thinking about starting a blog.

So I have this idea, just came up right now actually. I started writing things down in my notebook but I wanted some opinions. Ok, here goes.
My family and I are Brazilian. I speak fluent English, and my grandmother (who is disabled, and stays home all day) speaks fluent Portuguese. My idea was to create a blog teaching a mixture of both English and Portuguese. I would get my grandmothers help, since she doesn't work and doesn't do much at home, maybe it'd be a way for her to occupy herself during the day. I was also going to put something like Adsense on the site to bring in some money.
But my question to all you out there: how well do you think a language blog would end up doing? I myself am very interested in languages, and know many people from Brazil who are interested in learning English. And I'm sure there are other people out there in different countries trying to learn English, and even Portuguese. What do you think?

I think this is a good idea. The blog you'll be putting up will be unique at the same time interesting. You already know that your blog will have many visitors because there are people interested in learning languages, and what better avenue than in the Internet. Go ahead and try it, and also remember to promote your blog so it reaches more visitors. Good luck!

I think its a great idea. You are a caring person to consider your grandmother, and do something to help fill her empty days. I am sure that she would be happy at the opportunity to help out.

Thanks a bunch. I told her about the idea last night and she seemed interested. She's been wanting to teach some kind of English, but it's much harder to start doing it here in the USA than in Brazil. Or, so she thought until I told her about this idea! :)

i am just starting to learn about what makes a successful blog but i think you have a good idea. it would be helpful for those who are trying to learn english and many people come on mylot for the same reason. singling out portuguese speaking people is a great idea and it can be a community kind of blog where those of a like culture can come and support each other and share their experiences and stuff, getting your grandmother involved is great for her and you. good luck and i would do it.

Exactly. And, I won't only limit my blog to English. I know many people like myself who are trying to learn Portuguese too! So, there's two languages in one blog. Killing two birds with one stone, kinda, :). Thanks for the comment, these kind of responses are really encouraging me and making me fee like I really hit the jackpot with this idea!

I support that you start a blog .
I want to start a blog , too . I was told that I start a blog , so that I can earn some money ? Is it true .
The most importance is that start a blog can share the emotion I have everyday and tell others what intersting I suffered on that day .
I can make friends and improve my English , too .
If I can earn money from blog , that is perfect !

Blogs do appear to be fun
I am thinking about starting a blog with my buddy
I do think that you need to really get lucky to make money with a blog tho...
I think that you got a pretty good shot because I have never ever came across a language blog before...
Most blogs are like Journals of what people are thinking and how they see all the events that are happening around them...Not many, if any are about teaching language...So it might be a good thing to get into!
:D
How much money do you get for making a post on this website anyway? I wanna get money for my Paypal! :D

This is a great idea to start a blog to teach about the languages. Go ahead since you are familiar in the niche and able to write unique quality content.

It sounds interesting; at least you have a unique idea. I think having a blog & having it become popular is EXTREMELY hard & takes a lot of experience. Why not start it, and try it out? The only way you'll find out if it's successful is if you try it & see what happens.

Thinking about starting a blog........
Hey Jeneias,
I've added you as a friend to my friend's list. I realize that what I"m getting ready to ask you about has nothing to do with your blog but I was just wondering if you've ever lived in brazil or if your grandmother has? If so can you tell me something about how you all dealt with those big annacondas that are over in brazil. I really can't imagine trying to live around something that big. I have enough trouble just dealing with the smaller snakes here in the US......well write me back if you don't mind and tell me all about it. It might be a nice topic for a blog also. Just telling a few things about life in Brazil......Probably your grandmother would know a lot more........ Anyhow take care and I look forward to hearing from you.........E.

Hey Jeneias, it sounds like a really good idea. My native language is English and I would love to learn a second language. It would be really beneficial for me to learn spanish as a second language. If I could find a blog that was teaching Spanish I would welcome it with open arms....With your second language being Portuguese and having your grandmother there to help you. I'm sure it would be a very delightful experience for her as well as your reader. Most elderly people are excited about passing on their traditions, customs and language down to their offspring. It should be a great experience for everyone concerned. Good luck and best wishes! In English we like to say "You go girl:)"!
