News People on Television

Am watching the morning news and one of the guests, a doctor, is discussing sleep patterns. His tie is crooked. The knot is off to the side. Find myself focusing on the tie instead of what he is actually discussing. Do you get refocused on silly mistakes such as this tie situation when you watch the news?

No Carolbee I do not get led by something else when I have deliberately switched on the tv for listening to news.I am not an avid news watcher on t.v [my father-in-law cannot do without this and watching Doordarshan news is like breathing for him.] If there is something special then I switch it on and watch but because I do this rarely , my focus would be only on the news rather than anything else.

YES! That has happened several times and I know at some point it was because of a distracting tie or two. Other times it might be the hair or something they're wearing. It makes me wonder if they realized they were going to be on tv that day. Now if they were standing out in the middle of a storm or something like that, then I can understand they might not look their best.

LOL. that is funny. I watch our news channel regularly too and I see the little mistakes also. One of the news ladies must have got there late and the wind must have been blowing too. Some of her hair stuck straight up in the air and when they went to commercial she got it fixed LOL.

I think, carolbee, that it's because we've grown accustomed to seeing people on TV who always look so perfect - not a hair out of place - so when we see someone who isn't picture-perfect it immediately registers with us. I believe the phenomenon of all the reality shows has helped us to adjust to seeing people on TV in a more realistic light.

I rarely watch tv because there is no tv in my room and I am too engrossed in my internet work. It's not really work but I just call it work for lack of a better term. I am not making money, to be sure with the exception of mylot which has given me some money and I have used it wisely, I think. I would probably focus on the people and not on the news as you did. Cheers!!

I'm high auditory, low visual. So I could care less. As long as they aren't naked, I'm fine. I think staring at a person during the news would be boring, so I do crafts or close my eyes and rest.

Hi carolbee,
once there was this news reporter who was reporting something quite serious, but I could not concentrate on the news as I was watching his on his cheeks and when he was talking it moves and was making a pattern, that was strange.

Hey carol! That's so funny that you said that! I thought that
is was only me that focuses on stuff like that! I do too! I
get very distracted by things like that! It can totally throw
me off and I can't pay attention to what they are talking
about! I want to reach through the tv and fix the damn tie
myself or whatever is wrong! I swear I thought I was the only
person who thought like that! I am so happy to know that I
am not alone in my crazinesses sometimes!

Definately. I think when you watch the news or even a weather forcast you have this image in your mind of how these type of people should present themselves. I have watched a couple of weather forcasts now where this has happened. One had a very small shirt collar and you could see his tie all the way round his shirt.
