How long does it take you to clean your house?

I have a house guest coming today. It's my sister. The one I actually get long with! She's a bit of a clean freak. She's not rude about it (at least not much), but she can't help her compulsion to clean. Me? I'm what you might call "domestically challenged". I clean what I need to clean when I need to clean it. Sometimes my house is a bit messy. Part of the reason I have a problem with unexpected guests. When I entertain, I have to go into a cleaning frenzy for the 24 hours before guests arrive. I am going into that mode now. If I don't...my sister will end up doing it! lol Tempting to take advantage of that (sometimes I do) but I do want my home to be at least somewhat livable when she gets here! Do you always keep your house clean or do you just do major clean ups periodically? How much time do you spend cleaning your home? I'm off to clean my house now! See you later. Oh, I'm off to clean my house AFTER I have breakfast! ;-)

My wife and I often clean the house together and it can take several hours sometimes. This is because we are both working all day and by the time the evening come, all we want to do it eat our meal and then just crash out in front of the TV. It's surprising how messed up it can get up in such a short time sometimes! - Derek

Hi lady actually it depends on the interval between two cleanings , but usually I make a full cleaning every 3 weeks , it taks around 2 - 3 hours to finish all the dishes and to clean the kitchen , bathrooms , sleeping rooms and living room .. and usually at the end of the winter I do clean the heavy blankets before storing them up .. it needs 5 -6 hours by itself . have a nice day miamilady

I am sort of a clean freak. I clean up the stove after I finish cooking and wash the dishes. The major stuff gets clean weekly. If I had an unexpected visitor, it will take me about 30 mins to straighten up.

I try to do major cleaning like scrubbing the floors and bathtub and sinks and stuff like that once a week but there are times that I let it go for like two weeks. I straighten up and vacume like every other day because I have a dog and a cat in the house so the vacuming and dusting has to be done almost every other day or there is pet hair everywhere and it bothers me. The house I live in right now has always taken me at least four hours to clean if I do the major stuff like scrubbing floors and everything like that. I will be moving to an apartment in a few weeks so it will take me a lot less time and I will be the only one I have to clean up after so hopefully I will keep it clean all the time. I know it will be a lot simpler than the house. I'm a little bit like you are when it comes to being "domestically challenged." When I was growing up my mom was a total clean freak, she still is. Whenever anybody would come over she would always say something like, "Oh, the house is such a mess." People would look around and then look at me like she was a little crazy. All my friends used to joke around that walking into my mom's house was like walking into a hospital, only the house would put the hospital to shame, LOL. Maybe I don't get so crazy over the top about the cleaning thing because my mom was. Don't get me wrong, my house isn't dirty, it's just what I like to call lived in and comfortable. I see my mom's eyes pass over everything when she walks in here and it always makes me uncomfortable even if I have just done a major cleaning. It feels like going through an inspection when I was in the military, LOL!

I would get along great with your sister because I too am a clean freak. I have been told I have OCD when it comes to cleaning. I like a clean house I can't help it. Everything in its place. It would probably take me about 2 hours to clean my house completely. Did I tell you I enjoy cleaning! LOL LOL LOL

I clean as I go, I hate a messy house. so we clean our rooms when we get up in the morning, beds made clothes picked up etc. we also clean the kitchen as soon a we eat. As far as a deep clean we have a cleaning service that comes once a week and does that for me. Cleans the floors, bathrooms (yuck) etvc.

I had a cleaning lady for about 6 months. Right before I decided to be a stay at home mom. I LOVED it! lol Then I decided to stay home with my kids and we had to let the cleaning lady go. Couldn't afford her anymore :-( Thanks for your reply.

that's a good question. it depends on what kind of cleaning i am trying to get done. most of the time i am doing a spot check cleaning. like every day the kitchen has to be cleaned everyday, keep the dishes clean and the floors swept. try and keep the bathroom clean, although that can be hard when you have a 7 people in a three bedroom apartment. i am not a neat freak but i do like things in their place. i guess it would take me about two hours to really do a deep cleaning, and half hour to do a spot check cleaning

When I was younger (and single!) I had a maid. She would 'clean' the house... the whole house but every week (she came once a week) she would 'superclean' one room of the house (washing the walls, scrubbing the toilets, etc...). What that allowed was for the house to stay clean and for no room to get so dirty that it took forever to keep it nice and clean. I thought that was a great idea. Thanks Zelo

Before I'm kinda O.C. when it comes to cleaning but when now I've learned not to clean too much.just the right amount of cleaning. but I think it took me 2days to clean the whole house...one day if it's not a general cleaning. Anyways...Happy cleaning!

Hi miamilady...If your sister feels a need to clean, sit back and let her! After all, you didnt ask her too and she doesnt live there, you do. If it were a friend, I would be offended. I figure people come to visit me and not my house. We are all different and have different standards for different reasons. My hubby and I clean things as we go so nothing is ever messy. We have regular cleaning that we do daily. Other things I just do as I feel they need to be done. I dont beleive in wearing off paint, to clean something that isnt dirty.

I hire a house helper and just give her enough compensation so she could clean the house for me. She does all the cloth washing and ironing and general cleaning. I can't do all things all by myself, my husband's house is huge and it would really kill me to do all the cleaning all by myself. I reserve only one room and that's the master's bedroom. I keep it organized so everytime I leave its all clean and orderly. My husband is such a messy guy on the other hand. He can't even manage to put his clothes properly on the laundry basket which usually pisses me off. I hate to see his shoes all over the house and most specially I keep the sinks all white and tidy everytime I use it. Whenever he cooks dinner all the dishes and the leftovers are in the sink, that makes me crazy! If I start after breakfast, I can have it done at 9:00am... with the helper, general cleaning usually lasts until 2pm. I'm glad though that my husband can afford it or we'll argue alot about keeping the house clean...lol

I think I'm a little in between you and your sister. I can only let my place get to a certain level of messy, then I go on a cleaning spree (whether or not anyone is coming over). My cat is really bad about tracking dirt into the house, so I end up vaccuuming at least once a week, if not more. Speaking of which, my floor is looking kinda icky...

Usually I clean my house once a week. My wife usually is the key contributor for it. Women always can't bear the house dirty but man against. Sometimes I was asked for clean the house with my wife, she said if she clean the house alone that she would got angry with me.

I'm a fan of keeping the house clean all the time. Otherwise I know that I'll need a whole day to clean up and I will procrastinate! At the moment I'm living at my parents' house and it is for sale. We have people coming through for inspections a few times a week so we really have to make sure the house is spotless all the time. Soto answer your question, at the moment it takes my mum, dad and me about half an hour to do a clean up before inspections. Sweeping, mopping, picking up dog poop, dishes in the washer, making beds and tidying of random junk. I find cleaning fun ..sometimes.

We live in a small house but the clutters is all over and I guess it will take a day to clean up all the mess. Cleaning is fun but it is very tiring too. I have to clean the house everyday and before the night falls it is messy again. I want to have a clean house but the people around me are mess loving people. I have no choice but to clean. It takes forever.

We clean our house 1 - 2 hours, and almost everyday, to prevent dirty place and bacteria, i use to clean my bed and place things on its designated area, I use to map the floor whether if it is wet or dry to prevent the mud mess around, after we eat i wash the dishes to prevent it to the insect and salmonela, I wash the basin and the comfort room and maintain to a clean area as we use it or even at night when we have the water on hose wash it with water along the hose and wipe it with a sponge, and wipe also wall and thing, and sometimes we spray our house with insecticides if no people around,if ever when we have visitors we are ready.
