I've built a few for other people but I never have built myself one! I'd like to build a computer without a hard drive but a RAM drive instead and with the latest CPU and GPU. That would be very fast! Also I might have a Hard drive too but I want the RAM drive because it would make things so much faster! The Hard drive has always been the slowest part of a computer besides the optical drives.. So if that could be eliminated then I'd have a much faster computer! I've never actually seen or tested a RAM drive but I'm betting it's much faster than a hard drive. I assume it uses a battery to keep all the data saved onto it. So I'd still want a hard drive for backup.

My PC is a completely custom made one. All the parts are bought separately and then I have put them together. That gives me a loads of options to upgrade as much as I want. More like a shift stick gear.
Talking about that RAM-based computer, I think that you will have to then use Linux based OS which can boot and store data (temporarily) in RAM like Knoppix.
Actually I am a bit confused about what you want to do. You can't store anything on RAM using any source like battery or anything. RAM's job is to reset when you shut down your computer. Plus, a computer with no HDD and using Knoppix with RAM would be useless (I guess).
