What do you do if you cannot sleep at night?

I shall not be able to sleep this night. A cultural function is going on in the nearby ground. Last night also I could sleep only for a few minutes. I don't enjoy a cultural function standing all along. It's tedious. Otherwise i could have gone there. It is better to listen to the songs and music from bed. Loudspeakers are directed all the sides. But most of he artists are third grade whom I don't enjoy at all.
WHat do you do if you face such a situation where you are compelled to remain awake the whole night?

I'm always off to sleep as soon as I hit the bed! But there may be days when i may not sleep till midnight. If there is a good movie running on the cable or probably i'm sick with asthma - these are probably the two main reasons that i stay awake. And in both cases i simply watch TV. But times i do browse the internet and don't keep a track of time and finally end up sleeping late. :)

yes you are right.... but this doesn't happen often :)
And i'm on medication for asthma and try to avoid dust/pollens and cold stuff :(. Did you know that eating chocolate also triggers asthma?
Back to your discussion, elders in my family believe that if you have coffee or tea late in the night you may not fall sleepy as usual - something like insomnia!

I do nothing special, I can usually be awake for one night naturally if I have slept normally for some time before that night. If I was really tired I'd probably drink lots of coffee or energy drinks, listen to LOUD music and maybe do something on my computer (maybe play some game).

There are many factors currently in my life that keeps me from sleeping, such as fibromyalgia where one of the symptoms includes not having proper alpha waves. Long story there, but you get the drift. Also, the muscles aches associated with fibromyalgia frequently flare up to where I can not lay comfortably.
So, when I can not sleep, I get up, fire back on the computer, and watch television shows or movies on Hulu.com or surfthechannel.com. Or, if I'm all caught up with what I want to watch, I'll play games over at Pogo.com.
I hope you don't face too many nights where you are kept awake by music and other public events!

I have read about fibromyalgia after reading your response. Your endurance is high. I visited your website. You are really great that you are running your all round activity despite this tough health condition. Are you undergoing any treatment?
May i suggest you something as a test? I doubt some good natural antioxidant may work. I suggest raw garlic. What is take on it?

Well when I'm able to sleep in my room undisturbed by my pet cat I dont usually have much trouble sleeping, but since I got my cat 3 years ago, Iv had trouble sleeping, and I find that drinking something hot like hot coco or tea decaffeinated tea of course can help you relax.

I willmake yself busy to make me feel sleepy.
I will readbooks, magazines, write something or diary,
watch tv,reading newspapers or listening music or drama
that will leadto me to tiredness.
Sometimes I sleep soundly while the fm radio still

Have you ever heard of ear plugs? Why not get a set and leave them in your nightstand? Just a thought.

If I were in your situation, I will probably go to my friend's house for a sleepover. It's relly very irritating and annoying especially when you really want to sleep. I can't just stay at my house and be angry all night, while those people out there were doing their own business.

Alot of times I just toss & turn all night and feel like I do not get any sleep. But, some nights when that happens I will get up and get on the computer and hopefully will get sleepy enough to go back to bed and finally go to sleep.

I have never really been faced with something like that. I dont know if I would be able to stay awake all night long, and really its not healthy :) I guess what I would do is just bring myself around other people and have discussions and that way you are thinking and staying awake. Best of luck with that.

Wow, i think that will be quite a suffering if i cannot sleep and have to awake the whole night. Sleeping is important for me that if i get not enough of sleep, i'll not be able to concentrate and do things well in the next day.
So, if i were in your situation, i'll try to look for a way which i can make myself become more tired so that i can fall asleep easier. Maybe reading some books (which is boring enough, haha), do some housechore, simple exercise or things that can make you feel tired, those may help i think to make you become tired and fall asleep regardless what is happening outside. :)

You do the right thing, i feel. Because rather than struggling head on with the sleeplessness it is better to divert your mind from the question of sleep at all and engage in something tiresome. I shall try to follow your practice.

The only time I can't really sleep is when my mind is on over-drive. To solve this I go and do some writing, drawing or listen to some music until my mind is clearer. If it is just noise that is making me stay awake, I would get some ear plugs to block out the noise.
