Attending classes:required or optional?

Some people believe that university students should be required to attend classes.Other believe that going to classes should be optional for students.As a university in China,I think we students must attend every class if you want to pursue our course of study to the best of our ability.Which point of view do you agree with and why?

I think attending classes is optional.First,beacause we have many things to do in our university life,if we attend the class which is not interests us.It may be a waste of time.Second,I can choose the different classes which I like and the teachers who I want to listen to.Finally,if you have a good knowledge of what the class would tell,I think you do not attend the class.You can do the other things.
