My great grandmother lived to be over 90ty she rarely went to the doctor and she raised a large family and she was just a wonderful person, and the another interesting thing is she would eat pretty much whatever she felt like eating, she ate normal portions of her favorite foods and she didnt seem to worry much about what she ate, but she lived a long reasonably healthy life, and I'm very happy that I was able to get to know her she was a lot like my mom strong and kind she made everyone laugh, she was the best person, and just posting this makes me miss her a lot.
But its also got me wondering becuse she lived such a long time without working out or really watching her diet, and you know what else my great, great, grandmother lived past 90ty too, and I'm always amazed when I think about that becuse everyone today has become much more health conscious yet, a lot of people sadly still dont live that long anymore, so my question to you is, do you think its possible to eat whatever you want and still live a long healthy life? or do you think that long livers just have really good DNA?

Things have changed a lot over the years and I'd say the older generation wasn't as exposed to the harmful substances and chemicals that we are today. Now everything we eat and drink has nasty fructose sugars in it and everything used to be made from natural ingredients. They would still have exposure to them, but far less then what we have grown up with. I think it's smart to watch our diets and excercise regualarly. It may not prevent every problem, but at least we know we're doing what's right for our bodies. It's wonderful that they loved that long and remained healthy without too much worry, but I think it could really go either way. Just depends on your genetics and what you're exposed to. I personally have to work out daily and watch my diet like a hawk and still have trouble staying healthy.

You have made some interesting points it dose seem that there are a lot more unhealthy chemicals in our food today then there was in my great grandmothers time, and maybe that dose play a role in how long a person can live, thank-you for posting your thoughts on this topic.

Hey,
Well for some reason I have seen people eat whatever they want, drink, smoke and yet they are still ling and they are 90 something years old. But I don't think that many people can do that, so I think that it doesn't really matter, some vegetarians can even die of cancer before they reach 60. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

I guess it is if you just don't get any diseases. I think it's also possible to wat pretty much what you want and be also fit if you just burn the calories.
I'm underweight. No matter what and how much I eat or how little I move, I just don't get any weight. Of course if I eat 2 kilos, I'm 2 kilos heavier but after going to the bathroom, I'm back to normal. So I think I'm one of those who can live a long life, eat what they want, move as little as they want and still don't get any diseases or weight. So was your great grandmother underwight like me?

Well,Congratulations to your Great Grandma and your mother for still living till this day! I want to live longer like they are now and see myself after along time. And regarding there age, it seems that they prefer the old fashioned way of being healthy rather seeing a doctor or taking pills. Is there any advice that your parents or Grandma that you can give to us or at least to me..it depends on the person but i think your Mom is doing a good job being healthy.

Hi there apples99! Good day to you! Well, I think IT IS possible to eat whatever you want and still live a long life if what you want are healthy foods but if what you want is unhealthy, I do not think you will live that long if you are not on expensive medicines. Well, that principle in life is not good if what you want to eat are just delicious unhealthy foods apples99. I think we should eat a balanced diet and we can eat what we want once in while. Eat healthy foods apples99 if you want to live a long life and exercise and be safe everytime! Happy myLotting! :)

I think it is possible to eat whatever we want yet still live a long life. We people have different tastes on foods and different eating habits and I believe we could live long even if we eat whatever we want, just by eating in right amounts, that where we know how to take foods in moderation. We could eat many and know how to burn it or keep it in balance so that everything is just right. Eating can be considered a hobby and all we just need is discipline.

times have changed and so has food. but most importantly I think your grandmother lived so long because she was a happy person. most people with stress live shorter lives. you mentioned she was kind and happy all the time I think that was a major key to her healthy life

I have also noticed that before people live a long and healthy life without much worries on what they eat. I knew that because my great grandparents were the ones who took care of me from 2 to 16 years old. My parents were working abroad before. Then I have also noticed that life expectancy of people now is shorter compared before even if most people now are health conscious and live a healthy lifestyle. My opinion is that more foods nowadays are not natural. Most are chemically made and not as fresh and real before. So maybe that is one reason. Another reason is that people nowadays are too stressed and too worried about everything. Unlike before people are not as problematic as people today. I have watched this television show where an expert is discussing about a life span calculator and there were some celebrities. The average life expectancy of Filipinos according to him is 70. Then he asked some questions to the celebrities who were holding a bundle of paper showing numbers. All started at 70. Then for every question that applies to them, they need to subtract something like three or two or add some years in that number. Some of the questions were as follows:
Do you exercise daily?
- If the celebrity answers yes, then add three years to 70 which makes it 73. Others who do not exercise needs to subtract two years. Something like that.
Do you eat too much vegetables or too much meat?
- Same as above. They need to subtract maybe two years if they eat more veggies and subtract something if they eat more meat. Same procedure applies with the rest of the questions below.
Do you live alone or with someone?
Do you smoke and drink?
Are you a happy person or someone who always worries?
Do you socialize with others?
I can't remember the other questions but the main result is that all the celebrities enjoyed the show and they got the result of their predicted life span. Some got below 70 and others above 70. I am also amazed because I may not joined the rest of the celebrities but then I am happy because I live with my husband and son. I do not exercise but I walk everyday at home. I also do household chores. I eat most meat but I never failed to eat vegetables. And I and my husband never fail to laugh everyday. I have lots of worries but I never let them get in to me too much. So I guess I and my husband will live a long and happy life!

Yes, the older generations had longer lives forIMO the following reasons:
1. Theirs was an unpolluted atmosphere.
2. Their foods were grown organically-no pesticides, no fertilizers. This is almost an impossibility now.
3. Their lives were free of stress.
4. They ate no junk food.
And then some of them lived long, and pretty long if they did. The survival rate was pretty low, too. What applied for organically grown grain, vegetables and animals applied to people.
In contrast today you have advances of medical sciences- esp the investigation part of it so those who should have or would have succumbed would continue to live propped up by strong acting medicines like antibiotics.
Pesticides and fertilizers similarly bring about "weaker" grain to the fore as our food. Thus "weak" and "diluted" food, perpetrate a life lacking in vitality.
With lives full of wants and consequent stress-- that has its toll in the form of stress induced diseases like Diabetes Mellitus, Low backaches, Migraines, Heart and Brain strokes for instance.
The advanced techniques of medical investigations ahve only made us aware of the existence of newere diseases like the various melanomas(cancers) and AIDS- I am sure AIDS would have been there in very ancient times too.
So, humanity ahs thrown a challenge to Nature itself- by way of trying to conquer it. Now it is Nature's turn to come uo with "strategies" to eliminate the burgeoning population. We need to see, what interesting things come up now.

i have same doubt as you sometimes,i even more agree that long livers have good DNA,everybody know that somking is unwholesome, but sometimes we would found that a long livers have the habit of smoking for long long time,so i think the long life may be more lie on the frame of mind, but for the mordenist,we often couldn't control our temper or mood, but we could choose the food which is health for us.

Well I guess there's no rules for the longevity of human beings. One of my great grandmother lived to 92 years old and she had beening drinking about 300-500ml strong spirit since she was 30 or 40 untill the last day of her life. She had done quite a lot labor work in her youth and middle ages with a relatively less nuitritious diet. And there're a lot of other cases around me in which I see no direct correlationships between good diet and longevity and I suppose the state of mind matters much more, as well as the genetical things.

Well, I think it is possible to eat whatever you want just as long you have an active life. Taking care of you family probably kept your grandmother pretty busy and so she really didn't need to much exercise because she was so active. The way a person's life style is a factor too. The less stress a person has in their life; the better the feel about themselves. These are some of the things you can pay attention and make some changes for yourself.

Well, It depends on the food that you want. If you like healthy food, then it will be or it is possible for you to live longer.. but if you like to eat oily/greasy/fatty food, then it's an another case.. It also depends on your genes because just like me, my family has a lot of heart disease cases and because of that, I have a rheumatic heart fever.. how sad.

i think that with the advent of all the bad stuff that is happening in the world, people in general are more stressed out and due to large populations there is an increase in pollution and disease. in my estimation, life expectancy is shorter now because the environment is not as healthy as it used to be. it is no longer possible really to eat what you want and live long unless what you love to eat is healthy food and you love to exercise regularly then yes your life will be long.
