Learning any kind of sign language is wonderful. However it is important to know the difference between true American Sign Language and Signed english (SEE) or a mix of both called Pidgin. ASL uses classifiers, a different grammar structure and complicated concepts as well as fluidity. I suggest you do your research before you decide to go to a school. Has anyone learned both? If anyone is an interpreter do they use ASL or SEE more?

Interesting discussion, I am very interested in sign language as I have once solicited for an internship to work with children that are deaf or have a hearing impairment. I only know some basic signs that could be reffered to as 'Signed Dutch' and is mostly used by people with a mental handicap. The true sign language is very different and a lot harder to learn. I would love to learn it someday, but as I am currently a part time student of social works and also working part time there is little time left for another studies .
