I am getting headache with the noise from the power supply. It keeps shouting irritably continuously. My computer is pretty old already. Its very difficult to make the room totally out of dust and the dust can slowly accumulate at the areas of the fan and then it start making noise due to the difficulty in rotating. Many times, I have added some oil to clear them. It works, but only for few days. Then again it starts making the same irritating noise?
Have you ever got this sort of problem with you pc? In that case, what is the best thing you do to solve the problem?

Yes, that was helpful kapil, welcome to mylot. But living in the pretty old house, it is very difficult to get rid of complete dust. Specially, the dust enter through the windows also, but i can't keep shutting the windows all the time. It will make my room hot...
I have treated it with oil today. It working fine now, and I don't know when I will have to do this same thing again...
Thanks for your response...Happy mylotting...

With my old PC I had more problems than just a loud fan and not going into a lengthy explaination of what all was wrong, I will just say that my son and I opened up the computer and using an air compressor removed as much dust as possible. While we were doing all of that we removed the fan and applied more lithium grease between the fan unit and the CPU chip. I can't tell you how much quieter the fan ran. I'm not trying to say that is what your problem is as I am by NO means a computer expert but it is something that you might want to conside.

Hello Vickiq!!! Yes that is the same problem here. I think the experts will also have the same answer like you. I have also done like you. Last time, I along with my brother, opened the processor fan and cleaned all the dust, oh...there was many. But the major problem was due to the fan of the power supply. I have treated it with oil many times. And I think, its getting more dust accumulated and even after I treated it with the Lubricant oil, it starts making noise few days after again. Yesterday, I just did it, today I am getting relief with it....

My older Computer used to make some noise from time to time, as it had an issue quite a bit of the time. It sounded like it was the Fan or the harddrive going out. I now have a Computer that the only time I hear it is when I first start it up, or when I insert a disk or something into it. I enjoy knowing my computer is quiet and do not have to worry about it as well.

Yeah, new computers doesn't sound much like the old ones. Yes, when starting the computer, it makes relatively big noise than when it goes on. Here in my case, it is due to the fan of the power supply. It is really irritating. Right now, its calm because i treated it will oil yesterday...

I have two and one packed up completley due to the fan wearing out. I am now waiting for the new fan to arrive to start using it again.
Just before it packed up the noise was awful. It is very old and the fan was one of the few components that had never been replaced. Now I'm using the second one which is much quieter - or so it seems. When I turn it off there is a silence that makes me raelise that it is noisy too but nothing compared to the first one

I am also thinking of changing the fan. But I can't do it by myself. It needs some soldering too. I don't know, may be because I haven't tried it yet. But I am afraid to damage the whole thing by doing it myself. And now, because of the cleaning it is working very much calm and enjoying a lot. I don't know, when will this start sounding bad again and I will have to clean it again or change the whole fan...
Thanks for your response clean chin lol...happy mylotting...

Hello seymiss!!!
Yes getting a new power supply would have helped. But it is the ultimate choice when I have no other option. For now my computer seems to be quite. Because last time, I cleaned it with and applied some lubricant oil. I know in the future, soon again this will again make the same noise. But at least for now, its' working fine. I am thinking about changing the fan than power supply. It is cheaper....

Yeah, when I put headphones over I don't hear that sounds. But sometimes, I like to download the whole night and get a comfortable sleep. But as I try to sleep, the sound seems to be more and more intense and I finally shut down the computer before I sleep.
I think I should look form Dust Filters, never known about that. But first of all I think I have to change the fan....

Probably your computer is a bit older. My previous PC use to make a great noise and it comes from the power supply. I have a better PC now. But I am not at all satisfied with the key board. It makes a large noise, while typing.I really don't like it as it hampers my concentration.

Hello tuyakki!!! Mostly because the power supply is old and has already much dust contained in it. It is making this sound. I have to clean it once a month if I have to get rid of those irritating sound. And about keyboard, may be you have the problem of typing. Some people type making so much noise while some do it quitely. I remember my friend complaining me who was trying to sleep but got disturbed my the noise of my typing. So I had to be very very careful. And when he used the keyboard, the sound was so less than me. If you have real problem with the keyboard, I think you can change it with time...
Thanks for you response friend...Happy mylotting...

my current computer is noisy but thats because i have very fast hard drives and video card and about 20 fans, heh. it's water cooled too, and overclocked. My older pc makes more noise though, primarily because of a higher pitch of noise coming from the smaller fans at higher rpm. The bigger slow spinning fans push more air while being quieter. If you have alot of dust in your room it's best to remove any dust-filter in your computer because that will clog up quickly and overheat the computer. It's actually best in such a case to get a computer case that has alot of holes in, but rather than directing too much air unto the motherboard you direct it out of the computer, like through the sides and out the rear by use of a reverse blowing duct. check out the cooler master stacker.

Oh! I am jealous of you computer. I think you play a lot of games. Most new games don't run in my computer. So bored. I can't upgrade to new computer at the present condition...
And thanks for the suggestion. I had seem my uncle doing that, letting the air from the sides.
Thanks for your nice response...happy mylotting...
