is having a religion make us a better person?

Well it depends from person to person, if you ask me I would say it has definitely made me into a better person......all the while I was away from god and never knew what plans he had for me or what he wanted me to do.......but then when i am with him, i feel a sense of security and assurance that he will lead me to the perfect life possible, he does teach us ethics if we read the bible.......if we just follow the bible, we can be not only better persons but the best person possible.....

I don't think that having a religion makes someone a better person at all, I believe that religions control people and by following religious guidelines people are giving up some of their reasoning power by blindly acceepting a creed. I think that if people follow their own moral guidelines that makes them a better person wheras religion tends to impose guidelines onto followers which are accepted without any real thought. Lots of religions are followed blindly and turn people into bigots and intolerant people. Also religion is used by many states to provoke its peoples into wars which are really nothing about religion but invariably about money. And history shows religious persecutions which are nothing more than hatred and trying to impose one set of beliefs onto another.

I think that for some ppl yes being religious or spiritual CAN and DOES make them better ppl but that certainly doesnt apply to ALL ppl who are or claim to be religious or spiritual by any means....In MY life...being spiritual has enhanced me on so many levels which of course has made me a better person BUT thats me..

Sad to say I don't think religion makes anyone a better person. Look at the white supremacist skin heads, they are very religious and kill in the name of God. Look at the terrorist on 9/11, they were very religious men, look at what they did in the name of Allah. Look at the KKK and all the unspeakable acts they did to African Americans in the name of God. Lone people, groups of people and organizations kill in the name of a higher authority. People are always doing repulsive things in the name of Jesus. Which in turn casts a cloud over the real Christians in the world. What the terrorists did cast a cloud over good Muslim people. It all falls under the title 'Religion' and sadly it influences the opinion of other culture. No, I don't think religion does anything for anyone. I think the word 'religion' is just a title. A word that we hang anything under that has to do with a higher, unseen power, whether it be God, Allah, Budda and all the rest. I can't speak for anyone but myself, I think knowing and having a relationship with God through Christ and following His teachings has made me a better person.

Religion influence is obviously there in everyones life, so if not the better person it holds us to certain extent,because of religion only we controls ourselves from doing certain evil doings though we do we try to control it..Love your enemy as you love thyself. So sometimes we remember this words and forgive our enemies no matter what they do to us though unforgettable.

I don't think my religion makes me a better person bcause I am a bad egg, but it really influence our live, for example the muslem Mohammedanism's believer the craze to detonate theirself.

No definitely not, it is what you do through your life that makes you a good or bad person...I know a lot of people who class themselves as very religious but I can assure you they are not good people, far from it...it is all within...
