When I went to school I never liked to seat in the front so I always tried to seat in the back. I was or actually I'm shy so I don't like to be in front of other people. What I really did not like is that I had to get up infront of the class and do some type of work or read outlound in the class room.
But now I see the consecuense and that is that my eleven year old is smarter than me. She is not a straight A student and actually she is really low in her grades but she is smarter than me in some school subjects.

I would be somewhere in between as the teachers in my school were smart. They would question the children who sat at the end of the class too. And of course the front benchers were directly in the front. It was easier to avoid the gaze of teachers from the middle. Though we had less numbers in our classrooms. So where ever we sit, our teachers would catch us talking or doing something we shouldnt be doing in the classrooms.

I think it's not necessarily a guarantee that the teacher won't see you if you're in the middle. In our practice teaching I often catch my listeners who don't pay attention regardless if they're in front, back or middle :)

Mmmm, I just don't wanna sit back or front. I just sit in the middle. Because, if I sit at front, there is a 'Danger' of being posed questions! If I'm at the back, I may not understand the class so easily. So, I prefer to be in the middle. But sitting at the back is not a bad thing. Our class's topper is at the last bench!

Really? Wow he has a good listening skills :) I'd also want to be in the middle but not at the back because I have a poor vision and I would like to understand the topic better. Thanks for the response and take care :)

Yeah, I too have the same kinda problem. My vision is also not good. SO, I've to be in front to get a clear view. What a pity!

I have always preferred to sit in front of the class. I have only one reason for it.. I love watching people, I love watching how people react to situations.. And if I sit at the back.. that will be the only thing that I will do all day. And I won't pay attention to my prof.. so that's why I prefer to sit in front. Plus, profs usually calls students seated at the back of the class, with the notion that those at the back must be doing something that they should not be doing.. like texting, or scribbling or talking to each other. =)

Even though you sit at the front of the classroom, still it isn't a guarantee that your teacher won't call you. I've experienced practice teaching and regardless of where they are seated I can still see who's listening or not.

I prefer to sit in front of the class.First, because I can listen to the professor clearly,as you know some professors' voices are low.Second, because of my poor eyesight,if i sit at the back of the class,I can not see the blackboard clearly. Finally, sitting in front of classroom make me concentrate on the study and help me not divert my attention.

Haha besides I also have a professor who would mark you absent if you don't respond to his attendance checking so it's really a must that I sit on the front. ;) thanks for the response take care

I prefer at the back. I am little to shy to sit in the front as I have the idea that those sitted in front are smart ones LOL. At the back you can hide yourself atleast. The advantage is what you said you can clearly understand your professor I agree, but it is depend on the professor LOL.

Hmm not really.. Front seats are not necessarily for the geeks. The reason why I sit on the front is because I get dizzy when I see a lot of people, I sometimes have a poor vision especially if the teacher doesn't have a good penmanship and lastly because I wanted to concentrate to what the professors discuss because oftentimes I am always called. I guess it doesn't matter where you sit as long as you're comfortable and it helps increase your concentration in class. Thanks for the response take care.

Hi Ceclille, well that depends on my mood. If I am on the mood to study then I choose the first bench and if I am not really in the mood, then I prefer the back seats. Mostly it happens that at the initial classes of the semester, I choose first bench, then in middle goes off my interest a bit and demote to the last benches. And again when the exam comes up near, I again promote myself to the first benches lol...But then it would be very difficult to get the first bench, mostly it becomes full before I reach the college....
Happy mylotting...

For me, it depends on the class. If it is one where I know will be easy, then I may choose to sit in the back, however, usally, I choose to sit up front so that I dont have as many distrations that I can see (I tend to pay more attention to what is going on around me than I do to what I should :)) And I have noticed that most of my professors seem to call on the students in the back more often than those up front.

hi there, that is a very interestin post actually. Well as for me i like to sit right infront not because i have a eye problem but actually so that i can understand better in class. Well i have sat at the back of classes before actually and i should say it is really very easy to lose concentration because of all the talking that goes on behind class. But when you sit infront there is this thing that you have to pay attention because the lecturer is actually looking at you straight. Well i guess it is some sort of psychological effect. well som people thing people who sit infront are just geeks. Well that is totally wrong actually i would say. well as for me sitting in the front works for me it keeps me attentive in class and helps me concentrate better. Anyway have a great day ahead and happy mylotting.
best regards,
alvingb

Hi thanks for the complement ;) I totally don't agree that people who sit in front are just geeks. I have classmates who are bright in class but they sit at the rearmost of the classroom and near the trash can but still they are attentive ;) Thanks for the response take care

Haha unlike me I often stay away from my friends while in class to avoid talking :) I'm often called by a certain professor so I should really pay attention to him. :)

during my high school years I'm always in front row because we are usually alphabetically arranged and in college in front row always because sometimes I'm the only girl in the class or sometimes there's only two of us girls in the class. but it's ok with me because when I'm in the back i usually fall asleep. lols

Hi there cecillecarmela!
When I was still a student, I have always chosen to sit in front. I often choose a seat where I am closer to the front. Sometimes my classmates would even tell me that with my height, I should sit at the back. But I really am more comfortable sitting in front.

I like to sit in the front on the side so that I can be closer to the professor and when I leave, I don't need to wait for long since I alwyas like to leave immdiately after the class.

I want to sit next to the wall in the furthest or close to furthest desk in class, don't know why, maybe just because it feels nice, and I always need a wall to rest my back on it...its not that I want to do something I do not want the teachers to see, its just that this is my style.

when i was at elementary school, they made us sit according to class number (alphabetical order) so i always ended up sitting at the last rows. but i really prefer sitting in front at either of the end sides. i would be able to see the blackboard clearly and hear the teacher, but i'm not in the way of his direct line of vision, meaning he/she barely notices what i'm doing. i don't cheat or anything like that but i do like to read magazines or novels during class, which i can do by just folding my legs strategically. :)
