How to make us more competitive faced with economics crisis

Now, I worked in a company. Obviously, it is influenced a lot by the economics crisis started from last year. We don't get any new project from then on. Currently I don't have new stuff to work on. But what should I study now? Because our company want to save the resource cost, and no project is coming now. So what is the next? I can imagine! And do I need to wait until things get well after about 1 or 2 years? Or do I need to study something and begin to find a new job? Can you please provide some suggestions on this, many thanks.
