The cravings are a killer, but when you have something else to preoccupy both your hands (both of them)such as using them to touch type on my keyboard and the discussions on myLot are interesting and varied enough to distract me from the craving. I decided today that I am going to try to quit smoking cigarrettes. Each time I conciously think about lighting a cigarrette I am trying to get myslef to reach for my mouse instead and find a discussion to preoccupy both my hands and my mind. Of course it won't always work, and of course there is a lot more work and a lot more will power that will have to be applied. I have been smoking for over 20 years, since before my teens so it is almost a part of me but they really need to go! So I am trying to unmarry myself from my nasty little obsessive compulsive tobacco habit before I contract one of those diseases they warn you about on the side of the cigarrette pack. As far as I am aware my health is good and I don't have any problems but I have embarked upon a serious fitness program and I don't feel like you vcan be that serious about fitness if you immediately light a cigarrette after a workout, effectively cancelling out the benefit that you have gotten from working out on your physical health and longevity.

Yet another reason to make Mylot your favourite site! You have to want to quit, and you obviously do. My son was a heavy smoker, but he's given up 5 years now. He went to a hypnotist. I'm not saying it would work for you, but maybr it's another fall back if you need it. Good luck!

Thank you for responding to this discussion. That hypnotism idea is one that I have considered in the past but they want an arm a leg and a lung for a multi session "cure" that may or may not work. I think I will try manipulating my thought processes first b4 I do anything like that. I am glad that it worked for your brother. After all it is the result not the methodology that matters right?
