Well....there is some truth in this saying 'variety is a spice of life' People and perspectives are renewed by change. Routine can be so tiresome that anything that breaks it can be helpful. But as good as a rest? Interchangeable with rest? Don't you believe it.
Rest should be more than a necessity. It can be a pleasure, a reward, even a kind of an art in that some people get very good at it while most of us don't do it very well at all. Human beings are renewable, rechargeable devices. When we run down and don't rest, we being to lose our light, our sight, our might. Each person needs to find his own formula for rest, but it should not be thought of as an interruption or a grudged necessity and certainly not as a waste of time. Rather, rest should be enjoyed, looked forward to and planned for.
For me exercising is the best way to relax, and it brings on real rest. It brings me away from the glare of the computer screen. For others maybe, rest is as simple as catching up on sleep. I don't sleep as much as I used to but short nap in the afternoon will recharge me and gives me a rested mind and body which will see me through for a longer night life. What do you normally do to spice up your life?

Variety is the spice of life only for those who thinks it is so. I do not think so. If I am to go with this formula I have to develop an extra marital affair with some women or girls to seek the spice. But I know that with little variation the test would be the same.
Tell me where should I stand?

lol...no I don't want you to misinterpret the meaning. Though it can be roughly geared towards what you are trying to project in your mind. I agree with you, no matter how much spices you add in, it will come back to a square one. It taste the same. It might only burdened you with extra emotional baggage with different spices when you are used to the same spice.

For me, sitting in a coffee outlet and give a glance and also watch people pass by is what's making me relaxed..while sometimes a long bath and aromatic candles while listening to slow music...
Other time lay on bed and do movie marathons or sit with a friend and have a heart to heart talk..this is what makes me relax.

Hi Zandi!
For me nothing is more relaxing than going for sleep or nap in the afternoon. Adequate sleep at night makes me feel recharged and rejuvented the next morning. If somehow, I am unable to get sound slepp, I feel lathergic on the next day. I am not a night bird..........LOL! I believe in 'early to bed and early to rise' principle, therefore, I go to sleep by 10.00 p.m. and gets up by 5.30 a.m. in the morning. Excercising and walk in the morning are the other options available to me, which makes me feel relaxed and recharged. If I am not sleeping to taking nap, I do not feel like sitting idle, instead I go for some magzine or book/newspaper to freshen up myself.
Have a great day!

Hi Zandi!
I believe in keeping a scheduled and fixed daily routine, so that I could execute my tasks easily and effectively. I agree with you that we should keep doing something creative to make ourselves involved and busy, provided we have time at our disposal.

Your daily routine is well balanced and that makes a happy person in you. We need to be creative and do something worthwhile like what you are doing now and not just let the time passes by doing nothing. Perhaps above all else it is the gift of our time, the most perishable commodity we have, that means the most.

Well to make it simple. We're not robots and anything routinary would be damaging in a sense that we're living life not to the fullest. Rest is important too just to break the routine. We shouldn't let something control us like computers or something to that effect. We should be the one controlling them in a sense that we should know when to stop and when to do something different. It's not bad to change route from time to time. If we can type without looking at the keyboard, then i guess we can try to type with eyes closed for an added challenge. lol! Of course, you shouldn't take my word in it's literal sense. ;) See? i'm still active here!

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji,
It is natural way of thinking. It is by nature, that we find everything different. Here
are some difinitions as appeared in:
http://www.goenglish.com/VarietyIsTheSpiceOfLife.asp
"Variety is the spice of life expresses the idea that it is good to try and do
different things. Example: "We were planning to go to Mexico on our vacation, like
we did last year, but we decided to go to Egypt instead. Variety is the spice of life."Just as a cook uses different spices to create the flavors in a great meal, a person
who tries different experiences will have a great life. Example: "I don't think I
would be able to do yoga." Reply: "Why not? Give it a try. Variety is the spice of
life."
Variety is the spice of life means that life is more interesting when you try to do
things in different ways. Variety is like the spice which adds flavor to life.
Example: "This year my wife and I are going to take a dance class and learn the Tango.
" Reply: "That's great. Variety is the spice of life."
May God bless You and have a great time.

Taking time to be outside and away from noisy people and things helps. We have built a fire pit, and when both of us are home in the evening we enjoy building a fire and then watching it burn down. The smell of the different woods is great. I also like to throw herbs on the fire. It is so peaceful and relaxing. If I nap it is only for about twenty minutes. I think I need one right now.

Yes, you are right there. We do need rest and recharging. I used Zen meditation, also known as zazen, where the practitioner sits and stills his/her mind by focusing on the in-breath and the out-breath and aims to exclude all other thoughts. Once I get the mind still in this way, it is more restful and rejuvenating than ordinary sleep because the mind is active with dreaming then.

Hell zandi, I live in a small village and cannot drive so am normally at home or around the village..for me a rest is when I am able to go somewhere else even to the neighboring town, as it takes me away from my village and a chance to look around and relax wherever it is I may of gone. So that is the way I rest...LoLo

I am in desperate need for some variety to spice up my life. I guess not a great deal has happened in a long time that is not routine. I feel a real need to take a break and for me in order to break away from the mundane is to take a holiday away from here. The unfortunate thing is that, at the moment, not only my husband cannot take time off work but we are not financially able to take the vacation I long for.
Reading your discussion has made me want to ponder on how I can change my situation and take a well earned rest without the need of an expensive holiday.
I know that a rest is vital for me to recharge and refresh.
Afternoon naps would be a great way to start because I don’t sleep a great deal at night. That along with a refreshing walk would do the trick nicely.

I believe that "variety is a spice of life".monotony is boring.you'll get sick of doing the same things over and over again.doing different things that you're interested at makes your life happier and you grow as a person.for me,I try to learn at least 5 skills per year,to make me sharp.but aside from keeping busy,I try to relax by staying at home and reading books that interest me.

hi zandi, it is true that - variety is a spice of life. yah change and relax can aggrandize our activities for our day by day work. continuation of works may be the cause of our mental sickness. so at the day end, i often go with my friends for a gossip. it makes me more effective for later work. if i feel weekness then i go to bed at day, otherwise i go to bed at mid night. restless life means we are going to lose some moments of our rest of life.thanks.

"Variety is the Spice of Life." This is one of my favorite quotes, and how true it is. Is life not much better when it is filled with a "variety" of the things we like? Of course it is. It is inevitable that some things in your life will go wrong, so it is nice to have other things that you still enjoy to fall back on. Like investing, they always say, "Do not put all of your eggs in one basket." The same goes for our personal lives. The way to be happy is to fill our lives with a "variety" of things that make us happy. If you have a variety of things that make you happy, this decreases the risk of becoming unhappy if just a few things go wrong.

Hey,
I love that quote, but sadly most of the times my life has actually been quite boring, and their has been absolutely no variety in my life. I just don't really know why, but my life has been boring ever since I can remember. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!
