I am heartbroken

A month ago I posted a discussion about my dog Penny who was sick; sadly, I lost her 2 weeks ago. Her liver was failing, and she progressively got sicker and sicker; our vet could do nothing for her, so we made the heartwrenching decision and put her to sleep.
I will never forget the date, because it was our grandson's birthday.
Over the years we have lost other pets, but Penny was very special; she had a mind of her own and let us know it and very independent - she was quite a character.
It has hit me like a sledgehammer and I feel raw inside.
Our other dog, Poppy, misses her and keeps looking around the house for her. Penny was the leader and now I guess Poppy feels lost without her.
I am heartbroken, but I know that with time, I will heal again.
Rest in Peace my sweet Penny - you will remain in my heart forever.

Losing a beloved pet can be very hard and very sad. I know that feeling. It was a selfless thing you did to put your dog to rest, her pain and sickness is over and she is happy in the place where pets go.
I hate to hear people tell about their animals being dreadfully ill and in distress and pain but their owners refuse to let them go, thinking that the animal would rather be with the owners in pain and distress than at peace. This is just plain horrible and selfish to me.

When I saw Penny's photo, I cried. She so reminds me of my beloved Pixie...the first dog I owned from a puppy. I had her for 13 years and she was such an adorable scamp. Her hips were going and she would wake up occasionally in a puddle at the end but she would still run and play like a puppy. She went to sleep one day and then she was gone. We went through some good and bad times but she gave me so much joy. I like to think she is with other pups and having a marvellous time.

Yes, it was a hard decision to make Ms Tickle, but we had to put Penny's welfare first; I didn't want to let her go, but that was my own selfish feelings.
She has no more pain now, and in a better place over the Rainbow Bridge, running around healthy and happy. I have to think that.

Yes Abbey I love both of your Dogs because of our online Friendship, I mean the 3 of them went for a drive last year and Gissi was so in love with both the Girls, as he says they where just lovely
But on a serious Note yes she will be over the Rainbow Bridge with your Friends Dog and with all the other Pets there including mine but she is always with you, she will never leave you, her body has, but Penny herself hasn't
Love you to Abbey give P a hug from me to and tell him I said Hi
Big warm hugs to you

Gaby, as always, your words are tender and from the heart, and I love you for it my dear sweet friend. Although you never met Penny in person, you came to know and love her (and Poppy) through our friendship online - just as I have come to know and love your own little man, Gissi; he has become very special to me.
Penny is over the Rainbow Bridge now, and hopefully has met up with my other friend's dog Scooter who passed away a few months ago too.
Thank you so much for the little graphic you did for Penny, I love it even though it made me cry. I am making a scrapbook of her life, and that will be included as well as the Rainbow Bridge poem that you sent me.
Hugs from me and Poppy xx

Please accept my condolences over your loss!! And please accept my apology for being so late! I'm trying my hardest to catch up and am finally making some headway. I know how you feel because we had to put our black male cocker spaniel to sleep because he had cancer in his foot. He was 12 years old and still full of life but even though the cancer was removed, it had come back. We couldn't see having his leg amputated at his age for it would've been so cruel for him to learn how to walk all over again. It's been 4 years since we had to put him down and 3 years since we've had to put our female buff cocker spaniel down and she was 13. It does get easier with time, still hard but easier to accept with time. Hugs to you!!

Sweet Penny looks adorable, sorry for your loss. I dread the day my Cody will no longer be here. He just turned 11 years old he is a shih tzu. Its amazing how they become a part of the family and the love you feel towards them is unconditional. What is great is knowing you gave Penny a great life being a part of your family.
May Penny rest in peace.

Penny was adorable lelin, and very gentle and loving. It didn't matter where we were, as long as she was with us, she was happy. We will miss her dreadfully, but we still have her sister Poppy who is a shih tzu, like your Cody. She needs all of our attention now.
I hope you have Cody for a few more years yet.

Oh deb, you must be so scared of losing your Sonny in view of his ailments and his age. I didn't want to have Penny put down, and we left her to the very last moment, but the pain got so bad for her that we knew we had to. It's the hardest thing I've ever had to do, but I stayed with her to the end.
You and Sonny will be in my thoughts.

My condolence to you Barb on the demise of your Penny. I believe she is in a better place. Think about it, it is one of the best decision that you did for not letting her to suffer longer. No doubt, you missed her, but now she is perhaps free from all the suffering.
I guess you now need to concentrate on Poppy who missed Penny more. Its hard for Poppy I think. At least we can busied ourself with our daily chores and distract our attention more often than a dog. Please dont get me wrong, I knew how pained it is to lost a pet. I'm been there too when I lost my cat and that make me stop keeping a pet. The pain hurts so much.
Keep Poppy happy and what we can do now is think of the sweet memories that we spent with our late pet.
Take care.

Thank you Aidah for your loving comment. I believe too, that Penny is in a better place, and she is suffering no more. With time, I know that I will get over it, and so now we have to concentrate on her sister Poppy, for she misses her too. Penny was the leader of the two, but now I think that Poppy likes being top dog around the place!
We have wonderful memories to fall back on, which will give us some comfort, and we can start laughing again.
It's so nice to hear from you again Aidah. God Bless and thank you. xx

Yes Laura, we also knew that Penny's time was limited with us, but when that day came, it still tore me to pieces.
We still have her sister Poppy which is a comfort, and we have all the wonderful memories that Penny gave us - she will never be forgotten.

I am so very sorry to hear about your dog. I believe losing a dog is one of the hardest experiences of life. It has been nearly 2 years since we lost our beautiful Soxey, and I still feal pain about it frequently. I cried daily for almost the first year. Now it is just when something makes me think about her. She was part of our family as your dog was to yours. It is very, very difficult. My heart goes out to you.

Yes ladym, our pets do become part of the family, and losing one is so hard to bear, but with time I know we do get over it, but never forget. Soxey will always be a part of you, as Penny will always be with us - forever in our hearts.
Thank you so much.

Hi abbey, I can understand what you must be going through having lost Penny, she looks so adorable.I feel sad whenever I hear such news because we lost our pet Caramel 2 years ago. He was killed by a speeding truck when he went out of the gate chasing a cat. It was the most depressing time for us. We have never been able to get over him , so much so that none of us want another pet now ..

She was a beautiful dog - both in looks and in personality. Sorry to hear of your loss too, and even though it was 2 years ago, you probably still think of Caramel, and it still hurts I bet.
We still have Penny's sister Poppy thank goodness, and she keeps us busy with her needs, but we will not get another pet either. Too much heartache, and we are getting too old now.
Thank you so much for responding.

I know how u feel. We had to put down my lil girl, she was a Bouvier large for a female. She would luv to talk back to you or start up a conversation when she got bored. She had bone cancer, in the end she had to much pain.. I will always miss and think of her, her puppy still looks for her, she has been gone for several months...
REMEMBER ALWAYS LUV YOUR DOG/PETS, THEY WILL ALWAYS LUV U... BYE GHEYSKE'

Yes, Penny is in a far better place now, and suffering no more pain. We have to concentrate on Poppy now. I've started a scrapbook on Penny's life and it's actually helping me get through the pain. My friend suggested it as good therapy, and it seems to be working. And of course, time is a wonderful healer.
