Parkinson's disease
Alzheimer's disease
heart diseases
stroke and dibetes type 1
birth defects
spinal cord injuries
replace or repair damaged organs

I dont think its life... its undifferentiated cells, but not technically a person. Stem cell research started several years ago but the number of cell lines they were able to use were limited in the US--this is not the case in other countries doing the research.
Stem cell research has the potential to possibly heal certain diseases, but like all reseach, the products of the research may be something else entirely.

Honestly, I think a lot of people mistake the terms "alive" for "organic."
Just because something is organic does not mean it has a life. Stem cells are not organisms, and they are not self-aware.
