I'm not going against Facebook obviously and I'm not saying the Facebook site should be terminated but it is a site that cause negative effects on many people.Nowadays, the main reason people surf the Net is to log on into their Facebook account and hang around there for extremely long hours. Why can't they use their precious time to gain knowledge through reading and practicing online tutorials?I just think it's totally a waste of time to see other people's picture and leave nonsense comments for long hours. No wonder students are always rushing to finish up their assignments and working people are not productive?Facebook is stealing their time.

Facebook is for people who like to waste their time
LMFAO hardly....I've been a member there for over a yr now and have gotten in touch with dozens of old friends that I've not seen or been in touch with for 15+ yrs..In fact my recent high school reunion was put together thanks to Facebook reconnecting all of us..
I'm sure they'd find some other mindless activity to partake in rather than have to do anything useful.
LOL...interesting point of view..wrong mind you but interesting none the less

Well you're right in a sense, but for the most part it seems like it's 95% students who should be doing their homework instead of staying up on facebook all night absolutely wasting time. I use it to keep in touch with people but that doesn't entail spending hours a day on it taking hundreds of mindless quizzes and posting comments about pop culture rubbish and uploading and sharing 'bumper stickers', etc...indeed I'm a recovering bumper sticker addict myself (six months or so of sobriety?), so I know all about that... Of course I don't mean it was designed solely for that purpose but they make it easy for those who want to waste time to do so, and most of the people who go there do it for that reason. One hardly need take it personally when I myself have been known to waste my time on facebook occasionally, and use it for other purposes as well.

and hang around there for extremely long hours
what makes you say that?? I have a Facebook account and I dont "hang around for extremely long hours" by any means...nor do many of my friends....Mind you we're all in our mid 30s and older..Teens may do what you mentioned but if its not Facebook its Myspace and if its not Myspace its texting on their phones and if its not that its video games...They'll grow out of it....
and for the record you can actually learn a great deal of things on Facebook...there are plenty of educational groups, applications etc should one be so inclined..

i totally agree with ravenlady.
and facebook rocks dude. It provides great deal of information and educational groups. But it depends on person who is using. Its on their hand to use and to miss use. It is not waste of time its a time well spent to enjoy oneself. Besides it keeps our friends in touch. I have many friends studying abroad, it gives me some basic idea how they are doing
But i agree that it isnt good for people to hang on whole day.Even the sugar gets sour when taken too much. but it is not facebook's fault, its people, and everyone doesnt do that. Like ravenlady said they will always find something to do.

Facebook, Myspace, etc, isn't the culprit. Just like blameing tv when people should perhaps go to a library and read. It comes down to what people do with it. I do video work, and cover events of the local and indpenednt art and music scenes, and we are able to correspond with these individuals via the social sites. Some of them perform, just to enjoy what they do, while others use it to try and catapult their careers. It all depends on the people!

I agree with usaction.
It's what you want to do with your time really, you could "choose" to spend your time on facebook rather than doing important work but it's not facebook that is the problem. People just need a bit of self control or at least do their work first before rewarding themselves. That way they can spend as much time on facebook or whatever else they want guilt free of the work they need to do. Priorities, that's what's it called.

Facebook can be seen as a waste of time for people who go there to "facebook stalk" their friends and lovers, but I agree with other people who say its a great way to network, if you go to most company websites, many of them have the facebook logo that lets you get in touch with them. I don't spend as much time on facebook anymore because it's becoming repetitive and boring and I'm only 19, so I'm pretty teens will get over their facebook addiction eventually. And I agree that facebook is just as bad as myspace, television, texting and instant messaging, but out of all of these sources, I feel like I can trust facebook and find better resources.
