Pet lovers...Do your pets get along with each other?

I have cats and a dog. They seem to all be good friends with each other despite the difference in species.
I've heard a lot of people claim that cats and dogs don't mix well but I have to disagree.
My cat chases the dog around and they wrestle each other but it's very friendly and playful...never mean or violent. They sit next to each other and sleep together sometimes. The cat even shares a water dish with the dog. I don't have a small dog either...he is a husky mix and weighs around 40 pounds.
If you own more than one pet, do they get along with each other?
Are they friends or enemies?

i have 2 dogs (irish wolfhound and a fairly large mutt), 4 cats, and 2 house rabbits. they all pretty much ignore each other between species. the cats are all friends, the rabbits are buddies, and the dogs like to hang out together, but besides that it seems to be a live and let live situation in my house.
this is a little odd considering that irish wolfhounds are sight hounds, and therefore instinctually more prone to chase and kill small, scurrying animal, but mine is the epitiome of the term "gentle giant". if he contacts a rabbit or kitty, he wants to wash it, not eat it. but the bunnies and kitties just run away and he never tries to chase them.

I have always had cats and dogs together. The younger they are when they meet the easier it is for them to coexist together. Some times the worse cases are two cats or two dogs, especially if they are grown when they meet, but with time and good will
they can live together even if they aren't best buddies.

This is a really good discussion because I am sure that almost everyone is a pet lover and they have different types of pets,I am sure there are people who like dogs, and not cats, and then there are people who probably like cats but not dogs, and then there are probably people who like both dogs and cats, and have both of them in their homes, and then I am sure there are people who have dogs and cats who get along with each other well, while others might have dogs and cats who are always fighting so they have to be separated so they do not harm each other,my family has always been a dog and cat family, and we have always had Chihuahuas and tabby cats and they have always gotten along perfectly, and right now we have two Chihuahuas and one old tabby cat that get along fine, even though the tabby does not like other cats or new animals, and we have a Tom cat that lives on the back porch and if she sees him she will hiss at him, even though he is really friendly, and he came with the house when we moved in about nine years ago,and he has survived outside,I guess you could say he is our guard cat,and he guards our house from intruders, have a great day, good luck with your life, and all of your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting.

That sucks that you had to return two guinea pigs because they did not get along with your first one,and I am sure that had to be quite frustrating, but I am happy that you finally found one that got along with your guinea pig and I am sure it is happier having a friend, have a great day, good luck with your life, and all of your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting.

I have a puppy and it is now a full grown up husky too.It is slightly bigger than yours and its name is poppy.Poppy came to me when i was 5 years old as a gift from my grand uncle and i have been taking good care of it until today.Never a time I leave it alone except I am away for school and classes and work. Most of the time i would hug it to sleep and it is so close to me that it would not eat if i am not around.Hence leaving for long holidays sure is a little hard here...

I tend to have the same trouble with my dog. He won't eat if I'm not home. Huskies are usually a one person kind of dog. I take my dog everywhere with me too...aside from work and school. He's great company. Very loyal, intelligent, and protective dog...and cuddly too! :)

They do get along with each other, I have a cat and a dog, but it gets a little rough at times. The dog will chase the cat but will run away if the cat chases him. Once I saw the cat chase the dog and bite him on the butt. It was pretty funny really. I think the dog defintely deserved it. He is a bit much at times.

We have six rabbits and one cat. The rabbits live in 3 different cages and sometimes we take them out of the cages and let them run around on the kitchen floor (together) They usually get along quite well, but they do fight every once in a while, so we always keep an eye on them.
When we got the cat, we had already had the rabbits for about a year and we were kind of nervous how the cat would react when she saw the rabbits, but they seem to get along okay. Sometimes the cat stands in front of the cages and she watches the rabbits inside the cages, but she never tries to attack them and she never tries to jump on the cages. When we are not there we always close the door to keep the cat and the rabbits seperated just in case.

wow, it's great that your pets get along so well. my family has a 6 year old dog, and two cats, one is 15 and the other will be 10. the 15 year old cat attacks the poor dog - swatting her and intimidating her, she (the dog) avoids him. my younger cat ignores both of them. all we can do with our older cat is just scold him when he misbehaves. poor dog. :-(

I have 7 cats all Russian Blue and a female German Shepard.
We live in a large house so they share a lot of space.
They don't have a problem getting along with each other.
Also the youngest of the cats -Luxor,8 months old male had no problem in getting along with the dog.
The female cats ,3 at number, don't pay much attention to the dog.
They never fight.
It is true that they grew up together and got the same amount of attention and maybe that is the reason they get along with one another.

I have 2 dogs and a cat. The dog's relationship is indifferent to the cat. They don't fight her, but they certainly don't try to be friends! When they got too close to the cat, she hit them with her paw (declawed of course). The dogs try to stay clear of her now, despite the cat being 1/4 the size of the big dog.

I have four dogs and they get along fine. There were some "testy" times when each new dog joined the family, but that is to be expected. They just needed time to get use to each other. I agree with what you said about cats and dogs. My sister and her husband and my youngest niece and her husband have two dogs and a number of cats and they have never expressed any difficulty. I think most of the time, the difficulties experienced in such situations are brought on by the owners. Animals can sense the changes in human "energy" that are caused by stress and changes in emotion, and they react accordingly.

omg i have 2 dogs and 1 cat...the little dog chases the cat and tries to attack her all the time. Then the 2 dogs ALWAYS fight over food. They get so bad that they clamp on to each others necks and wont let go until we pry them apart. i know its not good but we try to keep them from fighting
