Over use of cell phones

I think most kids today spend way too much time on their phones and on the internet.
My son spends at least 3 hours a day on the computer. At least today he went out side and went skateboarding for about 4 hours in 100 degree weather. He was so angry he ate a whole box of "Family Sized" box of macaroni! But now of course he comes home and spends a good 3 hours on the cell phone. I find this disgusting and that is almost nothing compared to my daughter.
My oldest daughter spends AT LEAST 7-8 hours a day on her phone and computer. She didn't go out side once today. Maybe jumped on the trampoline for 10 minutes but then came back in and got back on her computer and phone and watched TV while doing it all.
I think it is just disgusting how much time inside they spend online and on her phone now! It is nothing more than wasting your life away I think.
I want to hear your decisions and comments on texting, cell phones, and overall obesity.

I agree with you. Most kids nowadays spend more time in the growing technology - computer, PSP and cellphones. I guess it is the current generation that we have to face. I just wish that they will still know how to socially interact to other people personally. Chances are if they spend too much time on the mention technology, they become very timid on the actual get together. Example: family reunions, in schools activities, etc.

Virtual social interactions are superior. Main advantage is that I can control the conversation.
1. I can control how much I want to reveal about myself.
2. You have no idea about my emotions.
3. When I am bored, I can simply log off.
and so on.

I agree that now a days kids stays inside and spends all the time either on the computer, or texting on the cell phone or just watching TV. What happened when we were kids and spend time outside. Even my kids spend time outside. But, now I never see any of the kids outside and even my granddaughter doesn't go outside much.

Personally I dont think kids need cell phones really and parents are to blame if the child is on the phone or inside all the time. That is one thing you can control. I cant totally control them when they are out of eyesight. However when at home I can control them.
We are normally outside and I leave my computer on for when I take breaks, like now. I come in and respond to a few that I find interesting while the kids take a break too. Their computer however does not come on until later, around 4 or so. Then they have to share it.
I really do not understand how anyone can be on the phone or watch TV or be on the net all day. That parents let them to me falls on the parent and is their fault as it can be something controlled.

i spend really a few time to watch tv or the cellphone in reality but if i consider all tech products i spend much more time on my computer and so over the internet too!!So considering i work with the computer too..i admit i use computer very often during my day!!
So i think normally for kids or teenagers this can be not good because in some cases they prefer to spend time on the game consoles, internet or simple cellphone rather than come out doing sports, friends and so on..i think if you like spend time online or using tech products for different purposes both personal or business it can be good and useful but if this become a kind of obsession this can damage as well!!
the fact is that many teenagers now communicate through tech..cellphones,social network, messangers, sms, mms, and not so often personally so even a boy or girl must use it simply to stay in touch!!This can be true considering that so many people have difficulties to interact with others or just because they have a real shy mood and so they can solve it behind a computer ,profile or cellphone too because many things are more unpersonal!!May be also people are afraid to know more about others due to the danger of society and so they prefer to be protected behind these!!

Some kids do spend to much time on the computer and cell phones texting. The parents needs to control how much time is spent on the computer and cell phones while at home. Some kids though do go outside and participate in sports while in school and in the summer there are sports for them to participate in also. I know many kids that go swimming in the summer and participate in summer sports they use the computer and cell phone but do not let it take over their life.

My oldest daughter is 16 and spends for the time she gets home from school til she goes to bed about 6-7 hours on her phone and/or computer. The weekends are worst. She spends from the time she wakes to the time she goes to sleep anywhere from 14-16 hours. Last month alone she sent or received almost 20,000 text/picture messages. I am an avid reader myself and am lucky if I send/receive 50 text messages in a month. (Most from and to my daughter) As for any link to obesity and computers, my daughter is 5 feet, 4 inches and weighs 101 pounds. If anyone has ideas/suggestions as to how to get our kids "out" more, I would love to hear them.

Though technology has been a great help on us: on making our lives comfortable, provides us easy living, gives colors to the blue emotions of people through entertainment, we cannot deny the nerve-wracking fact that technology has mistakenly made us dependent, it made us live like life wouldn't be nice and wonderful and good if not for those technology driven thing, it makes us think that life is all just being comfy, and that it simply made us a screeching lazy. It is not easy for us this days to spend time with outdated things coz for us, it is just a waste time coz we are trend to transcend time.

I use TV to watch only cricket. I dont like it much and call it a stupid box which keeps us idle. We have many other means to spend time. Just by sitting before TV will keep you idle, physically and Mentally. The better use of that time would be hangover with friends(not through mobiles or internet), a walk or a jog.
But watching TV just after having dinner may be good as you cant go outside and sleeping soon after dinner is bad for health.
