My parents always tells that drinking water or any liquid immediately after eating fruits is bad for health. But they don't know why. They learnt this from their childhood. I also follow the rule. But i broke the rule today and felt uneasy in abdomen. I am not sure whther it was real or due to my over consciousness about the 'mistake' i have done. Do you do this 'mistake' and if you do how do you feel about it?

Maybe it is because there is normally so much juice and/or fluid in fruit that when you drink water it truly bloats the stomach. Not necessarily any thing harmful to your system, just makes you uncomfortable. There are many fruits out there that will create a gas in your abdomen if you don't let them digest properly.

I never heard of this kind of advise before " drinking of water after eating fruits". I also don't know the reason for this. Though I always drink water after eating fruits and I don't feel any pain in my stomach after doing so. It can only be a coincidence that you feel sick.

I have never heard of this before! Perhaps it is something that is a common belief only in certain countries? I drink water all of the time! There is never a wrong time to drink water. Your body really needs it. However, if I drink cold water, it does upset my stomach. Especially when it is really cold. So I try for room temperature water. I will pour myself a glass of water and let it sit for a little while before I drink it just so that it isnt too cold! I would guess that it was just your mind playing tricks on you or the temperature of the water was too cold.

I have never heard of this before and I actually do it all the time. But I learned in some of my Biology classes that technically, you shouldn't drink anything at least 2 hours after eating a meal. There is really no harmful effect. But the fluid you take in dilutes your stomach acids and in effect, slows the digestion process. Maybe that's why you felt uneasy.
