my keyboard is messed up, so it's hard. I will read any post. I don't care if it's poorly written. If we start getting graded then maybe I will!!! LOL

I am the same as most, I hardly ever proof read what Ive written. I will simply type, read it as im writing and then submit....After time sometimes I notice my grammatical errors and such but no biggie... :)
Now that this has been brought to my attention I will mostlikely start paying closer attention to what I actually write, I hope anyways!

As always I love your insights berlong. So what you are saying though is that I have infected you with the grammar bug and now you can't help but proof read lol :0)
I've never noticed anything wrong in any of your posts I've read. Except the "mostlikely" above ,that's hilarious.
I'll hope for you,
I need more than hope though. I need a new brain.

I just respond to discussion which interests me, grammar error doesn't matter to me. I'm here just want to exchange opinions with people worldwide on some topics i'm interested and learn English by reading and writting posts. There are some mylotters like me are not from English-speaking country, it's hard for us to post without any grammer or spelling errors, but i think that's not the point. what do you guys think about this?

I will respond to a post with grammatical errors, but it does impact my opinion of the user. I'm not likely to put out a friend request to someone that doesn't make at least a marginal effort to fix their errors.

I do the proof reading as discussion itself tells about any spelling mistake, but i read as overview before posting the discussion or any response to the discussion. its only helps us, i think because if the response not understand by us then how we expect others to understand and give reply to them. isn't it true.

its ok for me as long as i can understand the post, i have many friends here who have very poor English, not only that they did it by mistake like you, but they really dont know .....but still i reply with whatever i can grasp and then write as much descriptive as i can...no punishment from my side...

I will respond to discussions as long as I have something to say. Of course that depends on whether I understand the discussion first. I mean if it is only minor problems arising from here and there which won't affect my understanding of the discussion, I won't care about the grammar at all.
Talking about whether I will proof read my posts? Well, I would say, I hope I had done so. :)
