This is a tough question.your friend is a boy.so i think you can choose something special to him. For example, a game or digital products.It's better for him.

Money is the best gift if you dont know but something special would be something personal like a picture frame with a picture of you two in it, or you could do something like a scrap book, gift cards dont work because they might not want anything from that store at that time. Visa gift cards work though cause you can use them anywhere.

This is a tough age. Even if you are close in age to your best friend and know exactly what he likes. I would give him a gift card to his favorite store and let him choose his own gift.
