Huge Airplanes

Does anyone think that planes are gettng too BIG?? I was just looking at the pictures of the new Airbus380, the largest plane! It has two floors, beds, tables where people can face each other, and seats 555 people. I admit, I do find it very fascinating, and flying is an adventure. But do you think there's a limit on how large these planes should be?? Did anyone ever fly one?? Thanks!!

We should also note that some of the flights these airliners make take quite some time, especially when they fly across continents. Whereas I am not into luxury when it comes to traveling; I am just concerned about reaching my destination; having a bed, if the technology is making it available, is more like a necessity than a luxury. I have never been to a plane as big as that one. Obviously safety comes first. 555 is quite a number.

True...I guess this plane would be a great one to take to Australia, New Zealand, or anywhere when you're on a plane for over 20 hours. I would like to see this plane up close and personal!! Great day!

I have never been on a 380 before. The biggest one is 747 which was developed some decades ago. Planes are getting bigger because people can now support moving from country to country because of increase in living standard. Just take a look at any of those busy airports around the world and you have a clue just how many people are traveling by plane. Having bigger planes mean that more people can share the fixed cost of the plane and therefore help pushing the fare even lower which in turn encourage more people to travel on planes. This is what all those airliners are thinking about. :)

Thank you for responding!!! Yes, I flew in a 747 a couple times, once to Hawaii, and I don't remember where else! Planes are great cos they bring us all together and we'd never be able to go anywhere far in the world and learn about other cultures without them! It's wonderful. I just thought there should be a limit on size...it's kinda scary. Have a great day!!

I have been on large aircraft but never on such a huge plane as the airbus 380. I travel in economy class almost every time unless I get a free upgrade. There is usually a row of seats and not much legroom. There are fold down trays and the seat can recline a little. I imagine the beds are for business class passengers or those flying first class. Safety is my main concern far more than the size of the plane. I like to get a window seat and face forwards.

Me too. Economy is all I can afford! And I do relate to you about the space we have in coach. Safety is my main concern, too, and I just wondered if these huge planes are really safe...I wouldn't be surprised if they try to build an even larger one!!! Happy mylot day!!!
