Master's Degree

my husband took the liberty of contacting several different on-line schools for me, so today i have been sorting through them, talking on the phone, trying to decide which is the best fit. i'm not upset that my husband did this. he knows i want to continue my education.
the crappy thing is that as i already have a B.S. the only financial aid available is student loans. i don't even know if i can get any more of those. if not, there is no way i can continue. i was so hoping that there was so other sort of aid for people who want graduate degrees, and was even willing to settle for a 2nd B.S. however, it seems that once on has the first B.S. student loans are the way it gets paid for. oh well, i will just pile them on top of the student loans i already have, presuming i can actually get them.
i really want my masters in criminal justice, with a focus on teens. i have done social services work with teenagers for many years, i'm good at it, and i really like it. i hope to be a juvenile probation officer.
i'm not worried about the classes. i completed my B.S. on-line and loved doing it that way. i like the freedom it offers, i like the fact that i don't have to be in class at a certain time. i know it would not be for everyone, but i am so self-motivated that it's perfect for me.
*sigh* if only it didn't cost so much to better oneself.

Where are you from? What country? I'm from the Philippines and my best friend was thinking about the same thing. Although she doesn't really NEED the financial help, she wouldn't mind having one if it's available.
She said that Australia offers scholarships for Masteral's Degree. The cost is simple: after you graduate, you have to head a joint project between your community and Australian government. That's it! Seems almost too good to be true but it's actually a serious offer and you can look it up online.
You may not be able to leave for school but maybe something similar is available in your place? There are companies that offer to send you to school but you'll have to sign a two-three year bond with them.
Thanks for the response on my discussion :)

i live in the united states, and there isn't much help to get a master's degree, at least not that i qualify for.
if i could find a job, there are some companies and organizations that do help pay for education, but i am unemployed at the moment. i would LOVE to go to work for a company that would help me pay for my education.
i'm still looking for alternate funding, but it appears that loans are about it for me.

Ahhhh - we're in the same boat.
And yes, unfortunately there are not student grants for master's degree- I don't know why that is. There are fellowships though. I'm not too sure what they are, but definitely something to look into.
I want a master's degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on water resources, wastewater, hydraulics, and hydrology. I wouldn't be able to do it online - though I'd look into distance learning, see what's offered.
I also looked into maybe joining the USNAVY Reserve-however, they can't accept me coz I have history of asthma!! GAH!
I have to look into the US Army or maybe the Air Force.
Good luck!
I hope money won't be the reason that would keep us from our big dreams!!

best of luck to you! i hope you figure out how to get your engineering degree.
i know i am too old to join the military, plus i have some health issues that would keep me out, or i would consider it just for the benefits.
