I was just curious as to what comes to your mind when you hear anything about Detroit, MI.....
ok, yes there are the problems we are having with the Big 3 automotive companies, that is so old news around here... either you worked for them, or you are about to no longer work for them...
but there are so many interesting things too... like:
2008 Stanley Cup Champs.... Detroit Red Wings!!
Kid Rock is from here.... if you are into him you would know this!!
Eminem is also from here... another one if you listen too..
also they are building up a couple movie studios here... we are going to have the second biggest movie studio outside of California... and they give tax breaks for those who make movies here... so they have been making alot of movies here lately.
Ted Nuggent, Bob Seger, Jeff Daniels, Robin Williams and even Madonna all came from Michigan....
did you know that?? there are some really cool things that I have been looking up lately...
so what do you think when you hear Detroit, MI??
what about your area? ..what can you share about where you live?

I'm from Michigan and although I will definitely visit Detroit, it's not one of my favorite places. I do love where I live. So much so I even created a website for the community and for people thinking about visiting northern Michigan.

Hmmm, I think about the auto companies, Eminem, urban, gunshots lol.
I am from Ontario California, part of what they call the Inland Empire of Southern California. I think of cows, hot weather, also very cold weather. desert, malls, barren fields, tumbleweeds ^_^

When I think of Detroit, I think about the MGM and Greektown casinos, and wishing I was there. I just live an hour south of Detroit. Its sad when I see the decline in a once vibrant historical city. I didn't know about the movie studio, thats a good thing. I would love to see Detroit make a big comeback.

thanks!! It is really sad to see so much go down so fast here with the automotive and the unemployment and everything get affected by it... but if the movie studios work out well here (which they are turning one of the temporary Casino buildings into the movie studio) it will be a big improvment and they are working on a few movies here as well... that is kinda neat when we see audition calls for extras on the news.
thanks for the response and have a great night!!

I think Michael Moore, the auto makers screwing everyone and not much else. yeah being a jersey girl i am aware that is where madonna, eminem and kid rock are from there and no offense but i don't like any of them. lol. i heard about the movie thing and that is good news. not into hockey either. i can imagine what you think of jersey cos it seems that people have lots of crazy ideas about us, like we are all like the sopranos, lol. too funny. i live in central nj, it is overpopulated but it is where i am from. we can see the nyc skyline and 911 was a scary time here. i feel we have it all here. the mountains, the shore, the city. it is expensive to live here but like i said, this is where i was born and raised. i have traveled all over the country but i couldn't live anywhere else. the people here have a jersey attitude and that's cool with me. you can tell the people who aren't from here but even though i get frustrated with the high cost of living and all i feel secure cause atleast i know what i am in for. famous jersey people? well, my fav bon jovi!! bruce willis, springsteen, sinatra, hmmn there are lots more but i can't think this morning!!! oh yea the infamous jim mcgreevy the governor who quit cos he was gay, he was mayor of my town and believe me everyone knew he was gay, no one cared. his wife says she didn't know, yeah right, the whole town did. whatever! whitney houston, ashley tisdale, more celebs...

Oh my gosh, you have a lot of people out of Jersey!!! that is soooo cool!!
When I think of NJ I think of the move "Last Kiss Goodnight" with Geena Davis and Sameul Jackson...and Samuel Jackson made a comment about getting out of Jersey... "half the population has tried and failed"... LOL, I have seen that movie more than once.
I dont think of it like the Sapranos when I think of NJ ....afterall it is "The Garden State".... we drove through it about 15 yrs ago, we did a road trip from Michigan to NY... to Mass.... to Niagra Falls...and then home through Cananda... it was an awesome trip and I still remember how beautiful and all the farm land and how pretty it was, until we got closer to NY...LOL and we only got lost a bit on the freeway (in the express lane) and ended up in the wrong place but we still have something to talk about everytime we talk about that trip!!
thanks for sharing that, I really enjoy reading about other areas besides my own!!
have a great night!

this is rude, i know it, and i apologize. but this also makes me smile. when i read or hear about detroit, i always think "dirt-troit". that is what my late father called it, and he had spent a great deal of time there.
i have no idea how accurate my father's nickname for the city is, nor do i care. "dirt-troit" reminds me of my much loved and missed daddy. in my heart that city will always be called "dirt-troit".

Its ok, I am not offended at all... hey there are worse names it has been called at times... like the lovely little sayings like... "Detroit, where the strong survive and the weak are eaten".... etc.
but it is also great that it reminds you of your father... and that is a good memory.
thanks for the response and have a great night!!
