With the economy the ways it is, have you found thrifty ways to update the look of the rooms in your home? Please share some, if you have. We all like change, but with prices so high, it is hard to make major changes in the home if you're on a tight budget. Karen

well, first off, I dont use table cloths often... I make my own.. for a very small fraction of the cost.. and sa e with curtains. Then instead of buying brand new stuff.. go garage saling... you can often get nic nacs for like 50 cents... instead of the 9-50 bucks you would shell out for brand new stuff.

These are some very good suggestions. I know longer own a sewing machine, but could use my daughters. I love the idea of choosing and making things myself, so thank you! Karen

I just started redecorating my room. I bought the paint, then instead of paying 14 dollars for one of those alrdy made orchid vase things, and made my own for like 6 bucks, then instead of buying expensive prints, I use my own pictures to decorate my wall.

WHen I redid my bathroom I wanted a different kind of towel bar...well I had a plate holder that was sitting in my closet so I got it out and it made the cutest towel bar. I rolled up my hand towels and stuck them where the plates should have been and it make things much more interesting then using a plain towel bar and I didn't have to buy it!

What a sweet idea! I always admire the creativeness of people who can find multiple uses for a single item : ) Karen

Yes,I have always sought thrifty ways to update the look of my home. I always found many traditional habits to be very expensive. I don't believe in the use of rugs because they are expensive to wash and maintain so I use the wooden floors as a canvas, just by leaving them the way they are. I make all the beds with store bought quilts because they are easy to wash and keep tidy. you can also change the look of a room simply by moving the paintings around, or even moving decorative items, or smaller pieces of furniture. Lastly, the absolute most effective and least expensive way to redecorate your home with the most impact is by painting. Painting a room will transform it, and if you do it yourself you will save a lot!

hi peacefulwmn9 I was just remembering when my husband was ' alive he often gardened and did some odd jobs for people who' were quite wealthy, and in exchange we received some of the most beautiful furniture still in excellent shape we had ever seen and would have cost a fortune if we had bought it. they were pleased with his gardening work and we loved the new pieces that we could and did use. just a fair trade so to speak.

Hello Hatley. Trading favors, etc., was at one time very common. I think in these hard economic times, we've seen a resurrgence in the sense this makes! Thank you for sharing that encouraging story :) Karen

Hello Coco :) I haven't tried a flea market yet, but I have friends who go to a large one about an hour away each year. Perhaps this coming summer I'll go along. Thank you for the great ideas! Karen

If you have a local goodwill you can definitely find some good things in there that people throw away. You can get stuff in there and re paint it and make it your own style and add your own flavor to it. Things from candle sticks to furniture. Even your stuff you have now you can paint and that the cheap way of getting around things now. Also if you have pickle bottles, apple sauce bottles paint them and use those are flower pots or something like that. Its easy to save and decorate your home now a days. If you find a picture you like go to good will get a picture with a nice frame and paint the frame. I hope you have some good ideas now enjoy.

I didn't know Goodwill sold used furniture. I am very much in need of end tables and such. I also think your idea of recyling glass jars into vases and flower pots is excellent, so thank you very much : )) Karen
