We do add ginger in most of our cooking. Ginger is supposed to have natural healing and curative powers and so is a hit in South India (as well as the north). A few people have trouble with garlic, i.e., they develop gastric problems after eating food with this spice. However, garlic also has good medicinal values and most of the north Indian masala's include this as a main ingredient! On the whole ginger garlic paste does add to the flavor and taste of a food - be it vegetarian or non-vegetarian. :)

Not a fan of ginger, but as Brazilians, my family and I tend to go crazy with the garlic! Just about every dish we make calls for some form of garlic, whether it be the already powder form or the cloves themselves. We put it in our beans, rice, our meats and chicken, soups, just about anything! Sure, we do it because it the flavors in just about ANY dish, but I also just recently learned that it is VERY, VERY beneficial to our health. Never knew that till about a year ago, but I figured it had something to do with it. One "remedy" that "Brazilians" love to do (I put quotations marks around Brazilians cuz I don't know if others do this, but I've commonly seen it done among my family) is chew a piece of garlic when you have a cold + stuffy nose or sore throat. You can't eat an entire clove at once, it hurts, trust me. But slowly taking bites of it will definitely help. Clears up a stuff nose pretty well. It's kind of like eating hot soup, or eating some sort of pepper. It makes you sweat out the mucus and icky stuff that's all backed up!

Hi, I usually add garlic to my dishes, and they taste better. I would add ginger only to certain dishes like steamed chicken or fish.

We like ginger and garlic a lot, but there are some dishes that don't need to add ginger. We put ginger in chicken curry, chicken soup and sometimes in stir fry vegetables. I lived in India and I used to buy this masala in a packet before, it is easier and it's tasty too.

I have always added garlic because I just love garlic so much. I have never used ginger except for a pork chop recipe. I will have to add it to other recipes I have and see if I like the combination.
