How do you get the dirt ring off a kid?

I have a future step son that refuses to bathe. I mean, that even though he lives with his mom full time, and she is constantly yelling at us for it, he doesn't bathe but on the weekends that we have the kids.
When I was younger, my mom used to put vaseline on my little brother and leave it on all day until it was bath time. We have tried everything from vaseline, crisco, and WD-40. I don't know what else to do. You got any suggestions? I am willing to try anything!

Try tackling him with baby wet wipes. Make sure they are baby wipes, and that they smell nice and girly. He won't like that, and he'll probably insist that he's not a baby. This is where you tell him that if he insists on behaving like a baby by not keeping himself clean, you're going to clean him with baby wipes. I reckon he'll settle for the bath! I hope his father is supporting you in this, and not avoiding confrontation because he is scared his son won't want to visit any more.

His father is awesome about this. This kid is pure lazy and his dad being a manly-man with all the smell goods and such seems to pass him by. His dad threatened to stop taking his insulin and blood pressure meds if he doesn't get his rear in gear. I like that idea. Girly LOL! This is good stuff. If this don't work, I'll get out the comet! LOL Thank you!

I had this problem with a child that i used to sit, I put a minute amount of bleach on a flannel and mixed it with soap. it came up a treat. although be careful not to put too much bleach on as it will burn!!

I might have to try it. I got to do something about it. It's disgusting! And the lack of mom's attention isn't helping. She sees them twice a week and evidently misses the fact that he's a white child with a black ring around the neck. wish me luck and thank you!

I have no suggestions but his dad needs to document it for future possible court dates. Sounds like the kids need to live with him instead of the mother.

he is never to big for you to put in the bath and scrub.. and I mean scrub from head to toe. You do it once and you do it really good and trust me he will start to willingly give himself a bath, as he will fear you ever doing it again. If it is a modesty thing then put him in there in his bathing suit or underwear.

I did that and his dad laughed! His mother on the other hand threw a fit and threatened to call child services on us. Her response was that boys will be boys. Grrr is what I got to say!
