Twelve stops and home - Should People Be Allowed To Listen To Music On The Bus?

I have to admit that when I am travelling home on a bus I do like to listen to music using my mp3 player. I am aware of other people on the bus though so always make sure that I don't play my music loud enough for others to hear. However, I noticed a lot of people who do listen to music on the bus aren't this considerate.
While many people do use headphones they sometimes play it so loud that you can still hear it even when you are listening to music yourself. And there are also groups of younger people who like to play music out loud on their mobile phones.
I have noticed that this irritates a lot of people. It does irritate me as well, especially as I go to the trouble of making sure my own music cannot be heard by others using the bus. But some people seem to get really angry and go up to them and tell them to turn it down, sometimes swearing. Others look really annoyed but feel too intimidated to do anything about it, especially when it is a big group of youngsters.
So I am wondering now what your views are about listening to music on buses? Does this habit irritate you altogether? Should it be banned? Or do you think it should be allowed if they keep the volume down? Maybe playing music out loud on buses doesn't bother you?
Also do you have any personal experiences on a bus where there has been a serious confrontation over music being played on the bus?

What's funny about the buses here where I live is that they don't want to hear any loud songs coming from headphones or cell phones, but on the new buses they got last year, they have radios and speakers in them, and some of the drivers turn on the radio, maybe thinking that it makes for a more pleasant environment. My question is, if you don't want to hear music coming from the headphones and mobile phones of passengers, what makes you think we want to listen to the music blaring from over the speakers in the bus? I just find it incredibly odd that this happens. :S

Wow, that is funny:)! Do they have the signs on the bus saying, your not allowed to play music loud enough for others to hear, as well? I think it is a bit hypocritical of the buses, when they are making passengers listen to music when it is not something passengers are suppose to do.
We have a driver that talks to himself and gets a bit of road rage, (a bit scary) but I haven't been on a bus that actually plays music. Maybe that is the future of buses, and your buses are just a pilot test? I hope not though:)! Thanks for your post.
