Actually lenses do help alot. But its not really about the camera or the lens its about the person behind the camera. If you got an eye for photography you can take excellent pictures on any camera.

Well, Blue Eyes, you are delightfully naive. Yes, technically you can, if you have a good eye, take good portraits with just about any camera, but don't kid yourself, having professional equipment with professional lenses that are sharp as a tack and have features like Ultrasonic Movement Stabilization is a must for the best portraits. Long lenses are preferable in most instances, as they allow for a flattering compression of your subject and you are able to better control depth of field so as to isolate your subject and cause them to "pop" in sharp contrast with the background. You can only do that with a camera which can accommodate such lenses. No, even though I truly love the sentiment that you express here about "who is behind the camera", it is not quite that simple. I know, you did say that lenses "help a lot", but you understate just how important they are, believe me. Being a pro, I have known for many years that having a good eye is not all that you need, it is merely the beginning, a prerequisite that, unless you have it, you may as well look for another pastime to spend time on. Having a good eye is something that one can begin to build on, but it is not enough to create great photography. I do love the sentiment, however!
